The Sheet Guide

Hey! It's me, Dracula! And this tab is where I explain everything there is to know about the sheet!
If you have questions about the sheet, chances are they're already answered here!
You might notice how the "Using the Sheet" section seems to be solely a header. In reality, it's collapsed. Look to the left! See those squares with + and -? Click or tap them and you can show and hide their contents! This feature is used for
Transformations, Signature Techniques, the Spellbook, additional rows for Custom Buffs and Debuffs, additional Apparel, et cetera cetera. Always be on the lookout in case you can't find something!

I know that this tab is massive and pretty daunting, but don't worry. If you're the kind to play a game without a tutorial, you can always come back here, use Ctrl+F (or Find and Replace on mobile, accessed tapping on the ⋮ at the top right) to
search for what you're looking for and get the answer you seek!

You're welcome to ask about the sheet on our Discord if you still can't find what you're looking for on this tab, but please check first. Thank you!

Have fun with DBU!

Using the Sheet

Making a Copy
First things first, if you want to actually use this sheet for your character, you can't use the one you were linked to on the website or Discord. This is the main copy everyone takes from. To use it for yourself, you should make a copy for your own
use. To do this on desktop, go to the top left of the screen and click on File > Make a copy. On mobile, you'll need to exit the sheet itself in the Google Drive app, tap the ⋮ icon and tap on Make a copy.

It's vitally important that you always copy your new character sheets from the main character sheet that's available on the site. If you don't, you'll miss out on bugfixes and tweaks, and if you ask for help on a sheet that's a copy of a months-old
copy of the original I'll be mildly peeved.
Please don't make me mildly peeved :(

Not Breaking Things

Simply put, the sheet has a gazillion and one formulas that make it work. Many cells are meant for user input, but even more aren't supposed to be touched. There are two simple rules to know if you're allowed to edit the contents of a cell:
-The cell's background is the same as this cell right here. With the exception of the Scouter tab, the only cells where you're supposed to write have the same background as this one.
-The cell, obviously, does not contain a formula. A formula is usually pretty easy to spot, something scary starting with =, but it can only be seen if you focus on it - either you click it on desktop and look at the "fx" box at the top of your screen, or
you tap it on mobile and look at the "fx" box at the bottom of your screen. There are very few exceptions where you're allowed to overwrite formulas without breaking things, and I'll call them out when we go over them.

Hiding and Revealing

Here's something you'll need once you're done reading this page. See those down-facing chevrons (solid, triangular "arrows") next to the tab names at the bottom of your screen? If you click/tap those, or if you right-click the tab on desktop (or
hold on mobile), you can get a menu with several choices. One of these choices is Hide sheet. This doesn't actually hide the whole sheet, it's just that Google is bad at naming things - if you select it, it'll hide the tab in question, which will be
useful both for this tab and any others you might not use (for example you're free to just hide the Minion tab if your character doesn't use Minions). If you need to reveal a hidden tab, the steps to do so vary between desktop and mobile.
On desktop: look at the top of your screen, click on View, then hover over Hidden sheets, and just click on whatever tab you want to reveal.
On mobile: look at the bottom left of your screen, tap on the icon that's four horizontal lines, and you will just see a list of all the tabs. The hidden ones are written in italics, just tap one and you'll both reveal it and enter it.

