Mathematics
Key: GCSE content (C), Assessment (A) or Breadth (B), Skills (S).
Teachers follow the timeframe below and adapt the topics and timing according to the prior attainment of students in their class. It is important to consolidate and deepen
understanding rather than rushing through, so timings may differ slightly. Students are always encouraged to explain what they are doing and why. There are functional
problem-solving topics at the end of each unit and these provide richer activities in real-life contexts but do not contain any new knowledge. Students in Set 1 are given an
opportunity to study Additional Mathematics during Year 10 & complete the course at the end of Year11. This provides some alternative challenges and also gives them a taste
of A level. Additional Mathematics is very similar to the new GCSE but helps to deepen and stretch students’ understanding further. Students who take Additional Mathematics
in Year 10 will complete the GCSE course in Year 11 and take both exams at the end of Year 11. Students are mostly entered for GCSE Higher paper with Edexcel Examining Body.
Additional Mathematics is a FSMQ with OCR.

reasoning questions. STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) related topics are explicitly marked against certain questions in the text. Major assessments will
follow the Assessment point dates in school.
