b) Where are the stagnation points?
c) Find the value of the stream function passing through stagnation points.
d) What is the width of the long thin shape around which the fluid flows?
e) Where is v = 0?

5) A certain point, the coast line makes a rectangular bend, as shown in the figure. The flow functions
are given for a 90 o bend are as follows.
φ = Ar n cos ( nθ )
where n=2
ψ = Ar n sin ( nθ )
On the horizontal part of the bend, a beach with a length of 100 m is located. The velocity of the sea
water is found to be 0.1 m/s at a location where x = 50 m and y = 0 m.
When the sea water is polluted by the petroleum wastes, it is desirable to keep the beach clean by
injecting sea water at the rate of q m2 /s per unit depth from the corner of the bend.
a) Determine the stagnation point for the resulting flow field.
b) Determine the va lue of the stream function at the stagnation po int.
c) Determine the equation of the streamline, which separates the polluted sea water from the clean sea
water.
d) Determine the strength of the source, if it is desirable to keep the polluted sea water at least 50 m
away from the beach.
