Call for Applications for Adjunct Faculty Member Positions

Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology (MBUST) invites applications for adjunct
faculty member positions. The adjunct faculty member positions are intended for those who are
employed elsewhere or engaged in freelancing but wish to contribute to academic activities of the
University in the capacity of a part-time staff. The adjunct faculty members typically work for a
day or eight hours at the University getting a formal permission from the place of their main
employment, if they are employed.
The MBUST is the first research-oriented university in Nepal established upon promulgation of
the MBUST Act, 2079 (2022 AD), which provides extensive autonomy to the University. The
mission of the University is to build prosperous and just Nepal. To attain this mission the
University has chosen the vision to be a world-class university.
The University provides a unique opportunity to make contribution to the rapid development of
the economy of Nepal by developing new knowledge and technology so that products of Nepal
become more competitive in the world market. Applications are invited from candidates who are
committed to the mission and vision of the University and have strong academic background and

of the country.

To contribute to the economic development of the country the University has adopted the strategy
of aligning its teaching and research with real-life problems of the industry. This strategy apart
from contributing to the economic development should also help the University to produce "job
creators rather than job seekers".
To maximize the impact of the University research, development and innovation (RDI) activities
on the economy it has adopted the strategy of concentrating its RDI activities on selected areas of
economy with significant potential for contributing to the economic development. Consistent with
this strategy the MBUST has selected the following areas for its engagement to begin with:
Organic Agriculture, Forest Biomaterials, Digital Technology, Sustainable and Resilient
Infrastructure and Water Resources and Energy. The MBUST activities are guided by the cross-
cutting themes: sustainable development, climate change mitigation, hill development,
inclusiveness including gender equity.
In December 2023, the University enrolled first batch of students in PhD programs in Organic
Agriculture and Forest Biomaterials Science and Engineering, research-based Master of Applied
Science programs in Organic Agriculture and Forest Biomaterials Science and Engineering. And
in May 2024, students were enrolled into research-based Master of Applied Science programs in
Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. In November 2024, Master of Applied Science program
in Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure is scheduled to start.
Adjunct faculty members should be able to offer at least a course/s equivalent to 4 credits per
semester and supervise student research. They are also expected to contribute to research, in
securing research grants and building partnership with enterprises.
Candidates with PhD in related fields, preferably with postdoc experience, from reputed
universities are welcome to apply. Qualifications for academic staff posts and terms and conditions
for employment are defined in the Regulations Related to Adjunct Faculty Members, 2081,
Personnel Administration Rules, 2080 and the remuneration scales in the Financial Management
Rules, 2080.

to study all these Rules, especially the Rules Relating to Conflict of Interest, 2080. In the interest
of maintaining the highest level of integrity of the staff and the accountability of the University,
all staff should abide by these Rules. Considering the serious damages inflicted upon higher
education institutions in Nepal by the partisan politics, all staff selected should commit to refrain
from engaging in partisan politics.
The University is located at lush green Chitlang Valley, which is at about 25 km from the center
of Kathmandu City, the capital of Nepal. The Chandragiri range separates Kathmandu Valley from
Chitlang Valley. Chitlang is a historical settlement with rich heritage. It has developed as a tourist
hub.
This call is open to Nepali citizens, non-resident Nepalese and non-Nepali citizens. Female
candidates as well as disadvantages communities are encouraged to apply.
The process of the selection of candidates will be initiated based on the applications received till
November 2, 2024; but applications can be accepted and processed until the positions are filled.
This call is for up to 2 positions of Adjunct Assistant Professor, Digital Technology.
Areas of specialization: Artificial Intelligence, Data Mining, Data Science, Machine Learning,
Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, Internet of Things, Mechatronics,
Computer Science and other relevant areas.
