VISUAL ARTS – an expressions of artistic ideas through images, structures, and


tactiles work.

PAINTING – expression of ideas and emotions, with the creation of certain aesthetic
qualities, into two dimensional visual language.

- The first paintings here in the Philippines are commissioned works during
Spanish colonization.

- Refers to works of the creative imagination, including poetry, drama, fiction etc.

THE ORDER OF NATIONAL ARTIST – Also known as Orden ng Gawad Pambansang


Alagad ng Sining the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals.

The order is concurrent administered by the NCCA (NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR


CULTURE AND ARTS) AND CCP (CULTURAL CENTER OF THE PHILIPPINES)

LEGAL BASIS

Proclamation No. 1001 Order of the National Artist Award dated April 27, 1973.

The first award goes to Fernando Amorsolo.

On May 15, 1973 under the Proclamation No. 1144, CCP Board of Trustee was
named as the National Awards Committee.

The Presidential Decree No. 28 that was issued on June 7

CATEGORIES FOR NATIONAL ARTIST RECOGNITION

LITERATURE – poetry, fiction, essay, playwriting, journalism, and literary criticism.

FILM AND BROADCASTING/ BROADCAST – direction , writing, production design,


cinematography, editing, camera work, and of performance.

ARCHITECTURE, DESIGN AND ALLIED ARTS – architecture design, interior design,


industrial design, landscape architecture and fashion design.

MUSIC – singing , composition, direction

DANCE – choreography, direction.

THEATER – direction , performance, production design.

VISUAL ARTS – painting , sculpture, printmaking, photography, installation art,


mixed media works, illustration, graphic arts, performance art or imaging.

Collar featuring circular links.
The Center Badge is divided into 3 equal portions, red, white and blue representing
K’s that stands for CCP’s motto Katotohanan, Kabutihan, at Kagandahan.

The Grand Collar is made from silver gift bronze.
