General Instructions:
(1) There are 33 questions in all. All questions are compulsory.
(2) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and Section E.
(3) All the sections are compulsory.
(4) Section A contains sixteen questions, twelve MCQ and four Assertion Reasoning based of 1 mark each,
Section B contains five questions of two marks each, Section C contains seven questions of three marks
each, Section D contains two case study based questions of four marks each and Section E contains three
long answer questions of five marks each.
(5) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one question in Section B,
one question in Section C, one question in each CBQ in Section D and all three questions in Section E. You
have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
(6) Use of calculators is not allowed.

22. Two identical circular loops, P and Q, each of radius r and carrying currents I and 2I respectively are
lying in parallel planes such that they have a common axis. The direction of current in both the loops is
clockwise as seen from O which is equidistant from the loops P and Q. Find the magnitude of the net
magnetic field at O.

29. Biot-Savart Law:


A magnetic field can be produced by moving charges or electric currents. The basic equation governing the
magnetic field due to a current distribution is the Biot-Savert law. Finding the magnetic field resulting from a
current distribution involves the vector product, and is inherently a calculus problem when the distance from the
current to the field point is continuously changing according. According to this law ,the magnetic field at a
point due to a current element of length dl caring current I at the distance r from the element dB

Biot-Savart law certain similarities as well as difference with Coulomb 's law for electrostatic field eg, there is an
angle depends in Biot-Savart law which is not present in electrostatic case.

30. A Faraday cage or Faraday shield is an enclosure made of a conducting material. The fields within a
conductor cancel out with any external fields, so the electric field within the enclosure is zero. These Faraday
cages act as big hollow conductors you can put things into shield them from electrical fields. Any electrical
shocks the cage receives pass harmlessly around the outside of the cage.

internal resistance of 38 ohm. Find the value of current.
32. a) Draw the equipotential surfaces of (i) uniform electric field (ii) two equal positive charges.
b) Electric field in figure is directed along +X direction and given by Ex= 5 Ax + 2B where E is in NC-1 and
x is in metre. A and B are constants with dimensions. Taking A= 10 NC-1m-1 and B =5 NC-1. Calculate (i) the
electric flux through the cube (ii) net charge enclosed within the cube.(ϵ0=8.854 x 10-12C2N-1m-2)

32. a) Define equipotential surface.
b) Three concentric metallic shells A,B and C of radii a, b and c (a< b< c) have surface charge density +σ, -σ
and +σ respectively as shown in the figure. If shells A and C are at the same potential, then obtain the
relation between the radii a, b and c.

33. a)An AC source is connected to an ideal inductor derive an expression for current and draw the phasor
and time diagram for the same.
(b) Show that the average power supplied by the source over a complete cycle is zero.

33 a) State the underlying principle of AC generator. Derive the expression for the emf generated in the coil
in terms of speed of rotation.
