STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
(CE)
Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 60
Answer ALL questions in PART-A.
Answer any ONE question from each unit in PART-B.
PART-A
5X2=10M
a) What is meant by a perfect frame? 2M CO-1 BL-1
b) Define slope and deflection of a beam. 2M CO-2 BL-1
c) Assess the degree of indeterminacy for a) propped cantilever b) fixed beam. 2M CO-3 BL-2
d) What is a continuous beam? 2M CO-3 BL-1
e) Draw influence lines for support reactions in a simply supported beam. 2M CO-4 BL-2
PART-B

5X10=50M
UNIT-1
1. Determine the force in the members of the truss shown in fig.1 10M CO-1 BL-3

Fig.1
OR
2. List the force methods and explain in detail about any methods with an 10M CO-1 BL-2
example.
UNIT-II
3. Compute the midspan deflection for a simply supported beam loaded as shown 10M CO-2 BL-3
in fig.2. Take EI constant.

OR
4. State and prove the “Moment area method”. 10M CO-2 BL-3
UNIT-III
5. A propped cantilever of span of 6 m having the prop at the end is subjected to 10M CO-3 BL-3
two concentrated loads of 24 kN and 48 kN at one third point and two third
point respectively from left fixed end support. Draw shear force and bending
moment diagram.
OR
6. A fixed beam of length 6 m carries a couple of 500 N-m, clockwise at its center. 10M CO-3 BL-3

7. Analyse the continuous beam ABCD, is simply supported at A, B, C and D, 10M CO-3 BL-4
AB= BC = CD = 5 m. Span AB carries a load of 30 kN at 2.5 m from A. Span
BC carries an UDL of 20 kN/m. Span CD carries a load of 40kN at 2 m from C.
Use Theorem of three moments. Draw SFD and BMD.
OR
8. Analyse the continuous beam ABC by three moment equation, fixed at end A 10M CO-3 BL-4
and simply supported at supports B and C. Span AB of length 10 m carries a
point load of 15 kN at 5m from the support B. Span BC of length 10 m carries
UDL of 20 kN/m throughout. Draw SFD and BMD.

UNIT-V

9. A simply supported beam has a span of 20m, is subjected to a UDL of 8kN/m 10M CO-4 BL-3
(longer than the span) traveling from left to right.
i) Draw the ILD for shear force and bending moment at a section 5m from
left end.
ii) Use these diagrams to determine the maximum shear force and bending
moment at this section.
OR
10. A system of four loads 80, 160, 160 and 120 kN crosses a simply supported 10M CO-4 BL-4
beam of span 25m with the 120 kN load leading. The loads are equally spaced
at 1m. Determine the values of the following using influence lines.
i)Absolute Maximum bending moment and shear force
ii) Maximum bending moment at 10m from the left support.
