NAME: ADESINA VICTOR

FELLOWSHIP: OAU CAMPUS

TITLE: KINGS AND PRIESTS IN THE EARTH (2020) Track 2*

WEEK: APRIL 7th- 13th

QUESTION 1. GIVE A DETAILED EXPLANATION OF THE TEXTS; REVELATION 1:5-6,

REVELATION 5:9-10, BASED ON YOUR UNDERSTANDING FROM THIS TRACK.

INTRODUCTION: God's idea of a king is one who rule in justice or what is right and that what
right is peace, God which is a king, in Gen 14 where it is written to bring forth, is used in the
temple it means to bring forth offering , and God bring offering to Abraham, which show that he
is the priest and he is also the king, so he rule as a priest and the offering therefore bring relief
to men and also blessing.

Revelation 1:5-6 NIV [5] and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn
from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us
from our sins by his blood, [6] and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God
and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.

Revelation 5:9-10 NIV [9] And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the
scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for
God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. [10] You have made them
to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”

There must be a understanding of the word kings and priest, because this words a contradicting
each other, but God usually use human language to communicate with men

In the book of 2 Samuel 7:11-13 NIV [11] and have done ever since the time I appointed
leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. “ ‘The Lord
declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: [12] When your days are
over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own
flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. [13] He is the one who will build a house for
my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. .... The kingdom forever that is
going to be established here is not Solomon, just as the promise to Abraham is not Isaacs but it
is going to come through Abraham, it means that God reaffirm what he said to Abraham to
David, because David is also a seed of Abraham, so David is saying this throne belong to
Yahweh which is God himself, he said sit down at my right.... In the Hebrew it deals with the
demonstration of use of authority, which means to sit till I make thy enemy a footstool means
there is a continuing work. So this king will be David son and God son, because David is a ally or
partner who carry God will to pass in the earth Psalms 2:7 NIV[7] I will proclaim the Lord’s
decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father.

The word "Thou art my son this day have I become your father " This is not Solomon, this is the
same promise to the master who is also the son, because when they talk about a king, the first
thing on their mind when they said let go and get the enemy, was to go and get the philistines,
the amalikites, but in God's kingdom it is for service, peace and sacrifice. And not for violence.
the word forever is the word /olam/ in Hebrew and it Means now and afterwards.

Melchizedech become a character to renew our mind, in the book of Genesis we can see
contrast, which are light and darkness, the first contradiction, the tree of good and evil, Cain and
Abel. In Genesis 14 we can see that they are already practicing kings of the earth, which shows
that God did not start kingdom, which means there is a mesage there when he called him king
of righteousness/ melchizedek/ king of peace, so peace is called righteousness, the word
righteousness means been in the right place or what is proper. So there we have a king of
Sodom which come from Salem and we have a king of righteousness, so there is a counter
narrative there, where God begin to counter human creation, so he is called the king of
righteousness and Salem, salem means peaceful.

Psalms 76:2 NIV [2] His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.. in Salem is also his
tabernacles and his dwelling place in zion. so zion which is in Jerusalem, it means stronghold,
which can be called the headquarters of military strength, which is what we find in David, in
2Samuel 5:7-9 NIV[7] Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion—which is the City of
David. [8] On that day David had said, “Anyone who conquers the Jebusites will have to use the
water shaft to reach those ‘lame and blind’ who are David’s enemies.” That is why they say,
“The ‘blind and lame’ will not enter the palace.” [9] David then took up residence in the fortress
and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces inward. where
king David build a stronghold for himself, which is on the earth, which his is military territory and
David said God is going to rule in his zion as king of peace, so which means king of peace is a
counter narrative to human creation. It became a counter culture. So In psalm 76:2 when he
says "His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.. in Salem is also his tabernacles and his
dwelling place in zion". What he is saying is that God war is peace, so we can find in the text of
the scripture a statement of oxymoron, where we can ask that how can we fight peacefully. We
can do this because his kingdom is of a lamb, so what we find out that melchizedek is a
contrast, the word shalem is from another Hebrew word shalom which means restitution, or
fully paid for, we need to pay attention because God's word is in human language and if we don't
understand human language we will miss what God is saying, so in their language the word
shalem means to be fully paid for, it means complete, in Genesis 33:18 NIV[18] After Jacob
came from Paddan Aram, he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped
within sight of the city. ..it means save and sound.

And we shall reign on the earth, king that will be priest, servants, and we have received the gift
of righteousness because the innocent has been killed whereby granting justice, so when we
receive that gift we reign in life by service, we reign in life through that gift, Jesus became king
by becoming a servant king.

CONCLUSION

Heb 3:1 called Jesus Christ the high priest of our profession, and we can see how he is our high
priest from these texts.

Hebrews 2:17 NIV[17] For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way,
in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he
might make atonement for the sins of the people. "merciful and peaceful high priest"

Hebrews 5:8-9 NIV [8] Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered [9]
and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him " by
offering eternal salvations through his death"

Hebrews 8:2, 12 NIV [2] and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by
the Lord, not by a mere human being. [12] For I will forgive their wickedness and will
remember their sins no more.” "by service and forgiveness of sins."

These are how he is a priest, so our priesthood is our kingdom, so when the kingdom of God is
by service, peace, reconciliation,and blessing

2. What we find in the four gospels is a story that summarizes what we refer to as the Old
Testament.

Explain the above assertion.

