ICT 9-grade 3-JTS Marking Scheme

1. Explain the differences between JPG and PSD file formats. [2]

Two from:
 JPG is lossy compressed, while PSD is usually uncompressed.
 JPG is a flat image format, while PSD supports layers.
 JPG does not support transparency, while PSD can include transparent layers.
 JPG is not editable, while PSD is editable and can be reopened in Adobe Photoshop.
 JPG files are smaller in size than PSD files.
 JPG is widely supported, while PSD requires specific software.

2. Identify the image editing techniques described in the following statements. [4]

a) Crop: removing unwanted parts of an image.

b) Resize: making an image larger or smaller.

c) Rotate: turning an image a number of degrees clockwise or anti-clockwise.

d) Color correction ( color adjustment): changing the color, brightness, and contrast of an image.

3. These are several tools that are utilized in the Photoshop software. Your task is to describe the
function of each of these tools.

Tool What is does?

Marquee - Selects an object by drawing a rectangle or an ellipse around it.

Move - Used to select and move objects on the page.

Magic Wand - Selects all objects in a document with the same or similar fill
color, stroke weight, stroke color, opacity, or blending mode.

Crop Tool - Selects and cuts parts of an image.


Polygonal Lasso - Selects an object by drawing a straight-edge border
around it.

Clone Stamp - Takes a sample of an image and applies over another


image, or a part of the same image.

Gradient Tool - Applies a gradient fill to a selected part of the image or to


an entire layer.

Type Tool - Types text on a page.

Rectangle Tool - Draws a rectangle shape. Other shapes that are


hidden in this tool are: Rounded Rectangle Tool, Ellipse Tool,
Polygon Tool, Line Tool, and Custom Shape Tool.

Hand Tool - Allows you to move around within the image.

 Choose “Add to selection”
 Select the letter ‘s’

5. Steps of clone tool

 Select Clone Stamp Tool.
 Move the cursor over the source image.
 Click Alt to copy the area.
 Move the cursor to destination.
 Paint until whole source image is completed.
