concurrent users is limited in number to that which you are entitled under
your initial purchase of Software licenses and any additional purchases of
licenses for the same Software which increase the number of allowable
concurrent users.
You may not sub-license, rent or lease the Software, but you may transfer
the Software and accompanying written materials on a permanent basis,
provided you retain no copies and the recipient agrees to the terms of this
Agreement.
You may not modify, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, or
disassemble, create derivative works based on, or copy (except for back-
up as permitted above) the Software, except to the extent such foregoing
restriction is expressly prohibited by applicable law.
YOU MAY NOT USE, COPY, MODIFY, OR TRANSFER THE SOFTWARE
OR ANY COPY IN WHOLE OR IN PART, OR GRANT ANY RIGHTS IN
THE SOFTWARE OR ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATION, EXCEPT
AS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED IN THIS AGREEMENT. ALL RIGHTS NOT
EXPRESSLY GRANTED ARE RESERVED BY TANDBERG OR ITS
SUPPLIERS.
Limited Warranty and Disclaimer. TANDBERG warrants that, for a period
of ninety (90) days from the date of delivery of the Software to you, the
media on which the Software is furnished, if any, under normal use will be
free from defects in materials and workmanship, and that the Software will
perform substantially in accordance with the TANDBERG product
documentation published by TANDBERG and included with the Software.
TANDBERG and its suppliers' entire liability and your exclusive remedy
under this warranty (which is subject to you returning the SOFTWARE to
TANDBERG or an authorized reseller) will be, at the option of
TANDBERG, to replace the media and/or Software or to refund the
purchase price and terminate this Agreement. TANDBERG does not
warrant that the Software will meet your requirements, that the operation
of the Software will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any or all errors
will be corrected. You understand and agree that the Software is no

SUPPLIERS MAKE AND YOU RECEIVE NO WARRANTIES OR
CONDITIONS, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE,
AND TANDBERG AND ITS SUPPLIERS SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIM ANY
CONDITIONS OF QUALITY AND ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES,
INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY WARRANTY OF
MERCHANTABILITY, NONINFRINGEMENT, OR FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE. YOU ASSUME THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR
THE SELECTION OF THE SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE TO ACHIEVE
YOUR INTENDED RESULTS, AND FOR THE INSTALLATION OF, USE
OF, AND RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE SOFTWARE AND
HARDWARE. TANDBERG DOES NOT WARRANT THAT USE OF THE
SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR FREE.

POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE
LIABILITY OF TANDBERG, ITS AFFILIATES, SUPPLIERS, OR
AUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTORS EXCEED THE AMOUNT PAID FOR THE
LICENSED SOFTWARE AT ISSUE. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE
LICENSE FEE REFLECTS THIS ALLOCATION OF RISK. SOME
JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION
OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO
THE ABOVE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

Introducing See&Share™ Software

See&Share conferencing software is a client/server application that lets

you share applications and information with anyone, anywhere in the
world. This guide explains how to install, configure and maintain the
See&Share servers. For information about the client version of
See&Share software, refer to its online Help.

See&Share Software Services

See&Share software includes two services:
• The Master Server service manages the list of active conferences and
balances the conference load on the Conference Servers.
• The Conference Server service transmits conference data between the
server and clients.

Admin Tools
The server software also includes an Admin Tools application. You can
use the Admin Tools to configure the servers and monitor their
performance, manage your See&Share software licenses, and change a
variety of options that control passwords, sharing, remote control and
more.

Server Clusters
See&Share software is scalable. A Master Server installation
automatically includes a Conference server, and both are necessary on
the Master Server. However, if you create a server cluster by adding more
servers, each additional server needs only a Conference Server. The
Master Server will balance the load of conferences and traffic across the
cluster of Conference Servers.

—1—
Before you can add Conference Servers to a cluster, you must assign a
clustering authentication password on the Master Server (page 9). You’ll
need this password each time you install an additional server.

Master Conference
Internet
Server Servers

Minimum Server Requirements

None of the servers should have more than 150 concurrent users. In
addition, each server must meet the following minimum requirements:
• 500 MHz Pentium® III processor
• Windows NT® 4.0 (Service Pack 6a), Windows® 2000, Windows XP or
Windows Server™ 2003 operating system
• Any Windows network software or Novell™ NetWare® 6.0 software
If you use a faster server or one with no other applications installed, your
system will perform better.

