COST ENGINEER CHEAT SHEET

1. CONCRETING

- Mix Ratios (Cement:Sand:Gravel)

- Class A -> 1:2:4 (3500 psi)

- Class B -> 1:2.5:5 (3000 psi)

- Class C -> 1:3:6 (2500 psi)

- Cement Bags per 1m³ Concrete (40kg bags)

- Class A -> ~6-7 bags

- Class B -> ~5.5-6 bags

- Class C -> ~5 bags

- Volume Formula

Volume = Length x Width x Thickness

- Concrete Density

- Wet concrete = 2400 kg/m³

- Cement density = 1440 kg/m³

- Slump Test -> checks workability

- Curing Time -> min 7 days, full strength at 28 days

2. SITE BASICS

- Site Preparation Steps:

1. Clearing -> debris, trees

2. Excavation -> for footing, foundation

3. Backfilling -> compacting soil after foundation

4. Compaction -> improves bearing capacity

- Safety Reminders

- PPE -> helmet, vest, boots, gloves

- Excavation slope (benching/shoring to avoid collapse)

3. MEASUREMENTS & FORMULAS

- Area:

A_rectangle = L x W

A_triangle = (1/2) x base x height

A_circle = pi r^2

- Perimeter:

P_rectangle = 2(L + W)

C_circle = 2pi r

- Volume (Slab, Footing):

V=LxWxH

- Paint/Coating Estimation:

Liters = Total Area / Coverage per liter

- Concrete Weight:

W = V x density

4. QUICK REFERENCE

- 1 cubic meter (m³) concrete ~ 2400 kg

- 1 bag cement (40kg) ~ 0.028 m³ cement content

- 1 foot = 0.3048 m; 1 inch = 0.0254 m

- Rebar overlap = ~40 x diameter (common rule)

TIPS:

- Watch for unit conversions

- Write given data first

- Estimate + double-check your volume/area answers
