Quality Control Department
Quality control (QC) is a process through which a business seeks to ensure that
product quality is maintained or improved. Quality control requires the company to create an
environment in which both management and employees strive for perfection. This is done by
training personnel, creating benchmarks for product quality, and testing products to check for
statistically significant variations.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
• Quality control (QC) is a process through which a business seeks to ensure that
product quality is maintained or improved.
• Quality control involves testing units and determining if they are within the
specifications for the final product.
• The food industry uses quality control methods to ensure customers do not get sick
from their products.
• Quality control creates safe measures that can be implemented to make sure
deficient or damaged products do not end up with customers.
Quality control involves testing units and determining if they are within the
specifications for the final product. The purpose of the testing is to determine any needs for
corrective actions in the manufacturing process. Good quality control helps companies meet
consumer demands for better products.
Quality testing involves each step of the manufacturing process. Employees often
[8]
begin with the testing of raw materials, pull samples from along the manufacturing line, and
test the finished product. Testing at the various stages of manufacturing helps identify where a
production problem is occurring and the remedial steps it requires to prevent it in the future.
In automobile manufacturing, quality control focuses on how parts fit together and
interact and ensure engines operate smoothly and efficiently. In electronics, testing might
involve using meters that measure the flow of electricity.
Quality control inspectors protect the consumer from defective products and the
company from damage to its reputation due to inferior manufacturing processes. If the testing
process reveals issues with the product, the inspector can fix the problem himself, return the
product for repairs, or tag the product for rejection. When issues arise, the inspector notifies
supervisors and works with them to correct the problem
Implementing quality control procedures ensures you are selling the best products
to your customers. In addition, practicing quality control has a positive impact on employee
conduct. Quality control can inspire employees to create high-quality goods leading to greater
customer satisfaction.
Quality control protocols may help you lower your inspection costs and use your
resources in a more cost-effective manner, too.
Quality control means how a company measures that its product quality is
maintained (if it is good) or improved if need be. Quality control can be done in many ways,
from testing products, reviewing manufacturing processes, and creating benchmarks. This is
all done to monitor significant variations in a product
Quality control ensures that defective goods do not go out to the public. Companies
that have quality control methods in place often have employees who pay close attention to
their work.

Project Allotted for Internship
❖ Water dip Air Leakage Detection System
Project Head : Sujit Gangurde
Supervisor: A.S. Kombale
People often ignore compressed air leaks, but doing so can lead to several problems,
including the following:
Wasted Energy
Reduced Productivity and System Efficiency
Reduced Equipment Life and Increased Maintenance
Compressed air leaks create an artificial demand for air, which offers no productive value in
return. Leaks consume airflow, resulting in operating pressure drops at the points of use.
Increasing the compressor’s pressure to compensate for the leaks only exacerbates the
problem. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that leaks, artificial demand, and
inappropriate usage waste half of all compressed air. Considering the billions of dollars spent
on compressed air each year, that’s a tremendous cost for wasted energy that produces no real
value. Individual facilities could lose thousands of dollars each year in wasted air alone, not
including related operational losses.
Problem Statement
Shock absorbers when manufactured may have very minor leakage holes which can
not be detected by open eyes. So to solve this problem of precision leak detection we have
developed a air pressure based system ad accuracy is improved.

Welding
Welding is a fabrication process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics,
by using high heat to melt the parts together and allowing them to cool, causing fusion.
Welding is distinct from lower temperature techniques such as brazing and soldering, which
do not melt the base metal (parent metal).

