AICE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE AS LEVEL

COMPONENT 2: ESSAY (40 MARKS – 32% overall AS score)

Instructions: Candidates write an essay on a global issue of their own choice. The essay must be framed as a single
question which is clearly focused on a global issue. Candidates should focus their individual research on identifying
and exploring the context and basis of arguments from different global perspectives. They should identify different
perspectives, understand the arguments, reasoning or claims upon which these perspectives are based, offer a critical
view of them and reach a personal, supported view.

This paper is designed to argue your research question. There must be an equal YES and NO side. Paper must
have an answer of choice! You are essentially writing a discursive essay. Your thesis will be your research
question, and your answer will be discussed in the conclusion.

Use at least 3 countries on each side of the argument,
for at least a TOTAL OF 6 Countries
Use three Themes (lens or perspectives)

3 Countries must be from Developed Countries

You can also use cultures and additional countries if you can. The more countries you use, the better.

They should be the same countries evaluated from both sides.

discuss the different aspects of the argument: economic, social, political, technological, legal, scientific,

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHIES

You must do 12 annotated bibliographies. You have 6 countries, so each country will have a yes and a no annotated
bibliography. Within each of these, you need to make sure you cover your THEMES (or your lenses). I am not
going to mandate that you do an annotated bib per country, per theme, but make sure you have the information you
need with at least 6 countries (developed and developing and three themes (at very least 2 themes).

Only 300 words per bibliography with only 1 or 2 sentences of summary. Write legitimate analysis for strengths
and weaknesses. Evaluate ethos, logos, pathos, reliability, validity, bias, fallacies, depth, breadth, scope, & key
concepts. DO NOT FAKE THIS. You will be directly using this in your essay.

NO QUOTES. Do not quote anything – this does not mean do not reference or cite. This simply means NO
Quotations. Quotations mark your paper as similarities or plagiarized. You may summarize and paraphrase (all
with proper APA in-text citations).

THE PAPER: A research paper should only consist of 20% research, data, and facts. And your Turnitin.com
report must be less than 5%. You need a 0 AI)% Report. This paper is on YOUR analysis, not all the information
you can find shoved together.

Additionally, it is critical that you are dependent on all your research and not one of two critical resources.
AICE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE AS LEVEL
COMPONENT 2: ESSAY (40 MARKS – 32% overall AS score)
Important: Your research needs to be analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated
based on the strengths and weaknesses of your research. USE YOUR ANNOTATED
BIBLIOGRAPIES with your strengths and weaknesses. Write about your
assessment of the ethos, logos and pathos both strengths and weaknesses. Also
include a thorough analysis of why your research was valid and reliable, and
relevant. Also include the KEY TERMS from the Cambridge list. Use any gaps,
inconsistencies or flaws in logic as well as any fallacies or biases that you
assessed. Whenever you use a source, write about its validity and reliability.

*Commentary/Explanation:
Additionally synthesize your sources. Let them “speak to each other” as well as
compare and contrast them using your strengths and weaknesses from your bibs.
There needs to be a full evaluation and explanation of why the sources are valid,
reliable, and how they relate, compare, or contrast with one another and the
importance of how these sources work together to support your arguments.
First person, here, (the use of I) is acceptable with regards to how you are
evaluating your sources.

Your references should SPEAK to each other.

At least two different authors and resources should be included in each paragraph.

Your paragraphs can look something like this. This is not a writing course, so if you do not know how to write an
AEC paragraph, please consult your English teacher, but essentially, it is not difficult, just follow the below format.

Topic sentence: transition statement, topic + point of paragraph including theme

Assertion/POINT (this is your point) Evidence/Paraphrase: This is your paraphrase or summary with proper in-
