This study aims to examine the relationship between working while studying and academic
success. It specifically seeks to determine whether students who work while studying perform
better or if other factors play a bigger role.
The study will answer the following questions:
1. In what ways does the type of work a student engages in influence their learning
experience and career development?
2. What strategies can students use to balance their job responsibilities and academic
requirements effectively?
3. How does working while studying affect students’ study habits, time management,
and academic performance?
4. Are there any significant challenges that working students face in balancing work and
studies?
5. Does the amount of time spent working significantly predict academic success among
students?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Students: This study will help students understand the effects of working while
studying on their academic performance. It will provide insights into time management, stress
management, and strategies for maintaining academic success despite work commitments.
Teachers: Teachers will gain insights into how working students manage their
time and academic workload. Understanding the struggles and experiences of these students will
allow educators to implement teaching strategies, flexible deadlines, and support systems to
enhance the learning experience of working students.
Researchers: Future researchers can use this study as a reference for further
exploration of related topics, such as the psychological effects of working while studying, coping
mechanisms, and institutional support systems. This study will serve as a foundation for further
investigations into student employment and academic performance.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Work Hours: The number of hours per week that a student is engaged in paid
employment. This includes both on-campus and off-campus jobs, as well as internships or
practicums if they are paid.
Financial Need: The extent to which a student requires financial assistance to cover
educational expenses. This could be measured through self-reported financial aid status,
estimated family income, or a combination of factors.
Time Management Skills: The ability of students to effectively allocate and utilize
their time to balance work, studies, and other commitments. This could be measured through
self-report scales, time diaries, or observed behaviors.
Study Habits: A student's consistent and regular approach to learning, including
behaviors like attending classes, completing assignments, reviewing notes, and preparing for
exams.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
This study focuses on the experience while studying on the academic performance of
student assistants at La Consolacion College in Bais City. The main objective of this study is to
examine how balancing work and studies affects students’ academic achievements, time
management, and overall well-being. The data collection will be conducted among selected
senior student assistant at La Consolacion College–Bais for the school year 2024-2025, who will
represent the population. The researchers will conduct interviews with students who are
currently employed while studying to understand their experiences and challenges. Students who
are not working while studying or those who are not enrolled in senior high school at La
Consolacion College–Bais for the school year 2024-2025 are not within the scope of this research.
Additionally, data collection will be limited to interviews; other forms of questionnaires or
surveys will not be included.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN
This study explores the impact of working while studying on the academic performance
of students. Aligned with this purpose, a mixed-methods research approach is used to provide
both quantitative and qualitative insights. The study aims to understand how balancing work and
academics affects students' performance, time management, and overall well-being. The
researchers will select participants who are currently employed while pursuing their studies. Data
will be collected through surveys and interviews to assess the challenges and benefits
experienced by working students. By analyzing their responses, patterns and trends will be
identified, leading to a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between employment
and academic success. Additionally, relevant literature and external sources will be reviewed to
support the findings and provide a broader context. The study’s goal is to present a well-rounded
analysis that contributes to discussions on student employment and academic achievement.
RESEARCH LOCALE
This study targeted the school of La Consolacion College- Bais City as the research locale.
Sr. Helen Grace B. Dolino is currently the head of LCC- Bais City. Researchers choose to conduct a
study in the said school because it is the nearest place for the researchers.
The student assistants were chosen as respondents because they experience the dual role of
studying while working, which may impact their academic performance. Their insights will
provide valuable information regarding the challenges and benefits of balancing work and
studies.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
The researchers used interviews as their primary data-gathering technique to collect
information for this study. The questions used in this study were formulated by the researchers
themselves, consisting of a total of five open-ended questions. This approach allows respondents
to freely express their thoughts and experiences regarding the impact of working while studying.
DATA ANALYSIS
To understand the impact of working while studying on academic performance, the
researchers conducted interview with student assistants, asking 4 main questions. These
questions focused on how to balance work and studies affects their grades, time management,
stress levels, and overall well-being. After collecting the responses, we had carefully review and
analyzed the transcripts. We had look for common themes, patterns, and repeated ideas in the
students' answers. Some key areas they examined included challenges faced by working
students, their coping strategies, and whether their academic performance was positively or
negatively affected.
ETHICAL CONSIDERATION
The researchers made sure to follow ethical rules before starting the study. They had
obtained the necessary permissions and ensure that students had participated voluntarily. All
participants had been informed about the purpose, process, and possible risks of the study. We
assured that their responses would remain private and confidential. Students had the right to
withdraw from the study at any time without any consequences. The collected data will only be
accessible to the researchers, and no external parties will be allowed to view the results. Before
answering any questions, each student gave their consent to participate. The researchers had
prioritized the comfort and well-being of the participants, ensuring they will feel safe while
sharing their experiences. By respecting their privacy and listening to their concerns, the
researchers were able to carry out the study smoothly and ethically.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND
RECOMMENDATION
CONCLUSION
The researchers, through focused data gathering and analysis, arrived at important
conclusions. The respondents were students who experienced the challenges of balancing both
work and academics. They were able to provide in-depth answers during the interviews and
surveys, which allowed the researchers to deeply understand the subject.
The study concluded that while working students face multiple challenges—such as time
constraints, stress, and fatigue—they also develop strong habits of discipline and prioritization.
These skills help them remain productive and achieve success in both fields. It was also highlighted
that time management plays a more crucial role in academic success than the number of working
hours alone. Students who use their time wisely, set goals, and follow routines are more likely to
succeed.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The following are the responds identified by the researchers for the improvement of “Lived
Experiences of Student Assistants in La Consolacion College Bais City” these are essential in
improving the student’s well-being.
4. Awareness Campaigns
Schools should encourage awareness among faculty about the struggles of working
students to promote understanding and support from teachers and staff. This can be achieved
through workshops, informational sessions, or the integration of relevant information into faculty
handbooks and orientations. Highlighting the time constraints, potential for fatigue, and the
dedication required of students balancing work and academics can foster empathy and
encourage faculty to be more flexible with deadlines or offer alternative assignment formats
when feasible. Furthermore, raising awareness among administrative staff can ensure that
working students are directed to appropriate support services and that institutional policies are
sensitive to their needs.
