Aim: Develop a webpage for embedded video streaming using professional
HTML5 editor.
Objective:
This practical introduces us to the concept of Augmented Reality (AR), a technology that
overlays digital elements onto the physical world through devices like smartphones or
Google Glass. AR enhances user experiences by providing real-time interaction between the
real and virtual environments. Exploring AR apps allows us to see how it integrates into
everyday life for navigation, gaming, shopping, and more.

Step-by-Step Guide
Tools:

 Smartphone (iOS or Android) or Google Glass

 AR Apps: Google Lens, IKEA Place, Pokemon GO, Google ARCore, or Apple ARKit

1. Understanding Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that layers digital content onto the real-world environment in real-
time. Unlike Virtual Reality (VR), which creates a fully immersive digital experience, AR combines the
physical and digital worlds. Devices like smartphones, tablets, and smart glasses make this possible by using
cameras, sensors, and AR apps.
2. Exploring AR Using a Smartphone

Steps to Follow:

 Option 1: Google Lens (Available on Android and iOS)

Google Lens is a powerful AR tool that helps you explore the world around you by recognizing
objects, places, and even text.
Steps:
1. Install Google Lens from the app store (if not pre-installed).
2. Open the app and point the camera at any object or place.
3. Google Lens will identify the object, and provide information or options, such as translating text,
shopping for items, or learning more about landmarks.
4. This is an example of AR enhancing reality with additional data.

 Option 2: IKEA Place (Available on iOS and Android)

IKEA Place allows users to virtually place furniture in their rooms to see how it will look in real life.
Steps:
1. Download the IKEA Place app from your app store.
2. Open the app, scan the room, and select a piece of furniture from the catalog.
3. Place the furniture virtually in your room, and walk around it to see how it fits into your space.
4. Experience how AR enables real-time interaction between the virtual furniture and your physical
environment.

 Option 3: Pokemon GO (Available on iOS and Android)

Pokemon GO is a popular game where users find and catch virtual creatures (Pokémon) that appear
overlaid in the real world. Steps:
1. Download Pokemon GO from your app store.
2. Open the app, and start exploring your surroundings.
3. Use the AR mode to see Pokémon appear in your physical environment.
4. Experience how AR blends gameplay into the real world by placing digital elements in your
surroundings.
3. Exploring AR Using Google Glass

Google Glass is a wearable AR device that displays information directly in your field of view, offering a
hands-free augmented experience. While not widely available today, it represents an important step in the
evolution of AR technology.

Steps to Experience Google Glass:

1. Wear the Google Glass and activate the device.

2. Look through the lens as the device overlays information, notifications, or navigation prompts into your
view.
3. Use voice commands or the touchpad to interact with the AR elements.
4. Observe how AR enhances real-world tasks, like getting navigation instructions while walking or identifying
objects without pulling out your phone.

Conclusion:
By completing this practical, we experienced Augmented Reality (AR) using smartphones
and, optionally, Google Glass. AR technology has immense potential for transforming how
we interact with the physical world, providing rich, interactive experiences in real-time.
From enhancing daily activities like shopping or playing games to providing information
instantly, AR is a critical technology for the future.
