A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics

The lesson plan aims to teach Grade 1 pupils to identify, name, and describe four shapes: square, rectangle, triangle, and circle in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. The lesson includes various activities such as singing a song about shapes, using tangrams, and drawing exercises to reinforce learning. Evaluation will be conducted through identifying shapes from pictures and an assignment to draw objects representing the specified shapes at home.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 1

I. Objective:
At the end of the 45 minutes discussion, the pupils in the Grade 1 will
be identify, named and describe the four shapes (square, rectangle,
triangle and circle) in 2 dimensional (flat/plane) and 3 dimensional
(solid) objects.

Values: Be considerate

II. Content and Materials

A. Two dimensional objects
B. Textbook on mathematics in primary grades pages 67-71, k to 12
curriculum guides in mathematics
C. Laptop, projector flash cards the forms (such as square, rectangles,
triangles, and circles), work sheets
III. Procedure
Teachers Activities
1. Preliminary Activities
Greetings The teacher will greet the pupils.
Prayer The teacher will ask the pupils who can
lead the prayer to the class.
Checking the attendance The teacher will ask the pupils if there’s
anyone is absent in the class.
Drill The teacher will show a real-objects that
shapes the different types the two-
dimensional objects
Review The teacher will ask the pupils to recall
what was the lesson yesterday.
Motivation The pupils will sing a song
“Two-Dimensional”

Rectangle and triangle

These are Shapes
These are Shapes

 What is the shapes name in the

song?
 Is that shape a two-dimensional
object?
2. Developmental Activities
Lesson Presentation The teacher will show a tangram seven
flat shapes that the pupil will the shapes.

 What are the flat shapes you’ve

shown?
 Is there a circle in those shapes?
 What shapes are used in the
tangram?
Analysis and discussion the topic The teacher will discuss the tangram flat
shapes, the two-dimensional objects and
ask pupils how do differ from each other.

The tangram are one square, one

parallelograms and five triangles, this
shapes are examples of two-dimensional
shapes that they can only be drawn on a
flat surface such as paper, they have also
two-dimensional length and width.

“Here are some common 20 shapes”:

This is triangle and

it has three sides.

This is a square,
it has four equal sides and
four right angles.

This is rectangle,
it has two
opposite sides
of equal
lengths and it has
also, four right angles.

This is pentagon and it

has five sides.

a circle length or width

but it is also considered
has a two-dimensional
shapes, because
when we divide
it into two equal parts,
each part is
called half circle
when we divide the circle
in two four equal parts, each part
is called quarter circle.
the common
two-dimensional shapes
are circle, triangle square,
and rectangle.
Polygons are
two-dimensional
shapes also because
they are made up
of segments.

 Now I will ask you class what are

the two-dimensional objects?
 Is polygons a two dimensional
shapes also?

Abstraction
Activity #1 The teacher will show a picture and the
pupils will name what are the shapes
presented.

1. 2.

3. 4.

5.
Activity #2 The teacher will let the pupils draw
example of an objects that has two-
dimensional and name it.

In your worksheet draw an object that is

familiar to you and has a two-dimensional
and put the name of the shape you draw.

Activity #3 The teacher will group into 3 which every

group will have a worksheet that given by
the teacher.

Now class each group will color the

drawing on the worksheets, triangle in
yellow, circles in green, triangles in brown
and squares in orange.

Application The teacher will let the pupils form a

house on the board using cut out shapes
given by the teacher 1 triangle, 1 square,
2 quarter circles, 2 triangles.
Using this cut out shapes form a house
on the board

IV. Evaluation The teacher will show some pictures of

an objects and tell the pupils to identify
and name it.

Class, I have some pictures and now

please get a piece of paper and you will
identify if it is two-dimensional objects or
not on you will name those shapes.
V. Assignment In your house draw the object that
represents the following shapes:

1. Circle
2. Rectangle
3. Triangle
4. Square
