BUILDING AND ENHANCING NEW LITERACIES ACROSS THE CURRICULUM

Interviewee:

Why are some students not socially adept and what interventions
can be used to develop their social skills?

We must consider that their struggle with social skills may stem from

development differences, such as learning disability, insufficient exposure to

social situations, shyness, or experiences of bullying can also contribute.

Some children face communication difficulties, including language barriers or

cultural differences, while other may limited by overprotective parenting. To

help students develop their social skills, we should create open spaces-

meaning opportunities for interaction. Group activities or a buddy system can

foster positive interactions, encourage students and model positive behavior,

always encourage them to talk, and above all, listen.
