QUESTION TWO (20 MARKS)

A voltage regulator is to be designed to power a car radio at VL = 10V from an automobile
battery whose voltage mat vary 11.5V and 13.8V.
The car radio is to be assumed to be a pure resistor, whose resistance varies from to
The manufacturer specifies that the minimum diode current be kept at 10% of the maximum
diode current.

a) Draw the configuration of the voltage regulator circuit, clearly indicating the limiting
resistor, Zener diode, voltage source, and the load resistor. (2marks)
b) Label the source current, load current and diode current and write the expression that
relates these three currents. (1mark)
