The document outlines three major environmental issues: climate change, deforestation, and waste pollution, detailing their societal impacts such as increased natural disasters, loss of biodiversity, and urban flooding. It also discusses two methods for addressing these issues: implementing the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' principle and transitioning to renewable energy sources. Additionally, it summarizes several Republic Acts aimed at environmental protection, including the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, and the Environmental Impact Statement System.

1.) Enumerate three environmental impact and issues, and its impact to our society.

a. Climate change is the rise in temperature of the Earth causing the increasing frequency
and severity of natural disasters, such as- Typhoon, drought, and heat waves- which
destroy lives and livelihoods. Further rise in sea levels will threaten coastal fields and
force people into migration causing social and economic stress.
b. Deforestation- The large-scale elimination of forests reduces biodiversity as it destroys
the home of millions of species of plants and animals, some of which become
endangered or extinct. Such activities also disrupt the carbon cycle, adding carbon
dioxide to the atmosphere and accelerating climate change.
c. Waste Pollution- The unregulated storage and disposal of gigantic amounts of waste,
particularly plastic and hazardous waste, poisons water and soil, endangering life. It also
clutters drainage systems, giving rise to urban flooding, and reduces the aesthetic and
economic appeal of coastal areas such as beaches and riverbanks.

2.) Identify two different ways of protecting and addressing the adverse effect brought by
man to the Environment.
Other ways to combat the destruction kissing the earth by man are:
I. Reduce waste with the support of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"- minimize consumption;
reuse whenever possible; recycle those items when it is impossible to reuse them in
order to conserve resources. It is the first concept in waste management that suggests
ways to reduce the amount of waste produced and encourages persons to attempt to
reuse everything before throwing it away. Materials that can be recycled into new
products should be processed.
II. Switching to renewable energy sources like solar and wind power so that we reduce
our dependency on fossil fuels, which are major contributors to greenhouse gas
emissions. The burning of fossil fuels has a negative impact on the environment; hence,
by embracing renewable energy options like solar and wind power, the carbon footprint
can be reduced.

3.) What is the Republic Act 9003 all about?

Also known as the "Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000". Its
adoption was primarily to create and maintain a more environmental sound approach to
solid waste management by promoting waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and proper
disposal, with the goal of achieving a 25% waste reduction target through integrated solid
waste management plans at the local government unit level-and basically focusing on the
"3Rs" principle of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

4.) What is the Republic Act 9275 all about?

Republic Act 9275, also known as the "Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004," is a
law that aims to provide comprehensive water quality management by preventing and
controlling and seeking to abate pollution from land-based sources in the Philippines
including setting up water quality standards and regulations for all water bodies within the
country (fresh, brackish, and marine); basically, the aim is to protect the health and
welfare of the whole nation through water having access to clean water.

5.) What is the Republic Act 8749 all about?

Republic Act No. 8749 or the Philippine Clean Air Act is a law that intends to set
a comprehensive policy to control air pollution in the Philippines with the aim of
preserving air quality by regulating emissions, designating air quality management areas,
and promoting pollution prevention measures across industries and citizens, with a
strong emphasis on preventing pollution rather than controlling pollution as its last resort;
it also provides for mass mobilization, education, and enforcement to ensure compliance.

6.) What is the P.D. 1586 all about and why was P.D. enacted?
Commonly referred to as P.D. 1586 or Presidential Decree No. 1586, this piece
of legislation in the Philippines established the Environmental Impact Statement System
(EIS), under which any person, partnership, or corporation must secure an Environmental
Compliance Certificate (ECC) before engaging in essentially any activity that would likely
significantly affect the environment. The law aims to provide a balance between
economic growth and environmental protection, by imposing an impact assessment on
the potential environmental damage before undertaking environmentally critical projects.

7.) What is the role of EMB (Environmental Management Bureau)?

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), a line agency of the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), formulates and implements
plans, programs, and environmental quality standards to prevent and control pollution
through environmental impact assessment and compliance with environmental laws of
the Philippines-acting as the basically acknowledged national authority for pollution
prevention and control in the country.
