Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear learners, can
continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions, directions, exercises,
and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.

Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-step as
you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.

Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons in each SLM.
This will tell you if you need to proceed on completing this module or if you need to ask your
facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson. At the end of
each module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check your learning. Answer keys are
provided for each activity and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.

In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher are also provided to
our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can best help you on
your home-based learning.

Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part of this
SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises and tests. And read the
instructions carefully before performing each task.

If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in answering the tasks in
this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.

Thank you.

What is It

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 is a network operating system (NOS) used in

providing services to the local area network or wider network. The services of NOS that
the OS can provide are Web server, DHCP server, DNS server, File server, and others.
In using the OS, you must consider the hardware specification requirement before
installing it, or else the installation will fail. The OS requirement is written on the cover
of the installation disc or seen in the manual. Let us see the system requirements
below.

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

Component Minimum Specification Recommended Specification

CPU 1.4 GHz x64 2GHz or faster
Memory 512 MB of RAM or higher 2GB RAM or greater
32 GB available hard disk drive
Hard drive 40GB Full installation
space
Display Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher resolution monitor
Others Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

Exceeding the minimum and recommended hardware requirements enhance the

performance of the computer. In installing OS, you can use a bootable Windows
installation DVD or flash drive. Technicians always do clean installation of OS which
removes all the content of the hard drive. It is also known as fresh installation.
However, you can upgrade the existing OS by choosing the Upgrade during the