Setting the Theme

The old sheet color system has been removed, and replaced with a customizable theme system using Google Sheets' Custom Themes. To set your Custom Theme:
On desktop: look at the top of your screen, roughly at the center, click on the Fill color button (the one with a bucket being emptied), and then click on the pencil to top right. This will open up the Custom Theme to the right of the screen.
On mobile: well, I've got bad news. As we only found out very recently as of the writing of this introduction, it looks like Sheets Custom Themes can't be edited on mobile. You'll want to edit it on desktop, or ask a computer-owning friend to do it
for you. In that case, you'll need to share the sheet with them and give them editing privileges: you can do so by tapping on the little "user+" icon at the top (the share icon), then either add their e-mail address and give them editing privileges or
go to the bottom, where it says Manage access, tap on the "people" icon, change "Restricted" to "Anyone with the link" and change "Viewer" to "Editor". Then tap the link icon at the top right to copy the link into your clipboard, and paste it to your
friend.
Once you've opened your Custom Theme, you're faced with the following colors to customize:
-Text: the text color for headers Big Header
-Chart Background: the text color for labels
-Accent 1: the background color for big headers Medium Header
-Accent 2: the background color for medium headers
-Accent 3: the background color for small headers Small Header
-Accent 4: the background color for labels, placed horizontally next to what they refer to Label Player Input Something Auto Total
-Accent 5: the background color for total cells
Label Player Input Something Auto Total
-Accent 6: the background color for the most common data cells - like this one!
-Hyperlink: ignore this

Due to the limited number of colors in the theme, the text color for total and common data cells must stay black. Because of this, please keep their background colors light,
so you can read them! These conventions are not always followed, but generally the headers go in order of brightness.

Adding More
Even though the sheet tries to be extremely generous with the amount of spaces it offers, sometimes you might still need even more space than it offers you. Whether you want to add more Custom Buffs, Racial Traits, Transformations,
Signature Techniques, Auras, Unique Abilities, Apparel, Weapons, Basic Items, Levels, Extra Perks, Advanced Images or whatever else (though I just listed the only ones that, off the top of my head, are safe to expand), the order of operations to
follow is always the same, though they vary between desktop and mobile.

On desktop: go to the very last block of whatever you want to copy, as far near the bottom as you can. Make sure that all collapsed rows (+ characters to the left) are expanded (- characters in their place). Look to the left still, where several
numbers are written in succession: those are the row numbers. Click the one at the top of whatever block you want to repeat, then hold Shift and click the one at the bottom: you've now selected all the rows that make up the block you want to
repeat (note: it is vital that you select the whole rows rather than just drag across the cells you can see, because otherwise you might miss several invisible cells you'd only get by selecting the whole rows). Then right click on any of your
selected row numbers and click on Insert [number] rows above (note: it is vital that you insert the rows above rather than below. This is because Sheets looks at the space between the first block and the last one that's already there, so if you put
anything below that it won't see it). Now you'll want to re-select the rows the last block is on just like last time, but this time hit Ctrl+C, then click on the top row number of the rows you just inserted and hit Ctrl+V. Voilà! (note: the reason you
don't Ctrl+C before inserting the new rows is because sometimes this mucks up the pasting process, so doing it separately is your safest bet. However, feel free to insert that number of rows multiple times and only then Ctrl+C the block and
then Ctrl+V it multiple times, if you want to add several new blocks).

On mobile: go to the very last block of whatever you want to copy, as far near the bottom as you can. Make sure that all collapsed rows (+ characters to the left) are expanded (- characters in their place). Look to the left still, where several
numbers are written in succession: those are the row numbers. Tap the one at the top of whatever block you want to repeat, then tap the icon at the bottom right of your screen (the one with a + above what's meant to represent rows), and keep
tapping it until you've added the same amount of rows as the block you want to paste takes up (note: it is vital that you insert the rows above rather than below. This is because Sheets looks at the space between the first block and the last one
that's already there, so if you put anything below that it won't see it). Then tap on the row at the top of that block again to re-select it, drag the blue dot so that you select all the rows that make up the block you want to repeat (note: it is vital that
you select the whole rows rather than just drag across the cells you can see, because otherwise you might miss several invisible cells you'd only get by selecting the whole rows). Then, hold on the selected rows and tap Copy. Then tap the row
number at the top of the rows you just inserted, hold and tap Paste. Voilà! (note: the reason you don't Copy before inserting the new rows is because sometimes this mucks up the pasting process, so doing it separately is your safest bet.
However, feel free to insert that number of rows multiple times and only then Copy the block and then Paste it multiple times, if you want to add several new blocks)

Everything Else
Each tab has extra information that explains everything you need to know about it! Just expand the rows collapsed under their header (like the beginning of this guide explained) by clicking on the + boxes at the top left!