INTRODUCTION
There must be a understanding that the concept of old testament and new testament was not
by God but it is an idea of the translator, for orderliness In studying the Bible. God also use
human language to communicate to us, so the new testament and old testament are both word
of God.

Matthew 28:18-20 NIV[18] Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and
on earth has been given to me. [19] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to
obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of
the age.”

By using the word I am with you in verse 20 means that God wants us to know that he is the
God, I am/eugoemia/ is the Greek meaning of the word Yahweh, which means I am that I am
and I will be what I will be. And as we have know that if we are reading the four gospel, we are
reading the book of Genesis to Malachi which is referred to as the old testament, which means
old testament did not come from the scripture, but it is from the translators which is helpful but
sometimes compromise our understanding because whatever Jesus taught which is called the
gospel or the word of God is from Genesis to Malachi.

In 2 Timothy 3:15 NIV[15] and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which
are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The holy scriptures Paul
is referring to here is not Timothy nor Ephesians or Corinthians but Genesis to Malachi, which
means that Genesis to malachi is the gospel, but there is some ambiguity that Genesis to
Malachi the gospel because people tell lies there, they misrepresented God, they killed in the
name of God. But verse 16 NIV [16] All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness which says all scripture are given to men
profitable for doctrine which it ought to be explained, and he say for reprove which has to do
with to convince and he say for correction and instructions in righteousness which is spiritual
growth.

We can also see in 1 Corinthians 15:1-3 NIV [1] Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind
you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your
stand. [2] By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you.
Otherwise, you have believed in vain. [3] For what I received I passed on to you as of first
importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

When Paul says the gospel has been delivered to you and in verse 3 talk about how Jesus die,
and we can ask that did God killed Jesus, but NO, Jesus die according to the scripture, so in the
gospel we have death, people kill. It means if there is no death in gospel then there is no
ressurection, there is also human wickedness in the gospel, people also lies in the gospel, Jesus
die is conspiracy, they kill in the name of God according to the scripture, so if the gospel include
the death of Jesus in the hands of men, some of whom in the name of God, so Genesis to
Malachi is the word of God, what we find in the four gospel is just a story that summarize the
story that we refer to as old testament, so Genesis to Malachi is now summarize in single story,
which is how God suffered in the hand of man, which Is the loving God it is been put to death in
the hand of angry men, so Jesus identify himself as the Yahweh of the old testament.

CONCLUSION: So the four gospel is what summarize the book of Genesis to Malachi, which is
how Jesus die and become the source of our salvation, which means that the book of Genesis
to Malachi is also taking about Jesus.

3. Give a detailed explanation of the text; Psalm 110:1-4.

INTRODUCTION: God will make us to rule in the earth which is his dwelling place by been
subdue, service, peace, long suffering. Which means that we are going to serve as priest of this
earth by carrying out service to people, which means we are carrying out the work of the
ministry and getting people saved and bringing them out of darkness to light.

Psalms 110:1-4 NIV [1] The Lord says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your
enemies a footstool for your feet.” [2] The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion,
saying, “Rule in the midst of your enemies!” [3] Your troops will be willing on your day of battle.
Arrayed in holy splendor, your young men will come to you like dew from the morning’s womb.
[4] The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of
Melchizedek.”

Psalm 110:1 there are two words in there and one can get confused, there are two words
YAHWEH and ADONAI, The word Adonai, has to do with master from the Hebrew word /ADON/
which is in Genesis 18:3 NIV [3] He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not
pass your servant by. and verse [13] Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and
say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ . We can also see this in Psalms 2:4 NIV [4]
The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.

The word is used for noble and kings, those in authority, so when he said Yahweh said to Adonai
that shows that the mightiness of God, which is God saying to God, so that distinction is
because he is a king, by saying my God/Yahweh/ say to my master was because David knew he
was not the king, that means my God is the king.

2 Samuel 7:11-13 NIV [11] and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my
people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. “ ‘The Lord declares to you that
the Lord himself will establish a house for you: [12] When your days are over and you rest with
your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I
will establish his kingdom. [13] He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will
establish the throne of his kingdom forever. .... The kingdom forever that is going to be
established here is not Solomon, just as the promise to Abraham is not Isaacs but it is going to
come through Abraham, it means that God reaffirm what he said to Abraham to David, because
David is also a seed of Abraham, so David is saying this throne belong to Yahweh which is God
himself, and the word sit at my right, until I make your enemies footstool to your feat. In the
Hebrew deals with the demonstration of use of authority, which means to sit till I make thy
enemy a footstool means there is a continuing work.

Verse 2

God making us to rule among our enemy is accomplish by service and sacrifice, we ar to rule as
priest, where we are going to be working in the kingdom of God.

In Psalms 76:2 NIV [2] His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.. in Salem is also his
tabernacles and his dwelling place in zion. so zion which is in Jerusalem, it means stronghold,
which can be called the headquarters of military strength, which is what we find in David, but
God zion is a counter narrative of David whereby David said God is going to rule in his zion as
king of peace, so which means king of peace is a counter narrative to human creation. It
became a counter culture. So In psalm 76:2 when he says "His tent is in Salem, his dwelling
place in Zion.. in Salem is also his tabernacles and his dwelling place in zion". What he is
saying is that God war is peace.

CONCLUSION: Which means since we are in Gods kingdom which is the earth our known as our
own Zion we are going to rule among our enemies by peace, sacrifice, love, suffering, servant,
patience, service and forgiveness, which means we are going to rule as king and priest in the
kingdom.

[4] The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: “You are a priest forever, in the order of
Melchizedek.”
