1 Scope and purpose

This standard applies to hoses (hose metre goods and hose sections) and moulded parts (e.g. hose elbows
and branch hoses) that are to be used in coolant lines of MAN commercial vehicle in accordance with MAN
334-1. The tests in accordance with MAN 334-2 are intended for the assessment of the service life of these
components and shall above all provide information about the suitability of the hoses or moulded parts, in
particular with regard to the pressure supports used and the type of manufacture.

2 Test methods

2.1 Initial release

During the initial release of a new hose configuration the supplier is obliged to perform the following tests
under his own responsibility and to submit the full results for hose metre goods with different nominal
diameters and for the moulded part test specimen (double S, see Appendix A for example) to the
department Material Technologies, (Dept. EOMC), Nuremberg plant:
- General tests
- Static pressure test
- Dynamic long-time impulse test

2.2 Initial sample inspection for moulded parts

- General tests
- Static pressure test
- Dynamic short-time impulse test

Co-sponsors of the standard: EOMC, EPNC Continued on Page 2 to 9

3 Test objects (design, number)

Suppliers of hoses and moulded parts for coolant lines are evaluated as system suppliers. This means that the
tests shall be aimed at the entire range that is currently standard.
For the initial release, the test specimens shall be presented to the Material Technologies department (Dept.
EOMC), Nuremberg plant, after completed testing.

3.1 Hose metre goods

On straight hose sections, the following nominal diameter ranges d shall be checked depending on the
manufacture of the hoses:

4.2 Static pressure test

Medium: Water
Test specimens: Hose metre goods according to the nominal diameter ranges, moulded test specimen (double-
S, see Annex A for example) or initial specimen
Number of test specimens: 5
The test specimen filled with water (see Section 3) is brought to constant test excess pressure at a pressure rate
of approx. (0,5 ± 0,2 bar) / s, and held at this pressure over the test period and measured at room temperature
after the reduction of the test excess pressures to 3 bar (Types 3, 4, 5 and 6), 3.5 bar (Type 9) or 4 bar
(Types 7 and 8).
The test specimen is then made to burst at a pressure rate of (0,5 ± 0,2) bar/s.

Explanations
The material version Type 9 in accordance with MAN 334-1 will be blocked for new designs with initial release
date from 01.11.2024 and completely replaced by Type 2 in accordance with CVS58.
For new designs with initial release date from 01.11.2024 onwards, Type 2 shall therefore be used instead of
the material version Type 9 in accordance with CVS 58, and its test requirements shall apply.
For existing component documentation with initial release prior to 01.11.2024 and reference to material version
Type 9 of MAN 334-1, the requirements for this type remain fully valid in accordance with this document.
