INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Balancing work and studies have become a common challenge for student assistants in
La Consolacion College Bais City. As the cost of education rises, students often take on part-time
jobs to support their academic journey. However, working while studying presents both
opportunities and challenges, as it can develop time management skills while potentially causing
academic struggles due to exhaustion and divided attention. Academic success depends on many
factors, one of the most important being how much time students spend studying. Some students
believe that working while studying leads to better grades, while others think that study
techniques and other factors matter more. However, the exact impact of working while studying
on academic performance among La Consolacion College students is still unclear.
According to (Tessema, Ready, and Yu 2020), working while studying can have both positive and
negative effects. Part-time employment within reasonable hours can help students develop time
management skills, financial independence, and a sense of responsibility. On the other hand,
excessive work hours may lead to increased stress, fatigue, and reduced time for academic
activities, negatively impacting grades and overall performance (Singh & Sharma, 2018).
Furthermore, (Butler 2019) explains that the type of work and its relevance to a student’s field of
study play crucial roles in determining the effects on academic success. Employment related to a
student’s course can provide practical experience and reinforce classroom learning, while
unrelated jobs may become distractions and add to academic pressure. Understanding the
relationship between student employment and academic performance is essential for
universities, policymakers, and students to develop strategies that help students balance both
responsibilities without compromising their education.
Balancing work and studies is a common challenge for students. While working can develop time
management skills and financial independence, it may also lead to stress, fatigue, and lower
academic performance. The impact depends on factors like study time, job relevance, and
workload. Some studies suggest that part-time jobs can enhance learning if related to the
student’s field, while unrelated work may cause distractions. However, no study has been
conducted at La Consolacion College of Bais City to determine its specific effects on academic
performance.
Statement of the problem.

This study aims to examine the relationship between working while studying and academic
success. It specifically seeks to determine whether students who work while studying perform
better or if other factors play a bigger role.
The study will answer the following questions:

1. In what ways does the type of work a student engages in influence their learning
experience and career development?
2. What strategies can students use to balance their job responsibilities and academic
requirements effectively?
3. How does working while studying affect students’ study habits, time management,
and academic performance?
4. Are there any significant challenges that working students face in balancing work and
studies?
5. Does the amount of time spent working significantly predict academic success among
students?

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND
RECOMMENDATION
CONCLUSION

The researchers, through focused data gathering and analysis, arrived at important
conclusions. The respondents were students who experienced the challenges of balancing both
work and academics. They were able to provide in-depth answers during the interviews and
surveys, which allowed the researchers to deeply understand the subject.
The study concluded that while working students face multiple challenges—such as time
constraints, stress, and fatigue—they also develop strong habits of discipline and prioritization.
These skills help them remain productive and achieve success in both fields. It was also highlighted
that time management plays a more crucial role in academic success than the number of working
hours alone. Students who use their time wisely, set goals, and follow routines are more likely to
succeed.
RECOMMENDATIONS

The following are the responds identified by the researchers for the improvement of “Lived
Experiences of Student Assistants in La Consolacion College Bais City” these are essential in
improving the student’s well-being.

1.Time Management Workshops

Schools should offer training programs that teach effective time management, goal setting,
and study strategies tailored for working students. These can help them better balance their dual
responsibilities. These programs should equip them with practical skills to create personalized
schedules balancing work and academics, prioritize tasks efficiently, and minimize time-wasting
activities. Goal-setting training should help them define realistic academic and career goals, break
them down into manageable steps, and align their studies with their professional aspirations. Study
strategies should address limited study time by emphasizing active learning, effective note-taking,
and leveraging available resources. Implementing such programs through workshops or online
modules can significantly improve working students' academic success and overall well-being by
helping them effectively manage their dual responsibilities.

2.Flexible Academic Support

Academic institutions should consider providing flexible deadlines, online learning
options, or support groups for working students to help ease the pressure of balancing school
and work. Expanding online learning options offers greater accessibility and convenience,
enabling students to study around their work schedules. Additionally, establishing support groups
can provide a valuable network for student assistants to share experiences and coping strategies,
fostering a sense of community and reducing feelings of isolation. These measures demonstrate
institutional support and contribute to a more inclusive learning environment.
3. Counseling and Peer Support
Academic institutions should consider providing flexible deadlines, online learning
options, or support groups for working students to help ease the pressure of balancing school
and work. Furthermore, they should also invest in robust counseling services specifically tailored
to address the unique challenges faced by working students, such as time management
difficulties, stress related to juggling responsibilities, and feelings of isolation. Creating
opportunities for peer support, through mentorship programs or dedicated working student
networks, can also be invaluable in fostering a sense of community and allowing students to share
experiences and coping strategies.

4. Awareness Campaigns
Schools should encourage awareness among faculty about the struggles of working
students to promote understanding and support from teachers and staff. This can be achieved
through workshops, informational sessions, or the integration of relevant information into faculty
handbooks and orientations. Highlighting the time constraints, potential for fatigue, and the
dedication required of students balancing work and academics can foster empathy and
encourage faculty to be more flexible with deadlines or offer alternative assignment formats
when feasible. Furthermore, raising awareness among administrative staff can ensure that
working students are directed to appropriate support services and that institutional policies are
sensitive to their needs.