—2—
Installing the Server Software

1. Insert the installation CD in the CD drive. The CD is self starting, but it

won’t run if the Autoplay feature is deactivated. In this situation, open
the Setup.exe file on the CD.
2. Select one of the following installation options:
• The Master Server option includes the Master Server, Conference
Server and Admin Tools. Select this option only if you’re installing the
software on the main server.
• The Conference Server option includes the Conference Server and
the Admin Tools. Select this option if you’re adding a Conference
Server to the cluster.
3. Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
NOTE: See&Share software initially installs as an evaluation version.
You must activate the server software and user licenses as explained
on page 4.

—3—
Managing Software Licenses

During the 30-day free evaluation period, the server allows five concurrent
user connections. After 30 days, the evaluation version expires and users
can no longer conduct conferences on your server.
To use See&Share software for more than 30 days, place an order before
the evaluation period expires. Contact your TANDBERG dealer for
information about ordering the server software and concurrent user
licenses.
When you activate a server, it allows five concurrent user connections.
To allow more users, you must acquire more user licenses. Any participant
can use any one of the licenses, as licenses are not assigned to individual
users.
NOTE: If you need assistance while you activate the server license,
contact your TANDBERG dealer.

Activating the Server License

1. Start the See&Share Software Admin Tools on the server that’s
running the Master Server program.
2. Click the Licensing tab.
3. In the Conference Servers table, select the server you’d like to activate.
4. Click the Install Server License button to open the Install Server
License dialog box.
5. Copy the serial number for the server from the Sales Order
Confirmation e-mail you received, paste the number into the Install
Server License dialog box, and click OK.
The server appears in the Licenses table at the bottom of the tab. Under
most circumstances, a Web service automatically activates the server
license. However, if the Web service is temporarily unavailable or if you
don’t have access to the Internet, you may have to activate the license
manually (as explained in the next step).

—4—
6. If the Status column of the Licenses table indicates that the server
software license hasn’t been activated, right-click the Server Software
row and select Activate.
The dialog box that appears allows you to choose between retrying the
automatic activation and entering the activation key manually. If you

circumstances, a Web service automatically activates the user licenses.
However, if the Web service is temporarily unavailable or if you don’t
have access to the Internet, you may have to activate the licenses
manually (as explained in the next step).
6. If the Status column in the Licenses table indicates that the user
licenses haven’t been activated, right-click the User Licenses row and
select Activate.
The dialog box that appears allows you to choose between retrying the
automatic activation and entering the activation key manually. If you
choose to activate the license manually, select Manually Activate, and
then follow the on-screen prompts.

Removing Server or User Licenses

1. In the Licenses table, right-click the row for the license you want to
remove and select Delete.
2. Click OK in the confirmation message that appears.
NOTE: The deleted licenses will remain active until you stop and restart
the services.

—5—
Viewing Status Information

The Admin Tools let you view the status information for See&Share
software, including active conferences, server performance and server
usage. To view the status information for all the See&Share software
servers, open the Admin Tools on the Master Server.

Viewing Active Conferences on the Server

1. Start the See&Share Software Admin Tools.
2. In the See&Share Software Administration Tools window, click the

1. Start the See&Share Software Admin Tools.
2. In the See&Share Software Administration Tools window, click the
Performance tab.
A table with a detailed summary of the system performance appears.
This table includes the Conference Server IP address and domain name,
the conference traffic measured in kilobytes per second, the number of
active conferences, the number of users connected (and the total number
of licenses), and the server’s status.
The Performance tab indicates the statuses of the servers:
Alive: The server is active.
Offline: The Conference Server is no longer connected to the Master
Server.
On Hold: The server is on hold. (See page 15 for a description of
“On hold”.)

Viewing Server Usage Reports

See&Share software creates a server usage report on each Conference
Server and saves the report in a file named See&Share_ActivityLog.txt.
You’ll find this file in the directory to which you installed See&Share
software. As new information accumulates, See&Share software adds it to
the end of the file.
—6—
You can use the Logs Purged after box to control how long the log stores
information about server usage. The default value is 30, which means that
log entries older than 30 days are deleted from the log automatically.
However, you can enter any setting between 1 and 120.
To view server usage reports
1. Start the See&Share Software Admin Tools.
2. In the See&Share Software Administration Tools window, click the
Report tab.

