 Each question carries 17½ marks.
SECTION A.

1. Comprehensively examine the characteristics of a pre-colonial nation in Africa.


2. Explain how the Europeans created the present nation-states in Africa.
3. “The European colonization of Africa was motivated by the need for markets for
manufactured goods and sources of raw materials”. Discuss.
4. What can African leaders learn from Bismarkckk’s handling of the scramble for Africa at
the Berlin Conference of 1884-85.

SECTION B.

5. Do you agree with people who say that “Kenya’s post-election violence 2007-2008 was
a product of European colonization?”
6. “Different ethic groups in the colonies united to fight for independence, but fought each
other after independence” Explain.
7. “Many factors combined to bring about the failed stated in post-colonial Africa, like
Somalia” Discuss.
8. Examine the aims and challenges of devolved government in Kenya.
