MAC: MAC water subsidiary signs Php1.41Bil loan for Lapu-

Lapu City seawater desalination plant and water supply
project

MAC announced the signing of a Php1.42Bil financing loan agreement

with SECB for the development of its seawater desalination plant in Lapu-
Lapu City, Cebu. According to MAC, the agreement marks a significant
milestone in the project’s initial development phase, which now includes the
construction of a 20MLD desalination plant in Punta Engaño—an increase
from the original plan of 15MLD—and a 500 cubic meters per day (CMD)
desalination facility on Olango Island.

Economy: Temporary tariff reprieve granted for

smartphones, computers, chips

Based on a notice from the US Customs and Border Protection, electronic

imports to the US will be exempted from Trump’s reciprocal tariffs.
The exclusion covers smartphones, computers, and other electronic
components including semiconductors, among others. According to the
White House, the move aims to give companies time to shift production to
the US. However, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick later warned that
the exemptions may be temporary and that some electronics would still be
part of a separate tariff on semiconductors that could take effect in a few
months. (Source: CNBC)
