Research Topic: Effectiveness of Technology in aiding Persons with Disabilities
Possible Research Title: Exploring the Impact of Assistive Technologies to Individuals with
Physical Disabilities
______________________________________________________________________________
I. Project Time-frame:
❖ Possible time frame to finish the research study
October 2023 - March 2024
II. Project Background:
❖ Give a brief background of the study, explain the rationale as well as the reason why there is a
need for a research study. Explain what needs/problems you are trying to solve, and why
these needs/problems are worth solving. You should also provide a brief setting and history
behind the project.
Background
People with disabilities might experience far better lives because of technology. Any device that
enables the people with disabilities to fulfill the tasks that would be challenging or impossible for
them.. From simple gadgets like screen magnifiers to sophisticated software applications that enable
people to communicate and control their environment, technology can come in many forms and
dimensions.
Although assistive technology has been around for a long time, it has recently improved in ability and
value. This is a result of improvements in computer technology and an increase in understanding of
the needs of those people with disabilities.

Rational and Need for Research
Despite all the benefits of Technology, more studies on its effectiveness is still needed at this point.
This is due to the wide range and complexity of the Technology field, which makes it challenging to
determine which technologies work most effectively for various disabilities and tasks.
Furthermore, technology is continually changing, making it more essential to keep up with the most
recent advancements and analyze their possible effects on persons with disabilities.
Needs/Problems
This study aims to address the needs/problems:
- Finding the best Technology solutions for people with disabilities can be challenging.
- More recommendations based on evidence must be provided for using Technology in settings
such as education, the workplace, and other areas.
Why these Needs/Problems are worth solving
The major effect of Technology on the lives of those people with disabilities is that they may be able
to live more independently, by participating in society more actively, and develop their full potential.
However, many persons with disabilities lack access to the Technology they need or are unable to
choose the best Technology that would fit for their particular needs. This may be caused by lots of
things, including a lack of knowledge, having no money to pay for it, and a lack of access to people
who are aware or skilled.
III. Project Objectives:
❖ State explicitly what goals the project is aiming to achieve. Relate your objectives in
undertaking the study and the research agenda of the school or of the field. Remember the
SMART objectives.
● Specific: The research we conduct will Identify the Impact of assistive technologies in the lives
of Physically Disabled people, what their daily routine is like, etc.
● Measurable: Our research intends to know how those with physical disabilities adapted to
their current condition by conducting Interviews and Case Studies.
● Achievable: Our research plans to make more and new devices or machines that can help
PWD’s. Some examples of helpful technologies for the disabled people are sensors, adapted
tools, and communication support.
● Relevant: Our research wants the PWD’s to also feel and live like a normal person. We should
treat them as a normal person and give them equal opportunities. We should also give them

the respect that they deserve.
● Time-Bound: We schedule our Interviews of our participants and make sure they are
comfortable during it. Same for Case studies.
IV. Statement of the Problem:
❖ State here the questions that your research study will address.
1. How long does it take for amputees to get used to prosthetics?
2. How do societal factors, including stigmatization and attitudes towards disability, influence the
adoption and effectiveness of assistive technologies?
3. To what extent do assistive technologies enhance the overall quality of life and independence
of individuals with physical disabilities?
4. How does the cost of assistive technologies impact their accessibility and affordability for
individuals with physical disabilities?
V. Significance and Focus of the Study:
❖ What are the benefits of your study? (contribution to your field)
● The benefits of this study will include a higher quality of life as people have to worry less about
their health conditions and enjoy living in the moment. It would also help the Elderly and be
more independent as the assistive technology allows them to do things on their own, without
much reliance on a caregiver.
❖ Who will be the beneficiaries of your study?
● Doctors:
The research we’ve conducted can help doctors, more specifically prosthetists and physical
therapists in developing more advanced assistive devices.
● The Elderly:
People aged 60+ had the best years of their lives behind them. And may suffer from various
conditions such as Back pain, Vision problems (Cataracts,Refractive Errors) and Mental
Conditions such as Depression and Dementia. Assistive technology as simple as a Cane can
help them walk or a Tablet to help them re-live memories can make this period of their lives
more bearable and enjoyable.
.
● Caregivers and Nurses:
Caregivers and Nurses are responsible for the majority of comfort care and personal/direct
patient care. Personal caregiving activities include helping with various things the patient is no
longer able to do unassisted.
● Amputees:
Prosthetics can help those who went through the pain of losing an appendage from
unfortunate circumstances such as Accidents & Diseases. Bringing back a functionality they
have lost using the power of technology.
● Some groups or categories of people who have disabilities:
Prepared by: Rhealyn Chabelita Nabias
2023-2024
1. Cognitive disability: intellectual and learning disabilities/disorders, distractibility, reading
disorders, inability to remember or focus on large amounts of information
2. Hearing disability: hearing loss or impaired hearing
3. Physical disability: paralysis, difficulties with walking or other movement, inability to use a
computer mouse, slow response time, difficulty controlling movement
State the focus of your study, simply specify the scope and the delimitation of your study.
Scope: Effectiveness of Technology in aiding persons with disabilities
Delimitation: How Assistive technology improve the quality of life of persons with physical disabilities
VI. Methodology (Any)
❖ Explain the group’s initial plan for data gathering procedure and the statistical tool to analyze
the gathered data.
Our group’s methods of gathering data for the research include:
1. One on One Interviews:
Our group may conduct an Interview with a Person with Physical Disabilities, to learn more
about their experiences and how they coped with the changes in their lives.
2. Case Study:
A Case study on a PWD (Persons with Disability) would provide us with rich and personal
data. such as their daily activities and their jobs or observing their behavior throughout the day.
Note:
I. Formatting of the Paper
⮚ Use Arial, 12.
⮚ Bold the headings and subheadings, do not bold unless necessary.
⮚ Use proper outlining format for your outputs.
⮚ Print outputs on a clean sheet of short bond paper, 8.5 x 11”, at least substance 20.
⮚ Staple hardcopies, if more than one page, on the top-left corner.
⮚ Observe the use of narrow margins all throughout the paper.
II. Mechanics
