Fernando Amorosolo
(1892-1972)
• Born: May 30, 1892, in Paco, Manila, Philippines
• Died: April 24, 1972
• He was named the first National Artist of the
Philippines in 1972 for his contributions to art
and culture.
• He earned the title "Master of Light" for his
ability to use natural light to create glowing
and vibrant scenes in his paintings.
• Renowned as the "Grand Old Man of Philippine
Art," Amorsolo is celebrated for his luminous
paintings depicting rural Philippine landscapes and
traditional Filipino customs.

Juan Luna (1857- 1899)
• Born: October 23, 1857, in Badoc, Ilocos
Norte, Philippines
• Died: December 7, 1899, in Hong Kong
• Was a Filipino painter, sculptor and a
political activist of the Philippine
Revolution during the late 19th century.
• His masterpiece Spoliarium hangs in
the National Museum of Fine Arts in
Manila and is celebrated as one of the
greatest artworks in Philippine history.
“Spoliarium”
-Spoliarium is a Latin word that refers to
the basement of the Roman Colosseum,
where fallen and dying gladiators were
dumped. The largest painting in the
Philippines, measuring 13.8 feet by
25.18 feet.

Victorio Candido Edades

• Was a pioneering Filipino painter and

Philippine art. Known as the "Father of
Modern Philippine Painting,"
• His works featured distorted forms, bold
colors, and non-traditional subjects,
focusing on laborers, factory workers,
and everyday life rather than idyllic rural
landscapes.
