To set up Linux on a virtual machine, we require two things:

-Virtual machine software, such as VirtualBox & Linux distribution ISO file, such as Ubuntu

Step 1: Download and install Oracle VM VirtualBox .

Step 2: Open Virtual box after the installation and just click on "New".

Step 3: Choose a descriptive name and destination folder for the new virtual machine. The name you
choose will be used throughout VirtualBox to identify this machine. Additionally you can select an ISO
image which may be used to install the guest operating system. And, in type just select “Linux” and in
version select ‘Ubuntu (64 bit)’. Then, Click on next.

Step 4: Select the amount of memory (RAM) in megabyte to be allocated to the virtual machine.
Minimum of 4-8GB and click next.
Step 5: Then, you have to leave the "Create a virtual hard disk" and click on "Create".

Step 6: Choose VDI(VirtualBox Disk Image) and click on "Next".


Step 7: Choose Dynamically allocated and click on next.

Step 8: Select the size of the virtual hard disk in Gigabytes. The Size is the limit on the amount of file
that a virtual machine will be able to store on the hard disk. Let's choose 30GB. And, the click on
Create.
Step 9: Now Ubuntu is Created, Go to settings you can added your memory or you can go to processor
and choose as you want.

Step 10: Now, go to storage and then under Controller: IDE click on empty then on right side click on
blue disk then select choose a disk file.

Step 11: Then choose Ubuntu ISO from where you have saved and click on start then virtual machine
will Power-up where you will see a menu from there select ‘Try or install Ubuntu’.
Step 12: Now Ubuntu is going to start installation. Choose your language you want to continue. And,
then click on install Ubuntu.

Step 13: Choose the keyboard layout and click on continue.

Step 14: Choose on "Normal installation" and click on continue.


Step 15: Choose on "Erase disk and install Ubuntu and Click on "Install Now".

Step 16: Choose your location and click on Continue.

Step 17: Create a user account and password and Click on continue
Step 18: Now, wait for the installation to complete.

Step 19: After the installation is complete, you need to restart the computer in order to use the new
installation.

Step 20: Now, Click on username and type password and your Ubuntu will start.