Appendix A: Communication Security Overview

Secure Sockets Layer Standard (Version 3.0)

See&Share software complies with the SSL 3.0 standard for secure Web
communications. Data transmitted in SSL mode is encrypted to prevent a
third party from viewing it while it’s in transit between a client and server.
See&Share software has been tested to ensure that the encryption
mechanism and the communication layers conform to the standard.
The SSL standard was originally constructed by Netscape®
Communications Corporation to provide secure communications between
a Web browser and a Web server. Since its inception, the standard has
been revised several times to strengthen security and fix security holes
that existed in previous versions. Version 3.0 of the standard is mature,
well established in the industry and has remained unchanged since
November, 1996.
Software toolkit vendors supply libraries that implement the SSL standard
and can be used to build SSL-capable applications. See&Share software
uses a toolkit called Open SSL to provide SSL security on both the client
and the server. This toolkit implements both the SSL and the Transport
Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols, as well as a full-strength general
purpose cryptography library. For information about this toolkit, visit
www.openssl.org.

Certificates
A certificate is a digitally signed document that serves to validate the
sender’s authorization. See&Share software generates a new 168-bit SSL
certificate each time the server starts.

Appendix B: Distributing the Client Software

When you’ve set up the See&Share software servers, the client software is
available for download from: http://server.company.com (where
server.company.com is the See&Share software server you’ve created).
By default, visitors to this address see a Web page with basic instructions
and a link for installing See&Share software.

Customizing the Web Page

You can customize the Web page users see when they browse to the
server. To do this, create an HTML page called CustomPage.htm and put
it in the server application directory.
NOTE: For greater security, the See&Share software server makes only
CustomPage.htm available to a Web browser. If this file includes images
or other files, those images and files must be hosted on a different server
and referenced with absolute links within the custom page.

Appendix C: Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is See&Share software scalable?

A. Yes. You can have a number of Conference Servers, all controlled by a
Master Server. The Master Server balances the load among the
Conference Servers to ensure the best performance.

Q. Can I install the Master Server and a Conference Server on a server

running the Microsoft Internet Information Service (IIS)?
A. Yes. However, you will need to use IP binding or a port other than 80.
You can define these settings when you install See&Share software on
the server, or you can use the Setup tab of the Admin Tools after
installation (pages 11 and 13).

Q. Can I install the Master Server and Conference Server inside my

firewall?
A. Yes, but you should install the services either outside the firewall or in a
DMZ. This allows both internal and external users to connect to the
server directly. A direct connection has the best performance.
If the See&Share service is installed behind an organization's firewall,
only the internal users can connect to it directly. A firewall might prevent
external users from connecting to the server at all, and even if they can
connect, they have to use an HTTP connection rather than a direct
connection. An HTTP connection does not perform as well as a direct
connection.

Q. Do See&Share software services require a dedicated server?

A. Not necessarily. The See&Share services are small and require few
system resources, so they can work well even on a server that runs
other services and applications. IP Binding and port configuration are
advanced features that let you run See&Share along with other
services on a server machine (see page 11).
However, you must consider the server’s anticipated workload. If you
need to support conferences that include hundreds of participants
sharing complex information, you’ll need a dedicated server.

Q. How can I remove See&Share software from one server so I can install
it on another?
A. Just uninstall See&Share software on the server you no longer need,
install it on the new server, and reactivate the server licenses and user
packs.

Q. A user is having a problem. How can I log system events to a text file?
A. Instruct the user who’s experiencing the problem to restart the client
and then type LOG in the Server Name box before clicking the Connect
button. As long as the user remains connected to the server, any
system events related to that server will be recorded in a text file called
See&Share_Log.txt, which See&Share software saves in the client
computer’s root directory.

Q. Can I customize the Web page that appears when users type the
server name into their Web browser?
A. Yes. Just create an HTML page called CustomPage.htm (with
appropriately linked images), and copy it to the server application
directory See page 20 for further details.
