Question / Answers
1. Why are people considered a resource?
People are a nation’s greatest resource. Nature’s bounty becomes significant only when
people find it useful. It is people with their demands and abilities that turn them into
‘resources’
Human resource is the ultimate resource .Healthy , educated and motivated people
develop resources as per their requirements.
The world population has grown rapidly because of the advancements made in technology and
science. This has led to an increase in the development of healthcare facilities and food
production which has led to a decrease in the death rate.
5. Mention the characteristics of human resources.
6. What do you understand by population change? Mention the factors that influence
population change.
A6. The population change refers to change in the number of people during a specific time.
Many factors influence this change-
1. High difference between birth rate and death rate is the cause of population change.
2. Migration of people from one country to another.
3. Political ,social and religious factors.
4. Better health facilities leading to longer life span.
5. Rising standard of living.
A7. Population pyramid is a graphical way of showing male and female population of a country
according to their ages. It is also knows as the age sex pyramid. It is also known as the age-sex
pyramid. It also helps us to understand the following
1. Male and female population age wise.
2. The birth rate is high or low in a country.
3. The death rate is high or low in a country.
4. The number of dependent populations.
5. It also shows the level of development of a country.
8. What is meant by population composition? How is it useful?
A9. There are two groups of dependents - young dependents (aged below 15 years) and elderly
dependents (age over 65 years). Those of the working age are economically active.
Human Resources can be regarded as the country's most valuable asset. Various resources
surround us, but it is up to us to convert these resources into useful products. India's
government has a Ministry of Human Resource Development. Individuals are a valuable
resource for the country, as evidenced by this. In addition, between 2016 and 2020, the
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PKVY) was launched to train one crore Indian youth.
12. What are population pyramids? How do they help in understanding the Population of a
country?
Ans. A population pyramid is the tapering of a number of males and females in different age
groups.
The shape of the population pyramid helps in understanding the Population of a
country.
The number of children below 15 years is shown at the bottom and reflects the level of
birth.
The top size shows the number of aged people and reflects the number of deaths.
A country with high birth and death rates is broad at the base and rapidly narrow
towards the top and vis-a-versa.
In countries like India, the death rate is decreasing, so the pyramid is broad in the
younger age groups, and the size of the pyramid decreases steadily.
Note - Given below are the three types of population pyramids.
THREE TYPES OF PYRAMIDS
1. Kenya
● Broad base and rapidly narrow towards the top.
● High birth rate, rapid fall in each upward age group due to high death rates,
short life expectancy .
● This is because although many children are born, a large percentage of them die
in their infancy, relatively few become adults and there are very few old people.
● Less developed country.
2. INDIA
● The pyramid is broad at the base among the younger age group.
● High birth rate, fall in death as more living in middle age, slightly longer life
expectancy.
● The pyramid is broad in the younger age group because more infants survive to
adulthood.
● Developing country, relatively large number of young people which means
strong and expanding labour force.
3. JAPAN
● Pyramid narrow at the base.
● Declining birth rate, low death rate, more people living to old age.
● Better medical facilities, More women workforce.
● Highly developed, Industrialised country.
