2. FUNDAMENTACIÓN
The learning of Business English is playing an increasingly important role in students’ lives due to the fact that
in many organizations it is becoming more and more necessary to speak English in the workplace. This course
helps them get a wide-ranging overview of the business world, as well as acquiring the key communication skills
they will need in their future working growth. In this way, the students will be able to cope with situations
involving doing everyday tasks in English – communicating with colleagues and work contacts by phone, via
email, and in a range of face-to-face situations that are normally encountered in a modern and global
environment.
3. SUMILLA
The nature of the course is theoretical. The target language in each learning unit has been selected to ensure
that students will be equipped with genuinely useful, transferable language that they can take out of the
classroom and use in the workplace. Vocabulary is presented in realistic context with reference to authentic
companies or organizations. Grammar is also a key element of each unit. It is presented in an authentic context,
and ensures that students pay attention to accuracy, as well as become more proficient at expressing
themselves clearly and precisely. Speaking is included as a way to practice the vocabulary and grammar learnt.
There is a special section that will be worked in class: the Business communication section which ensures that
students are provided with a range of key expressions they can use immediately, both in the classroom and in
their day-to-day work.

Grammar: Present simple be and other verbs, possessives. Speaking: Spelling and saying numbers.
Vocabulary: Company types and activities. Business communication: Saying hello and goodbye, booking and
ordering by phone.

Vocabulary: Location and company buildings. Grammar: There is, there are, some, any.
Vocabulary: Technology and functions. Grammar: Adverbs of frequency and questions. Speaking: Starting and
ending a telephone call.
Speaking: Using sequencing words. Business communication: Leaving telephone messages, asking for and
offering help.

Vocabulary: Documents and correspondence. Grammar: Past simple.
Speaking: How to apologize. Business communication: Solving problems.
Vocabulary: Food and drink. Speaking: How to describe a trip. Business communication: Making conversation.
Temario:
Vocabulary: Responsibilities, departments and employment.
Grammar: Prepositions of place and movement, present continuous.
Speaking: This, that, these, and those, telling the time. Business communication: Showing a visitor round and
arranging to meet.
Temario:
Vocabulary: Air travel, calendars and schedules. Grammar: Going to, infinitive of purpose, present perfect.
Speaking: How to talk about money, how to use prepositions of time. Business communication: Staying at a
hotel, planning a schedule.
6. METODOLOGÍA
In each learning unit, students will learn vocabulary related to the world of business and review grammar. In the
speaking and business communication sections, the students will practice what they have learnt.
The course combines in-class teaching and autonomous learning. Vocabulary, grammar, speaking and business
communication will be developed in class while the practice files and interactive exercises will be worked
autonomously. However, both types of work will be assessed in class.
Students will work individually when they need to work autonomously or make a project and in pairs or groups
when they develop the business communication sections and the case studies.
