COORDINATE GEOMETRY
ASSIGNMENT

1. Prove that the points (3, 0), (4, 5), (-1, 4) and (-2, -1), taken in order, form a
rhombus.

2. Find a point on y-axis which is equidistant from the points (5, -2) and (-3, 2).

3. Show that following points are vertices of a rectangle:

(a) (2 , -2) , ( 8, 4) , ( 5, 7 ) , (- 1, 1)

(b) (-4 , -1) , (-2 , 4) , ( 4, 0 ) , ( 2, 3 )

4. If the mid- point of the line joining (3, 4) and (z, 7) is (x, y) and 2x + 2y + 1 = 0 find
the value of z.

5. Find the co- ordinates of the points which divide the line segment joining the
points (-4, 0) and (0, 6) in four equal parts.

6. Find the lengths of the medians of a ΔABC having vertices at A (0, -1), B (2, 1) and
C (0, 3).

7. Determine the ratio in which the line 2x + y - 4 = 0 divides the line segment joining
the points A (2, - 2) and B (3, 7).

8. Find the value of x such that PQ = QR where the co- ordinates of P, Q and R are
(6, -1), (1, 3) and (x, 8) respectively.

9. Prove that the points A (1, 7), B (4, 2), C (-1, -1) and D (-4, 4) are the vertices of a
square.

10. Prove that the points (3, 0), (6, 4) and (-1, 3) are vertices of a right angled
isosceles triangle.

11. The line joining the points (2, 1) and (5, -8) is trisected at the points P and Q. If
point P lies on the line 2x - y + K = 0. Find the value of K.

12. If the points A (6, 1), B (8, 2), C (9, 4) and D (k, p) are the vertices of a
parallelogram taken in order, then find the value of k and p.

13. Find a relation between x and y such that the point (x, y) is equidistant from the points
(7, 1) and (3, 5).
14. Find the ratio in which the line segment joining the points (– 3, 10) and (6, – 8) is
divided by (– 1, 6).

15. Find the ratio in which y-axis divides the line segment joining the points A(5, -6),
and B(-1, -4). Also find the coordinates of the point of division.
