C_Experiment_10

The document outlines Experiment 10 of the MCE1030 course, focusing on interfacing a 3D printer with a 3D model to print it. It details the objective of understanding the 3D printing process, the required components, and the steps involved from design creation to printing. Key steps include using CAD software to create a model, exporting it as an STL file, and using slicing software to prepare it for printing.

a) The first step of 3D printing typically starts on a computer. You must create your design
using a 3D design software, typically a CAD (computer-aided design) software.
b) Once you have created or chosen a design, you must either export or download the STL file.
The STL file is what stores the information about your conceptual 3D object.
c) There are many different 3D printing materials available (like PLA, ABS etc), and you can
choose them based on the properties that you want your object to have.
d) The next step is then deciding on the different parameters of your object and the printing
process. This includes deciding on the size and placement of your print.
e) You will then import the STL file into a slicing software, like “Creality_Slicer-4.8.2-build-
146-win64”. The slicing software will convert the information from the STL file into a G-
code, which is a specific code containing exact instructions for the printer.
f) Save your slicing file into memory card and insert memory card into printer for printing.
