arithmetic sequence

The document outlines a lesson plan for teaching arithmetic sequences in a mathematics class, detailing objectives, content standards, and performance standards. It includes a structured approach using the deductive method, with teacher and learner activities, examples, and evaluation methods. The lesson aims to help students define arithmetic sequences, find the nth term, and understand their real-life importance.

I. Objectives At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:

a. define an arithmetic sequence
b. find the nth term of a sequence
c. value the importance of sequence in real
life.
A. Content Standards demonstrates understanding of key concepts of
sequences, polynomials and polynomial
equations.
B. Performance Standards is able to formulate and solve problems involving
sequences, polynomials and polynomial
equations in different disciplines through
appropriate and accurate representations.
C. Most Essential Learning determines arithmetic means, nth term of an
Competencies (MELC) arithmetic sequence and sum of the terms of a
given arithmetics sequence.

Everybody stand for our
morning prayer, may I request

students?”

That is good to hear.

Is there any absent from the

class?

Very Good! Maintain that

perfect attendance give
yourself a round of applause.

b. Review
Last meeting we discuss a sequence is a list of items/objects which have
about sequence, right? been arranged in a sequential way.

So what is a sequence?
Yes Nina.

Very good. No ma’am.

Are there any questions

regarding on our topic last
meeting?
Yes ma’am

c. Motivation

I have here a set of sequencial

numbers. All you need to do is identify
what numbers comes next. Is it clear?

1. 2,4,6,… 1. 8
2. 3,6,9,… 2. 12
3. 1,3,5,… 3. 7

How about if we need to find the 100th

term, do you know how to find it?
No ma’am.
Do you know that there is an aesy way
to find it?
No ma’am.

B. Presentation
Be with me this morning, as I am
going to discuss to you about
arithmetic sequence.
Everybody read!
Arithmetic sequence

Listen carefully class because

after the discussion you are
expected to meet the objectives. a. define an arithmetic sequence
Everybody read! b. find the nth term of a sequence
c. value the importance of sequence in real
life.
C. Generalization
To begin with let us first define
what is an arithmetic sequence.

Everybody read An arithmetic sequence is an ordered set of

numbers that have a common
difference between each consecutive term.
School of Teacher Education

An arithmetic sequence can be known

as an arithmetic progression. The
difference between consecutive terms is
an arithmetic sequence is always the
same.

If we add or subtract by the same

number each time to make the
sequence, it is an arithmetic
sequence.
The term-to-term rule tells us how we
get from one term to the next.

The arithmetic sequence formula is:

Where,

a n is the nth term (general term)

a 1 is the first term
n is the term position
d is the common difference

D. Lesson Proper

Example 1:

Find the 27th term of the arithmetic

sequence 5,8,11,54,...

a 1=5, d=8−5=3

So,

a 27=5+(27−1)(3)

=83

Example2:

Find the 25th term of the given arithmetic

sequence 3, 9, 15, 21, 27, …
School of Teacher Education
Now who wants to solve this example
2?
Yes Bona. Solution:

a = 3, d = 6, n = 25

Thus, substituting these values in the formula

⇒ a25 = 3 + (25 - 1) 6
an = a + (n - 1) d

⇒ a25 = 3 + 24 × 6
⇒ a25 = 3 + 144
⇒ a25 = 147

Thus. the 25th term of the given

sequence is 147. Yes ma’am, it is very important for us to be
guided on the next step we go through.

Values integration.
It is important for us to have a good insight about
Awhile ago we discuss about arithmetic everything in constant.
sequence. In your life is it important to
know the sequence of everything?

Yes maine?

Awesome idea.

How about you Jeffrey?

Very good.

It is important to know the sequence in

life for us to be sentsitively aware on
possibilities in the next journey of life.

E. Application
Since you have fully understood
the topic lets have another
activity. I will group you into two
groups. This side would be the
group 1 and this side would be
the group 2. All you need to is
answer what is ask. I will hand
School of Teacher Education
you this envelop.

Directions: answer what is ask.

1. An arithmetic progression or arithmetic
1. What is an arithmetic sequence? sequence is a sequence of numbers
2. Find the nth term, the fifth term, such that the difference between the
and the 100th term, of the consecutive terms is constant
arithmetic sequence determined 2. Solution:
by a = 2 and d = 3.
a = 2, d = 3, n = 100

an = a + (n - 1) d
a100 = 2 + (100 – 1)3

= 299

V. Evaluation

Directions: answer what is ask.

1. Find the 125th term in the 1.

arithmetic sequence 4, −1, −6,
−11, …
2. What is the 100th term of the
sequence 0,5,10,15,…?

2. 𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎1 + (𝑛 − 1)𝑑
𝑎100 = 0 + (100 − 1)5
𝑎100 = 0 + (99)5 𝑎100 = 0 + 495
𝑎100 = 495

VI. Assignment

1. What is the 50th term of the sequence 1,3,5,7,9,...?
