3 a) Derive the expression for energy density in an electrostatic field. 7


b) Five equal point charges, Q=20nC are located at x=2,3,4,5,6 m. Find the potential at the origin. 3
c) The plane Z=4 is the interface between two dielectrics. The dielectric in region Z>4 has
dielectric constant of 5 and E = 4 â x - 12 â y + 8 â z v/m in that region. If the dielectric constant
is 2 in region Z<4, find the electric field intensity in that region. 5

c) A solenoid with length 10m and radius 1cm has 450 turns. Calculate its inductance. 3
d) A cobalt ring (r=600) has a mean radius of 30cm. If a coil wound on the ring carries 12A,
calculate the number of turns required to establish an average magnetic flux density of
