CECS1010_Lab 1-1 Report

The document outlines a lab exercise for CECS1010, focusing on the basic functions of electrical engineering equipment such as DC power suppliers, signal generators, multimeters, and oscilloscopes. It includes practical demonstrations using a multimeter to measure a resistor, a DC power generator for voltage measurement, and a signal generator with an oscilloscope to analyze waveforms. The lab emphasizes the importance of these tools in understanding electrical properties and circuit behavior.

CECS1010: Introduction to Engineering and Computer

Science
Lab 1: Electrical Engineering Equipment

⮚ Describe the basic functions of

o DC power supplier (10%):
DC power suppliers can regulate the voltage to maintain a constant output
voltage, regulate current to prevent overload and, convert Alternative
current to Direct current. Moreover, it also acts as a voltage source,
providing a stable voltage that allows current flow in a circuit.

o Signal generator (10%):

A signal generator produces different electrical signals with specific
frequencies, amplitudes, and waveforms, such as sine, square, or triangle
waves. Additionally, it is also used for testing and characterizing
electronic devices by simulating input signals.

o Multi-meter (10%):
A multimeter can measure various electrical properties including voltage (
AC and DC ), current ( AC and DC), and resistance. Moreover, It can also
test continuity to check for open circuits.

o Oscilloscope (10%):
An oscilloscope displays waveforms of electrical signals on the screen,
allowing users to observe the amplitude, frequency, and shape of signals
over time.

⮚ Show your demo pictures of:

o Using a Multi-meter to measure a resistor. Compare the measured value with the
color code on that resistor (20%).
-The value of the resistor based on color code: 1(Brown)0(Black) * 10^3(Orange)
= 10000 Ω = 10 kΩ
-The measured value is 9.905 kΩ which is still in the tolerance zone value of the
resistor ( 9.5 kΩ - 10.5kΩ )

o Using DC power generator as the voltage source (5V) of a resistor circuit and
Multi-meter to measure voltage of each resistor (20%).
- The measured value of the voltage source is 4.998(V):

- The measured value of voltage of resistor 1 and resistor 2 is

1.659(V):

- The measured value of voltage of resistor 3 is 3.337(V):

o Using signal generator to generate square signal (100Hz) as the input of RC
circuit and an oscilloscope to measure output waveform of this circuit (20%).