Grinding Machine
A grinding machine, often shortened to grinder, is one of power tools or machine tools
used for grinding. It is a type of machining using an abrasive wheel as the cutting tool. Each
grain of abrasive on the wheel's surface cuts a small chip from the workpiece via shear
deformation.
Grinding is used to finish workpieces that must show high surface quality (e.g., low
surface roughness) and high accuracy of shape and dimension. As the accuracy in
dimensions in grinding is of the order of 0.000025 mm, in most applications it tends to be a
finishing operation and removes comparatively little metal, about 0.25 to 0.50 mm depth.
However, there are some roughing applications in which grinding removes high volumes of
metal quite rapidly. Thus, grinding is a diverse field
Types of Grinders
• Surface Grinder
• Angle Grinder
• Cylindrical Grinder
• Belt Grinder
• Bench Grinder
• Jig Grinder
• Gear Grinder
• Center Grinder
• Die Grinder
[19]
Angle Grinder
An angle grinder, also known as a side grinder or disc grinder, is a handheld power
tool used for grinding (abrasive cutting) and polishing. Although developed originally as tools
for rigid abrasive discs, the availability of an interchangeable power source has encouraged
their use with a wide variety of cutters and attachments.
Angle grinders may be used for removing excess material from a piece. There are
many different kinds of discs that are used for various materials and tasks, such as cut-off
discs (diamond blade), abrasive grinding discs, grinding stones, sanding discs, wire brush
wheels and polishing pads. The angle grinder has large bearings to counter side forces
generated during cutting, unlike a power drill, where the force is axial.
Angle grinders are widely used in metalworking and construction, as well as in
emergency rescues and bicycle theft. They are commonly found in workshops, service
garages and auto body repair shops. There are a large variety of angle grinders to choose
from when trying to find the right one for the job. The most important factors in choosing
the right grinder are the disc size and the power of the motor. Other factors include power
source (pneumatic or electric), rpm, and arbor size. Generally disc size and power increase
together. Disc size is usually measured in inches or millimetres. Common disc sizes for angle
grinders in the United States include 4, 4.5, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12 inches, while in Europe most
common sizes for angle grinder discs are 115 and 125 millimeters. Discs for pneumatic
grinders also come much smaller. Pneumatic grinders are generally used for lighter duty jobs
where more precision is required. This is likely because pneumatic grinders can be small and
light yet remain powerful, because they do not contain heavy copper motor windings, while
it is harder for an electric grinder to maintain adequate power with smaller size. Electric
grinders are more commonly used for larger, heavy duty jobs. However, there are also small
electric grinders and large pneumatic grinders.
Disc Cutter
[20]
A disc cutter is a specialised, often hand-held, power tool used for cutting hard
materials, ceramic tile, metal, concrete, and stone for example. This tool is very similar to an
angle grinder, chop saw, or even a die grinder, with the main difference being the cutting disc
itself (a circular diamond blade, or resin-bonded abrasive cutting wheel for a disc cutter vs.
an abrasive grinding wheel for an angle grinder). This tool is highly efficient at cutting very
hard materials, especially when compared to hand tools.
Often cutting discs, also known as cut-off wheels, are made from a solid abrasive
disc. These discs are often used for cutting metal; they are composed of an abrasive mix of
grit and adhesive that is formed into a thin, rigid disc with fiber webbing running through it
for strength. Some discs used for cutting ceramic tile or stone are made from a solid disc with
an edge coated with diamond grit. The most common size for these cutting wheels is 4-1/2
inches in diameter; however, they can range from 2 to 16 inches in diameter with a thickness
range from .045 in. to .125 in. Type 1 discs are flat, and type 27 discs have a raised hub.
These wheels are strong but are not immune to breaking. If a cutting wheel breaks while in
use, fragments could injure the operator or nearby co-workers. To avoid breaking cutting
discs, never exceed the maximum speed (RPM) specified on the disc, and do not overload
the disc by cutting with excess force or jamming the wheel into your workpiece.
Many manual cutting tasks require a hand-held grinder using a cutting wheel. Metal
fabrication is one of the most common uses for cutting wheels. Used to cut sheet metal,
sizing metal stock for welding, cut a weld to re-weld it, and cutting and notching steel pipe
are just a few examples. Die grinders and Chop saws are other common tools used with
cutting discs. Smaller projects and smaller or more precise cuts may require a die grinder
equipped with a cutting wheel. These cutting wheels or discs are extremely thin and often
less than 2 inches in diameter. Because they are so thin, they are commonly made of metal
and have a diamond coated edge as the abrasive. This type of disc cutter is good for sheet
metal and for lightweight or thin materials. Thicker or heavier materials will need a larger
disc cutter
Drilling Machine
[21]
A drill is a tool used for making round holes or driving fasteners. It is fitted with a bit,
either a drill or driver chuck. with hand-operated types dramatically decreasing in popularity
and cordless battery-powered one’s proliferating.
Drilling machine is a device that can be used for drilling, enlarging, reaming, tapping
and shaving end faces.
Drills are commonly used in woodworking, metalworking, construction, machine tool
fabrication, construction and utility projects. Specially designed versions are made for
miniature applications.

Air Compressor
[22]
into a storage tank, increasing the pressure. When the tank's pressure reaches its engineered
upper limit, the air compressor shuts off. The compressed air, then, is held in the tank until
called into use. The energy contained in the compressed air can be used for a variety of
applications, utilizing the kinetic energy of the air as it is released and the tank depressurizes.
When tank pressure reaches its lower limit, the air compressor turns on again and re-
pressurizes the tank. An air compressor must be differentiated from a pump because it works
for any gas/air, while pumps work on a liquid

Summary
It was a great internship in Socket Technologies full of knowledge. I really enjoyed the
training period. I learnt about different manufacturing techniques used in industry. I work on
the machines under the guidance of supervisor.
In the period of internship, I work on the project of visualise air leakage detection system
This project is based on quality checking of shock absorbers used in 2-wheeler automotives.
While casting shock absorbers in casting industries the casting mould may generate air
bubbles inside the cavity which leads into the minor leak holes inside the shock absorber
cylinders. Like driving with completely worn-out shocks, struts, or springs, driving with
broken air suspension components is not recommended. If your air suspension fails, you can
likely drive to your local Advance Auto Parts, mechanic, or home, but you shouldn't continue
to daily drive with the failure. Failed air suspension parts cause negative handling
characteristics and it beats up the rest of your vehicle.
[25]
While air system issues seem more complex than in a standard suspension, the solutions aren't
much harder and parts swap out in a familiar manner. This project can solve issues of leak
detection system for shock absorbers used and manufactures in various industries.
Quality is an important key to industry. Low quality grade equipment always fail at customer
end. So to improve the quality inspection process in industry we have developed this system.
Automotive industries need our solution to detect the quality defects in their products.
