RATIONALE
The Work Immersion Program is one of the curriculum required for graduation of
Grade 12 senior high students. A SHS student must accomplish work immersion in a
business organization or resilient with job requirements relevant to their specialization.
Work immersion engages and exposes students with the work environment relevant to
their field of attentiveness. Specifically, students may utilize facilities, services, and
expertise in areas to enhance their work experience and job skills (Lee, 2016).
The Philippine Educational System was developed to provide students with the
best qualities possible education. They switched from the basic version of the
curriculum to the K-12 curriculum was implemented. The Department of Education
(DepEd) has issued On July 5, 2017, instructions were issued for carrying out Work
Immersion Program for the Senior High School curriculum. It is composed of ( _ ) hours
of practical training or work simulation that students in Grades 11 and 12 will complete
under the supervision of the school's administration and the designated staff members
of the partner institutions.
The Department of Education (DepEd) requires academic institutions that offer
Senior High School (SHS) education to conduct work immersion programs in order to
complement its K–12 program. Through work immersion, students can practice work in
real-world environments, get experience in the workplace, and apply their
competencies. The publication of DepEd Order No. 30, s. 2017, further strengthens this.
The program's goal is to help students enhance their decision making and work skills
and give them the insights they need to choose between post-secondary vocational
training and employment institutions.
To hone the skills of senior high school students gained after adding two years to
basic education through the K-12 program curriculum, the Department of Education
(DepEd) has established guidelines for the conduct of work immersion activities for SHS
students across the country. According to DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, work
immersion is an essential component of the senior high school curriculum. It can be
carried out in a variety of ways, depending on the learners' objectives and needs. In
addition, the guidelines state that work immersion aims to help learners enhanced their
career skills and personal growth, as well as empower them to make decisions about
post-secondary education or employment based on the four alternative paths
envisioned for SHS graduates (Mendoza, 2018).
This will expose students to the actual workplace setting while also enhancing their
competencies currently offered by the school. Work Immersion will help students in
choosing the college courses they intend to attend. Work Immersion provides a
opportunity for students can enhance professionally by replicating actual employment.
In Babag Senior High School Stand-Alone, all Grade 12 students will be deployed
in different agencies/establishments/institutions for 80 hours. Prior to their deployment,
they are to accomplish all pre-immersion requirements such Orientation Program,
Medical certificate, Barangay Clearance, Parent's Consent, Survey/Questionnaire on
the Preparedness Level, interview simulation, etc. Upon accomplishing the
requirements, they are deployed by their respective supervising teachers to their
immersion sites. During work immersion period, supervising teachers do the monitoring
of their students in the different immersion sites. Despite the preparation that the school
conducts for the students, there are some students who do not excel in their
performance. This will affect their performance ratings by their superior/supervisor.
Hence, the researchers will embark on this study to determine the performance level of
work immersion students.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to assess the level of preparedness for work immersion among
the Grade-12 TVL-Caregiving students at Babag National-Senior High School in the
School Year 2024-2025.
Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:
1. What is the level of preparedness for work immersion among Grade-12 TVL-
Caregiving students?
2. Is the Grade-12 TVL-Caregiving students are prepared to meet the demands
and challenges of employment or other life experiences?
3. What recommendation can be made to enhance the preparedness of Grade-
12 TVL-Caregiving students for work immersion?
SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
This study explained and analyzed senior high school students preparedness for
work immersion in this K-12 curriculum. The following participants will benefit from the
results of this research.
Principal
This study will be beneficial the principal by facilitating them in identifying the
pro's and cons of a predefined curriculum. To make the curriculum more responsive for
preparing students for their future professions, it will also help them to identify which
specific areas they should focus on and improved.
Teachers
This study will be beneficial to the teachers, it will provide an overview of the
Preparedness Level of SHS Students for their upcoming Working Immersion.
Specifically, for the Grade 12 TVL-Caregiving strand in Work Immersion. With this
information, this study hopes to guide the teacher's to develop new effective strategies
for preparing the students for work their work immersion. Students: This study will be
beneficial to the Grade 12 TVL-Caregiving students, this will guide them to be prepared
for their work place which will have a major impact to their academic performances and
let them be aware of the possible instances during their working immersion.
Future Researchers
This study can be used as their reference to improve their future research studies
and gain more information that relate to preparedness level of the Grade 12 TVL-
Caregiving students for Work Immersion, as it serves to assist them in alternative
possible.
Scope and Delimitation
This study is delimited to the Preparedness level for Work Immersion among
the Grade 12 TVL-Caregiving Senior High Students. It will be conducted in Babag
National-Senior High School during the School Year 2024-2025. This study will be
delimited to thirty-nine senior high students in Caregiving strand. Furthermore, the
profile of the respondents covers their sex and age.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
This chapter presents the review of relevant literature and studies taken from
articles, journals, theses and dissertation published online which are presented in
thematic approach. It focuses on work immersion.
Local Literature
The Secretary of Education (DepEd), Br. Armin Luistro stated, they wish to
foster students the value of selecting a career path that reflects their interests, the
resources at their availability, and the job prospects that await them. The student's field
of specialization is exposed through work immersion, he continued, that the students
become familiar with the workplace. The students are able to: Acquire relevant and
useful industrial skills under the supervision of industry professionals and workers; (i)
understand the significance and application of the principles and theories taught in
school; (ii) improve their technical knowledge and skills; and (iv) prepare them to meet
the demands and challenges of employment or other life experiences.
A person who gets along well with others can grow. It improves and develops
new skills. Immersions allows students to build new skill sets while enhancing their
existing abilities. Students learn about themselves through immersion, which also
benefits their jobs. Students grow become strong teammates. A person who gets along
well with others may flourish. Early awareness of this enables students to improve their
communication skills and contribute to the team's success in projects. Students gain
financial literacy from an early age. Students learn to think like adults, manage their
finances responsibly, and develop other correlated abilities by engaging with the day-to-
day activities of a real-world workplace (Luistro, 2021). Immersion teaches students
how to attain their goals by engaging with experienced and innovative people. These
individuals may inspire students to explore their full potential.
