Virtual box:-

Oracle VM Virtual Box, the world's most popular open source, cross-platform,
virtualization software.

It allows users to run multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single

physical machine. Essentially, it enables the creation of virtual machines (VMs), where each
VM behaves like a separate computer, complete with its own operating system, applications,
and resources.

VirtualBox was originally created by InnoTek Systemberatung GmbH in 2007 , a

German software company which was acquired by Sun Microsystems in 2008, which was in
turn acquired by Oracle in 2010.

VirtualBox may be installed on Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Solaris and

OpenSolaris.
Virtualbox is for host-based virtualization. You use it if you want to run an
additional OS on your current system.
A hypervisor, also known as a virtual machine monitor or VMM, is software that
creates and runs virtual machines (VMs). A hypervisor allows one host computer to support
multiple guest VMs by virtually sharing its resources, such as memory and processing.

 How to Download and install VirtualBox?

Installing VirtualBox on Windows:

ISO File:-
An ISO file is a single file that contains an exact copy of the entire contents of a
CD, DVD, or Blu-ray disc.

ISO file also known as an ISO image, is a smaller sized duplicate of large sets of
data.

The term "ISO" comes from the file system used by optical media, which is the
ISO 9660 standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

ISO file is used to install operating systems like Windows, Linux, MAC os...

Instead of using physical media (like CDs or DVDs), software vendors and users
can distribute or store software as ISO files, making it easier to download, share, or keep
backups.

An ISO file is a digital copy of a physical disc that is used for software
distribution, backup, OS installations, and creating bootable media. It provides a convenient
way to handle large programs and OS installations in a single, easily downloadable file.

How to Download and install ISO File for Windows Operating system?

To download and install a Windows ISO file, you need to follow specific steps.

Step 1: Download the Windows ISO File

3. Run the Media Creation Tool:
o Open the Media Creation Tool by double-clicking the downloaded file. Click
on yes.
o Accept the license agreement.

4. Select ISO File Option:

o In the tool, select Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO
file) for another PC, and click Next.
5. Choose Language, Edition, and Architecture:
o Select your preferred language, Windows edition (e.g., Windows 10 Home or
Pro), and architecture (32-bit or 64-bit).

o Usually, the default settings based on your current PC are selected, but you
can uncheck "Use the recommended options for this PC" if you need different
options.
6. Choose ISO File:
o Select ISO file and click Next.

o Choose a location on your computer where you want to save the ISO file and
start the download.

7. Wait for the Download to Finish:

o The Media Creation Tool will download the ISO file. This can take some time
depending on your internet speed (Windows ISOs are usually 4-6 GB in size).
After download is finish ISO file is save in chosen location.
What is Operating System?

• An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware and
software resources, and provides common services for computer programs.
• An Operating System can be defined as an interface between user and hardware.
• Every computer must have an operating system so that the user can work with the
computer and other programs. Without operating system computer is not performing
any task/work.

Windows Operating system:-

Microsoft Windows, computer operating system (OS) developed by Microsoft

Corporation to run personal computers (PCs).

• The first version of Windows, released in 1985, was simply a GUI offered as
an extension of Microsoft’s existing disk operating system, or MS-DOS.
• It is licenced based operating system.
• The Windows operating system (OS) is a widely-used graphical operating system.
• It provides a platform that manages hardware, software, and user interaction in a
computer or device, enabling users to run applications, access files, and perform various
tasks through a user-friendly interface.

Windows versions are

 Windows 1.01….
 Windows NT
 Windows 98
 Windows 2000
 Windows xp
 Windows vista, Windows 7 to windows 11…etc.
Key Features of Windows Operating System:

1. Graphical User Interface (GUI):

o Windows offers a visual interface with elements like icons, windows, and
menus, allowing users to interact with the system easily, without needing to
know complex commands.

2. Multitasking:
o Windows allows users to run multiple applications simultaneously, enabling
switching between different programs like a browser, word processor, and
media player.
3. File Management:
It provides a structured file system where users can create, store, organize, and
access files and folders easily.

Installation of windows:-

Create a New Virtual Machine in VirtualBox

1. Open VirtualBox:
o After launching VirtualBox, click on the New button to create a new virtual
machine.

2. Name the Virtual Machine:

o Enter a name for your VM (e.g., "Windows 10" or "Windows 11").
o Set Type to Microsoft Windows and choose the version (e.g., Windows
10(64-bit) or Windows 11 (64-bit)).

Attach the Windows ISO to the VM in the storage settings. Choose ISO file from folder
where you can save that ISO file open.

3. Click Next.
4. Allocate Memory (RAM):
o Allocate an appropriate amount of RAM for your virtual machine. For
Windows 10/11, it's recommended to allocate at least 2 GB (2048 MB), but 4
GB (4096 MB) or more is better if your host system has enough RAM.
o Click Next.

5. Create a Virtual Hard Disk:

o Select Create a virtual hard disk now and click Create.
o Choose VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image) and click Next.
o Choose Dynamically allocated (this saves disk space by only using space as
the VM requires it) and click Next.
o Set the size of the virtual hard disk (at least 50 GB for Windows 10/11).
o Click Create.

finish windows setup is start

Step 4: Install Windows on the Virtual Machine

1. Start the Virtual Machine:

o Click Start in VirtualBox to boot the virtual machine.

2. Boot from ISO:

o The VM will boot from the Windows ISO file, and you'll see the Windows
Setup screen.
3. Install Windows:
o Follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows:
 Choose your language, time, and keyboard input method.

 Click Install Now.

 Enter a product key (or choose "I don't have a product key" if you're
testing or will activate later).

 Choose the Windows edition (e.g., Windows 10 Home or Pro).

 Accept the license terms.

 Choose Custom: Install Windows only.
 Select the unallocated space on the virtual hard disk and click Next to
begin the installation.

4. Wait for Installation:

o The installation process will take some time. The VM will restart several times
during the process.

Step 5: Complete Windows Setup

1. Set Up Windows:
o Once installation is complete, you’ll need to go through the Windows setup
process:
 Set your region, keyboard layout, and other preferences.
Select offline account and Next

Click on Limited experience

 Set up a user account and password.
 Configure privacy settings and other options.
Choose 3 security questions and answers

2. Install VirtualBox Guest Additions (Recommended):

o After Windows is installed, it's recommended to install VirtualBox Guest Additions
to improve performance, enable better screen resolution, and add features like shared
folders and clipboard sharing.
Find my device select yes and Accept
Click on skip

Not now
To install Guest Additions:

o In the running Windows VM, go to the Devices menu in VirtualBox and click
Insert Guest Additions CD image.
o Open File Explorer in Windows, go to the CD drive containing the Guest
Additions, and run VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe.
o Follow the installation prompts and restart the virtual machine after the
installation is complete.

Step 6: Use Windows in VirtualBox

 Now, your Windows virtual machine is ready to use! You can install software, browse
the internet, and perform tasks just like on a physical Windows PC.

With this process, you'll have Windows running inside VirtualBox, allowing you to test or
use the OS without affecting your main system.
