Detailed Lesson Plan in Science -4

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the student will be able to;

a. describe the effects of magnets,

b. identify magnetic and nonmagnetic objects,

c. characterize magnetic force.

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: Magnetic Force

b. Reference: Internet, textbooks pp. 158-160

c. Materials: Pictures, visual aid

d. Values Integration: Be curious about the things you experience every

day.

Activity- Magnetic Fishing Magnets Attracted to

Direction: Identify which materials magnets
will be attracted and repelled by the Dry cell Paper
magnet. Write your answer on your battery
answer sheet. Coin Pencil

Analysis

1. What materials are attracted to Nail, Metal bar, Stone, Coin

magnet?
Battery, Pencil, Protractor, Paper
2. Which materials are not attracted
to magnet?
Materials are attracted because
3. What does this mean about the opposite poles are attract, and
materials attracted or not attracted materials are not attracted
to magnet? because same poles are repel.

Abstraction
Magnets are objects that attract
certain metals. It is one of the
fundamental forces in nature and
are indeed incredibly important.
Magnets have been known for
centuries and used by many
different cultures. throughout this
time. Magnets have an invincible
magnetic field. It will not attract all
kinds of metals. Only metals made
of nickel, iron, and cobalt.

TYPES OF MAGNETS
-Rectangular Magnet
-Bar Magnet
-Ring Magnet
-Horseshoe Magnet
The end of the magnets is called
poles. A magnet has always both
north pole and south pole though
you break it. When we cut a magnet
into two parts two new magnets are
formed with a north and south pole.
When the poles of the magnets are
placed near each other, they have a
force that will either pull them or
push them apart. The push and pull
of the magnet are called magnetic
force.

OPPOSITE POLES ATTRACT

If the poles of a magnet are
different and placed near each
other, then they will be pulled
together or will attract each other.

SAME POLES REPEL

If the poles of a magnet are the
same and placed near each other,
then they will be pushed away or
will repel each other. The force of
attraction of a magnet is greater at
its poles than in the middle. The
magnetic field is the area around
the magnet where the magnetic
force of attraction or repulsion.
Application
Let’s have a short quiz. Get 1 piece Answers:
of paper and answer the following.

1. What is a magnet?
a) A type of rock that attracts all b) A material that attracts certain
metals metals
b) A material that attracts certain
metals
c) A device that produces electricity a) North and South

2. What are the two types of

magnetic poles?
a) North and South
b) East and West
c) Up and Down b) They repel each other

3. What happens when you bring

two North poles of magnets
together?
a) They attract each other
b) They repel each other a) They attract each other
c) Nothing happens

4. What happens when you bring a

North pole and a South pole of
magnets together?
a) They attract each other
b) They repel each other
c) Nothing happens c) Wood

5. Which of the following materials is

NOT attracted to a magnet?
a) Iron
b) Nickel
c) Wood
D. Generalization
What is magnet? Magnets are objects that attract
certain metals.

What are the 3 types of metals that Nickel, Iron, Cobalt

are attracted by a magnet?

Give at least 3 types of magnets. -Rectangular magnet

-Ring magnet
- Horseshoe magnet

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Write T if the statement is
TRUE and F if the statement is Answers:
FALSE. - TRUE
___1. All magnets have two poles, - TRUE
North and South poles. - TRUE
___ 2. If poles are different (one is a - FALSE
South Pole and one is a North Pole), - FALSE
then they will pull together or
attract each other.
___ 3. A magnetic force is the
attraction or repulsion between
substances made of certain
materials, such as iron, nickel and
cobalt.
___4. Magnets attract all objects.
___ 5. Magnets and its magnetic
force are not important and useless.
