Mithuna Sankranti: In India, Sankranti is celebrated when Sun travel


from one Rashi to another rashi. Sun spends around 1 month in each sign
before it transits to the next. There are total twelve Sankranti occurs in
the year known as Mesh Sakranti, Vrish Sankranti etc. Mithuna Sankranti
is celebrated, when Sun travels from Taurus sign to Gemini sign. This day
is also known as Mithuna Sankramanam in South India and it is considered
as one of the most auspicious occasions according to Hindu traditions and
customs.

Significance:
These Sankrantis are considered auspicious and is dedicated to worship
Lord Surya. This day is considered as the commencing of the beginning of
agricultural year in Odisha, celebrated as Raja Parba and people of Odisha
offer prayers to Bhu Devi.
On this day, dipping into holy River Ganga and Arghya to the Sun (offering
water to the Sun) is very much popular among Indian. It is believed that
people who take a holy dip in Ganga river, get rid of the sins committed in
the past.
For charity and donations, this day is considered auspicious. Sankranti is
believed to be an auspicious day, people do perform religious activities on
the day during Punya Kala or Maha Punya Kala. They must offer food and
clothes to the needy and poor people as it brings good fortune, prosperity
and happiness.
