JOURNAL ENTRY NO. 2

Core 20- Spirituality and Ethics | Surrender and Discernment

Class number: ______ Grade 12: ____________________

Name:: __Art Benedict C. Moneva_______________________ Date of submission: ____________

Ignatian surrender and discernment are deeply rooted in the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the
Jesuit order. His teachings focus on aligning one’s will with God's will and cultivating a deep relationship with God.

Surrender and discernment form a dynamic process: surrendering to God’s will in humility and then discerning how best to
live it out. Both practices focus on trusting God, being open to transformation, and listening attentively to God’s invitations in
various life circumstances.

Reflection points:
(1) As you look at areas of your life, what is Christ inviting you to surrender? Why is surrendering that area of your life to
Christ difficult? At the end of this prayer period, make your prayer of surrender as a way of asking God’s grace to do
so.
Reflection Title: Letting Go and Trusting God

During our hardest times, a lot of us would usually panic and overthink about the things that would happen if
we don’t fight or flight the situation. However, for me surrendering my hardships and things that I am going
through to God is the way to deal with things like these.

One thing I surrendered to God is the anxiety I feel towards the unknown future. Ever since I entered senior
high school, I’ve been feeling more anxious as I have ever been regarding the future ahead of me. I realized that
I am in the final chapter of highschool and I would be entering a new chapter of life which is college. Before
this, my anxiety wasn’t really bothering me, but as I entered the endgame of highschool which is Grade 12, it
started to bother me as I realized the end of a chapter in my life is fast approaching. I started worrying about
which school I would want to enter and what life would be like outside the school I’ve been in for the last 6
years. However, it was during the retreat last Feb 10 to Feb 12 where it wasn’t only me who also found this as a
struggle as a lot of my classmates also shared to us that they to are also anxious about the future ahead of them.
After this, I decided to surrender to God my future and anxiety in His hands and I hope he guides me to the
right path in life.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I come before You with an open heart, knowing that You call me to trust in You fully. I surrender to
You the areas of my life that I have held onto too tightly—my plans, my worries, my need for control. Help me to
release these into Your hands, knowing that You are a loving and faithful God. Give me the grace to trust in Your
will, even when I don’t understand it. Give me the strength to forgive, the courage to walk in faith, and the peace
that comes from resting in Your presence. Lord, I surrender to You today and always. Let Your will be done in my
life. Amen.

(2) In addition, think of one major decision you are facing now and briefly describe it. You will also find time in prayer to
ask God’s grace to help you discern well. Compose a short prayer asking for God’s intervention and grace as you go
through the process of discernment.
Reflection Title: ___________________________________

A major decision that I am currently facing at the moment is “What course in college should I take?” Although
Nursing has been the #1 choice for me since I was in Grade 10, during the Work Immersion that I had last
January 20-24, it opened the vast range of possibilities in the Medical Field that I found quite interesting. One
example is Physical Therapy, I was assigned to the Therapy ward in Ramon Tabiana and it gave me a glimpse of
a life as a physical therapist and the activities they do which I found quite fun and interesting. Another one is
being a Doctor, although at one point of my life I was set on becoming a Doctor, I realized that if I want to
help my parents right away financially, I would take a course that allows me to help them right away after
passing the board exam. However, during the work immersion, I got to witness minor-surgeries in the OPD
which I really enjoyed watching despite it being gory. This made me reflect again about the decision I want to
take in the future.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart seeking wisdom and clarity. You know the decision that lies
before me, and You understand the worries and uncertainties that come with it. Lord, I do not want to rely on my
own understanding but instead trust in Your perfect will. Grant me the grace to hear Your voice clearly, to
recognize the path You have set before me, and to have the courage to follow it with faith. Remove any fear or
doubt that clouds my judgment, and fill me with the peace that comes from knowing You are in control. Let Your
Spirit lead me, Lord, and may this decision bring me closer to You. Amen.
