‭1.‬ ‭Introduction:‬

‭Conjugate‬‭heat‬‭transfer‬‭(CHT)‬‭is‬‭a‬‭critical‬‭phenomenon‬‭in‬‭engineering‬‭applications‬‭where‬‭both‬
‭conduction‬‭in‬‭solids‬‭and‬‭convection‬‭in‬‭fluids‬‭interact‬‭to‬‭influence‬‭temperature‬‭distribution.‬‭This‬
‭problem‬ ‭is‬ ‭particularly‬ ‭important‬ ‭in‬ ‭areas‬ ‭such‬ ‭as‬ ‭electronics‬ ‭cooling,‬ ‭heat‬ ‭exchangers,‬ ‭and‬
‭aerospace engineering.‬

‭ANSYS,‬ ‭a‬ ‭widely‬ ‭used‬‭commercial‬‭software,‬‭provides‬‭robust‬‭tools‬‭for‬‭solving‬‭CHT‬‭problems‬

‭by‬ ‭coupling‬ ‭Computational‬ ‭Fluid‬ ‭Dynamics‬ ‭(CFD)‬ ‭with‬ ‭Finite‬ ‭Element‬ ‭Analysis‬ ‭(FEA)‬‭.‬
‭This‬ ‭study‬ ‭focuses‬ ‭on‬ ‭a‬ ‭2D‬ ‭conjugate‬ ‭heat‬ ‭transfer‬ ‭problem‬‭,‬ ‭where‬ ‭heat‬ ‭is‬ ‭transferred‬
‭between‬ ‭a‬ ‭solid‬ ‭object‬ ‭and‬ ‭a‬ ‭surrounding‬ ‭fluid.‬ ‭By‬ ‭setting‬ ‭up‬‭appropriate‬‭material‬‭properties,‬
‭boundary‬‭conditions,‬‭and‬‭numerical‬‭solvers,‬‭the‬‭objective‬‭is‬‭to‬‭accurately‬‭simulate‬‭and‬‭analyze‬
‭the thermal interactions.‬

‭The‬ ‭study‬ ‭aims‬ ‭to‬ ‭demonstrate‬ ‭how‬ ‭ANSYS‬ ‭software‬ ‭can‬ ‭be‬ ‭effectively‬ ‭used‬ ‭to‬ ‭solve‬ ‭such‬
‭problems,‬ ‭ensuring‬ ‭precise‬ ‭temperature‬ ‭predictions‬ ‭and‬ ‭heat‬ ‭flux‬ ‭distribution‬ ‭across‬ ‭the‬
‭solid-fluid interface.‬

‭2.‬ ‭Methodology‬‭:‬

‭Problem Definition and Geometry Creation‬

‭●‬ ‭Define the problem statement, including material properties and boundary conditions.‬
‭●‬ ‭Create a‬‭2D geometry‬‭in ANSYS DesignModeler, consisting of both a‬‭solid domain‬
‭(for conduction) and a‬‭fluid domain‬‭(for convection).‬

‭2.2.‬‭Meshing:‬ ‭Generate a structured/unstructured mesh using ANSYS Meshing.‬

‭Ensure‬‭grid‬‭independence‬‭by‬‭performing‬‭a‬‭mesh‬‭refinement‬‭study‬‭to‬‭balance‬‭accuracy‬
‭and computational efficiency.‬

‭Defining Material Properties‬

‭●‬ ‭Assign thermal properties to the solid material (thermal conductivity, specific heat, and‬
‭density).‬
‭●‬ ‭Assign fluid properties such as density, viscosity, thermal conductivity, and specific heat‬
‭for accurate convection modeling.‬

‭Boundary Conditions and Solver Setup‬

‭●‬ ‭Set up boundary conditions, including:‬

‭○‬ ‭Heat source or temperature boundary for the solid.‬
‭○‬ ‭Inlet velocity and temperature for the fluid.‬
‭○‬ ‭Convective heat transfer coefficients at the interface.‬

‭○‬ ‭Outlet pressure conditions for the fluid.‬

‭●‬ ‭Select the appropriate solver (steady-state or transient).‬
‭●‬ ‭Choose a turbulence model (if applicable) such as k-ε or k-ω for fluid flow simulation.‬

‭Simulation and Solution‬

‭●‬ ‭Solve the governing equations for heat conduction (solid domain) and Navier-Stokes‬
‭equations for fluid flow (fluid domain).‬
‭●‬ ‭Use ANSYS Fluent or ANSYS CFX to couple the solid and fluid solutions.‬
‭●‬ ‭Monitor convergence criteria, including temperature, velocity, and heat flux residuals.‬

‭Step 6: Post-Processing and Result Analysis‬

‭●‬ ‭Analyze results such as:‬

‭○‬ ‭Temperature distribution across solid and fluid domains.‬
‭○‬ ‭Heat flux contours at the solid-fluid interface.‬
‭○‬ ‭Velocity profiles of the fluid.‬
‭○‬ ‭Comparison of numerical results with theoretical/analytical expectations.‬
‭●‬ ‭Validate the model by checking against available experimental or analytical solutions.‬
