Group 3 Pathfit 4 Assignment
The group 1 discussed the history of volleyball wherein they focused about how volleyball is created
and evolved each time. Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan as a less intense alternative
to basketball and was originally called "Mintonette." In 1896, Alfred Halstead renamed it "volleyball"
because it involved volleying the ball over a net. The Philippines played a major role in shaping modern
volleyball by introducing the set and spike in 1916.The sport spread globally through the YMCA, leading to
the formation of the FIVB in 1947.It made its Olympic debut in 1964, with beach volleyball added in 1996.
To play volleyball the group 2 shared about essential equipment includes a leather ball (260-280g), a
net (8 ft for men, 7 ft 4 in for women), poles, antennas for in/out calls, a referee stand, a ball pump, and
penalty cards (yellow for warnings, red for penalties).Players wear lightweight shirts and shorts for
movement, non-slip shoes, knee pads and braces for protection, ankle braces, and sports tape for support.
The game is played on a hardwood or synthetic volleyball court with proper lighting, seating areas for
spectators, and a scoreboard to track the game.
In our group, group 3, we discussed about the six basic volleyball skills including starting the play with
an underhand or overhand serve, passing which is moving the ball to a teammate using a bump or
overhead pass, digging- the defensive move to stop a spike, setting assisting a teammate’s attack,
spiking/hitting an attacking move to score, and blocking stopping an opponent’s spike. Players have
different positions, the setter is the team’s playmaker, the libero is a defensive specialist who cannot spike,
the outside hitter is the main attacker, the middle blocker is responsible for blocking and spiking, and the
opposite hitter is a strong right-side attacker. Volleyball is a dynamic and engaging sport that requires
teamwork, strategy, and skill to play effectively.
Volleyball is a fast-paced sport that relies on officials and rules to ensure fair play. The first referee
oversees the game, conducts the coin toss, and communicates with other officials, while the second
referee manages substitutions, timeouts, and assists in officiating. The scorekeeper records points, serves,

touches to return the ball, and scoring 25 points to win a set (15 in the final set), provided there’s a two-
point lead. Common violations include service errors, foot faults, attack hit faults, double hits, reaching
violations, and net violations, among others. Additionally, misconduct, illegal substitutions, and behavioral
fouls can lead to penalties. By following these rules and avoiding violations, players, coaches, and
spectators can ensure a smooth and fair volleyball match.

disease risk. A healthy cardiovascular system produces two major advantages for energy levels and work
productivity that leads to better performance in physical activities and mental operations.
Playing volleyball provides two benefits since it strengthens muscles and improves their overall
functions. The game stimulates numerous muscle groups which include legs and arms together with the
core muscles as players perform blocking and diving actions and spikes. A strong body enables individuals
to develop positive self-image and boost their confidence levels.
