SAMPLE PAPER 01 FOR PERIODIC TEST-I (2023-24)

SUBJECT: PHYSICS MAX. MARKS: 40

CLASS: IX DURATION :1½
HRS
General Instructions:
1. All questions are compulsory.
2. The question paper comprises of two Sections, A and B. You are to attempt both the sections.
3. All questions of Section-A and Section-B are to be attempted separately.
4. Question number 1 to 2 in Section-A are one mark question. These are to be answered in one word or in
one sentence.
5. Question numbers 3 in Section-A is two marks questions. These are to be answered in about 30 words.
6. Question numbers 4 to 8 in Section-A are three marks questions. These are to be answered in
about 50 words each.
7. Question numbers 9 to 11 in Section-A are five marks questions. These are to be answered in
about 70 words each.
8. Question numbers 12 to 14 in Section-B are questions based on practical skills and are two marks
questions.

SECTION – A
1. Name the force responsible for the revolution of moon around the earth.
2. If gravitational force acts between all objects, why don’t they move towards each other?

3. Mass of a planet is twice that of the earth and its radius is four times of the earth. Find
the value of ‘g’ on its surface.

4. A coolie lifts a luggage of 15 kg.from the ground and put it on his head 1.5 m above
the ground. Calculate the work done by him on the luggage.
5. An object of mass 15 kg is moving with uniform velocity of 4 m/sec. What is the
kinetic energy possessed by it?
6. The velocity-time graph of a body is shown below:
(a) State the kind of motion represented by OA and AB.
(b) Find the velocity of the body after 10 s and after 40 s.
(c) What is the negative acceleration of the body?
(d) Find the distance travelled between 10th and 30th second.
7. (a) State the law of conservation of momentum.
(b) A body of mass 2 kg, initially moving with a velocity of 10 m/s, collides with another
body of mass 5 kg at rest. After collision velocity of first body becomes 1 m/s. Find the
velocity of second body.
8. Explain the following briefly:
(a) A cricket ball causes much severe injury than a tennis ball on hitting a spectator.
(b) An applied unbalanced force causes a change in momentum.
(c) A greater force is required to impart greater velocity to an object.

9. Why does a gunman get a jerk on firing a bullet?

Calculate the momentum of a toy car of mass 200 gm moving with a speed of 5 mis. [Hint -
convert mass into kg].
State the law of conservation of momentum.

10. State universal law of gravitation. Explain its significance. Mass of an object is 20 kg.
Find its weight on earth and on moon.
11. (a) Draw a velocity-time graph for an object in uniform motion. Show that the slope of velocity
time-graph gives acceleration of the body.
(b) An aero-plane starts from rest with an acceleration of 3 ms–2 and takes a run for 35 s before
taking off. What is the minimum length of runway and with what velocity the plane took
off?

SECTION – B
12. Two hockey players viz A of mass 50 kg is moving with a velocity of 4 mis and another one
B belonging to opposite team with mass 60 kg is moving with 3 mis, get entangled while
chasing and fall down. Find the velocity with which they fall down and in which direction?
13. Lead has greater density than iron, and both are denser than water. Is the buoyant force on a
lead object greater than, or lesser than or equal to the buoyant force on an iron object of the same
volume? Explain your answer giving reason.
14. A man weighs 1200N on the earth. What is his mass (take g = 10 m/s2)? If he was taken to
the moon, his weight would be 200N. What is his mass on moon? What is his acceleration due
to gravity on moon?
