Overview of the India Young Researcher Fellowships Program (Scheduled for 2025)
1. Purpose of the Program
The aim of the Program is to deepen collaborative research between Japan and India by facilitating supporting
the invitation of Indian graduate students and postdoctoral researchers supervised by local researchers
conducting or planning joint research with Japanese researchers. (joint supervision by both Japanese and Indian
researchers).
2. Eligible Candidates and Support Period
Eligible Candidates: Master's and doctoral students, as well as postdoctoral researchers affiliated with
Indian universities.
Support Period: Up to 1 year.
3. Target Research Fields
(i)AI & Information Technology, (ii)Biotechnology, (iii)Energy, (iv)Materials Science,
(v)Quantum Science, (vi)Semiconductors, (vii)Telecommunications, (viii)Others
4. Application Method
Proposals must be submitted by the Japanese host research institution.
5. Selection Process
Selection will be conducted through a document review by external experts.
6. Schedule
Around May 2025 : Call for proposals (open for approximately 3 months).
Around November 2025: Selection of successful proposals.
Around January 2026 : Contract signing between JST and the Japanese host institution.
(*) After signing the contract with JST, the candidate may stay in Japan for up to one year.
7. Others
During their stay in Japan, it is possible for participants to undertake an internship at a Japanese private
company if a suitable match is found.

of the implementation of the trial program conducted by JST last year. Please refer to the official application
