teaching grounded in global best practice and lead
colleagues in promoting quality teaching and learning.
HIGHLY PROFICIENT (Career Stage 3)
3 Teachers who consistently display a high level of
performance in their teaching practice, mentor colleagues
and work collegially other staff.
PROFICIENT (Career Stage 2)
2 Teachers who independently apply teaching principles and
strategies skills vital to the teaching and learning process.
BEGINNING (Career Stage 1)
1 Teachers who have gained the qualifications recognized for entry
into the teaching profession and need support from more
experienced colleagues.

A detailed presentation of the indicators of quality teachers in 37 strands along 7 domains for each career
stage is given in DO 42, s. 2017 – National Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine Professional
Standards for Teachers.
The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers in the Philippines states how the teacher ought to act in and
relate to the state, community, teaching profession, higher authorities, school officials and other personnel,
learners, parents and business. It also states how a professional teacher ought to act and behave as a
person.

1. From the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the videos that you viewed;
what competencies does a great teacher possess?
Based on the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the videos watched, a great
teachers possess a variety of competencies that help them excel in their role. Some of these
competencies include strong communication skills, the ability to engage and motivate students,
effective classroom management, subject knowledge, adaptability, and a passion for teaching.
2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?
Competencies are not limited only to professional skills or abilities. Competencies can also refer
to personal qualities or characteristics that help a teacher succeed in various aspects of their teaching
life. It is not just talking about job-related skills, but also about the qualities that make a teacher
effective in different areas of teaching.
3. For the teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a
lesson, execute the lesson, manage a class, assess learning, compute and report grades?
Explain your answer.
We need to consider that being a great teacher involves more than just following a set of
professional competencies. While these skills are important, what truly sets a teacher apart is their
passion for teaching, their ability to connect with students, their creativity in engaging learners, and their
dedication to helping students succeed.

4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important – personal qualities or professional
competencies?
Both personal qualities and professional competencies are important for a teacher to be great.
Personal qualities can help build strong relationships with students and create a positive learning
environment, while professional competencies are necessary for delivering high-quality instruction and
ensuring student success.
5. Who are the teacher that we remember most?
The teacher we remember most are the ones who make a personal connection with us, who
inspire us to learn and grow, and who make a lasting impact on our lives.

1. Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?
- Some personal traits that I possess include being kind, patient, and organized. On the other hand, I
struggle with being on time, being creative, not good communicator, and no confidence are the
traits I do not possess. To improve the traits that I do not possess, it’s important to be self-aware
and open to growth in order to possess these traits. – Trishia Mae Tipdas
- The personal traits that I possess is the ability to show empathy. I believe I have a strong ability to
connect with future students on a personal level. I’m good at understanding their feeling and helping
them learn by treating each one as unique. A Personal trait that I not possess is a good leadership.
So, I need improvement to work on my leadership skills because I’m not very confident in taking

- I possess strong communication skills. I excel in conveying ideas and concepts clearly, which is
essential for effective teaching. I do not possess patience under pressure. In challenging situations,
I find it difficult to maintain composure. Developing patience and stress management skills can

dynamics is a valuable trait I possess. I do not possess confidence in public speaking, which can

- The competencies that I need to develop is formulating Lesson plan, I need to become a teacher
who works hard to improve every day. I want to aim to learn something mew daily so that I can give

- A teacher who made learning fun and engaging by using interesting activities may be someone we
remember fondly. Or a teacher who took the time to get to know each student personally, and
