Unofficial Gay Fates

Installation Guide

Hello there, and thank you for your interest in the Unofficial Gay Fates mod! I’m Lilith,
Corrin’s faithful attendant, and a guide for travelers of the Astral Planes—but today I’ll
be guiding you through the process of installing Unofficial Gay Fates, and if you’re
playing a version other than the North American Special Edition of Fates, the
accompanying Paralogue Unlocker code patch on either Luma (modded 3DS hardware)
or Citra (3DS emulator) instead.
Before we get started, make sure you have either your 3DS modded with the latest
version of Luma, or Citra installed on your device of choice. If you don’t already have
either of those ready, go do that first, please and thank you!
STEP 1: Downloading the Mods
Alrighty! First, go and download the latest release of Unofficial Gay Fates from the
Gamebanana page. The latest release will always be the first item in the list, like so:

If you’re using a version other than North American Special Edition, also grab the
Paralogue Unlocker! You’ll need this if you want same-sex pairings to have kids.
NOTE: Please use this revised version of the Paralogue Unlocker if you are using the
European Special Edition. The European versions on the Gamebanana page do not
work correctly, and Gen 2 units that would normally be siblings won’t count as such. The
revised version only works for Special Edition, so if you have European Birthright or
Conquest, please get a different version for the full experience!
If you’re still wet behind the ears when it comes to computer stuff, the “7z” and “zip” file
types these mods come as might be unfamiliar to you. They’re basically a special kind
of folder, packed up nice and tight to keep file sizes down and all the important files
inside of them safe. Almost like my Astral Plane! …Almost.
You’ll need a program to unzip—or extract—them, so that you can actually use the UGF
mod. Some operating systems are already capable of opening zip files, but my personal
recommendation is 7zip, it’s really handy—and it’s what I’ll be using for this guide!
STEP 2: Unzipping the Mods
Once you’ve downloaded UGF (as well as Paralogue Unlocker if applicable) and
installed 7zip, open up unofficial_gay_fates_(version number).7z. You can do this by
either double clicking on the file, or right clicking and selecting 7zip > Open Archive.
You’ll be greeted with a folder called “Unofficial Gay Fates (version)”, double click on
that and you’ll be met with these:

All you need to worry about for now is the Unofficial Gay Fates folder there. I’ll go over
the other things in Step 4, near the end of this guide!
Inside of the Unofficial Gay Fates folder, you’ll see a lot of folders with big numbers for
names! It’s enough to make my head spin… These are all the possible Title IDs for each
version of Fire Emblem Fates. You only need to look at the last 6 digits to know which
version you need. In alphabetical/numerical order, they are:

Drag and drop your version’s Title ID folder off to the side somewhere that you won’t
lose it. I’d recommend your desktop! Next, if you’re not using the USA Special
Edition, we’ll open up the “gay_fates_ips_patches.zip” you downloaded from the
Paralogue Unlocker page. It looks pretty similar to the above image, right? Go into the
Title ID folder for your version of the game, then take the “code.ips'' file out and put it in
the folder you just took out of the UGF download. (If using the EUR Special Edition
code.ips linked in Step 1, use that instead for this step!)
If you’re using the USA Special Edition, the 179800 folder already comes with our shiny
new code.ips that allows for custom endings (Courtesy of Tildehat and commissioned
by Sketchi!), and it’s already merged with Paralogue Unlocker as well!

All set? Next, we’ll move on to actually installing the mod! From here, the instructions
will differ slightly depending on what you’re playing Fates on. I’ll be covering the Citra
method first—since it’s a lot shorter—and then the Luma method after that!
STEP 3: Installing the Mods (Citra)
Installing mods on Citra is incredibly simple, so this will be short and sweet! First, open
up Citra and right click on your installed copy of Fire Emblem Fates. Then, click “Open
Mods Location”.

It should bring you to a folder with your version’s Title ID as the name. Open up the Title
ID folder you put on your desktop in the previous step, and then drag and drop the
romFS folder and code.ips file into your Citra’s mods folder. It should look like this when
you’re done:

And that’s it! UGF and the Paralogue Unlocker are installed and ready to go! Told you it
was easy!
For Linux Users: Change the capitalization of the romfs folder to romFS if the mod
doesn’t seem to be working for you. The Linux version of Citra is picky about
capitalization.
STEP 3: Installing the Mods (Luma)
Installing mods with Luma is pretty easy, but still has a few steps to it. First, open up
your modded 3DS SD card on your computer.

On your SD card, open the luma folder. Inside, there should be a folder called “titles”. If
there isn’t, please make a new folder and name it titles.

Next, open the titles folder, then drag and drop the Title ID folder you put on your
desktop (with the romfs folder and code.ips inside) into it.

Now put your SD card back into your 3DS. Hold the SELECT button while turning on
your 3DS to access the Luma configuration menu. Enable game patching, then press
START. Now you’re ready to play Fates with UGF installed!
STEP 4: Optional Content
Remember in Step 2 how I mentioned that I would cover the other folders in UGF’s
download? Those are optional files, such as extra add-ons or compatibility files for other
mods!

The optional add-ons are:

● Corrinsexual Rebalance - This changes growths and join stats for characters like
Reina, Yukimura, Shura, Flora, and so on. This is incompatible with the
compatibility patches, as well as Fully Working Supports Only. But it does come
with a Paragon import (Corrinsexual Rebalance.json) for easy merging with other
mods!
● Felicia/Jakob recruit faster - This makes Jakob or Felicia appear after chapter 7
of any route, instead of chapter 18. This is compatible with any of the
compatibility patches or other add-ons
● Flora Joins Early - Flora will join when she appears in the story, instead of
through My Castle later on. This is compatible with any of the compatibility
patches or other add-ons.
● …Corrin says I’m not allowed to say naughty words. B-but, this one is meant for
testing supports! It just makes all the paralogues Defeat Boss, and the boss is
right next to your army. I wouldn’t recommend it for a normal playthrough.
● Fully Working Supports Only Gamedata - What it says on the tin. This removes
all “empty” support entries (ones that haven’t been implemented or written yet).
It's very outdated currently, and it has a few glitches. It’s also incompatible with
any of the compatibility patches. Use at your own risk!
Compatibility Patches are pretty straightforward. You need to have the other mods
they are for installed as well (for example, Voice Select and Icon Project installed the
same way you just did for UGF), and then you install the Compatibility Patch files after,
replacing anything it asks you to. These are not the full mods, just the files that
conflict with UGF.
I should note, you can only use one compatibility patch, they cannot be used
together. Basically, if you overwrite one compatibility file with another, things aren’t
going to work very well.
If none of the compatibility patches cover what you’re looking for, you can also merge
your own mods together with this handy guide. UGF comes with a Paragon Imports
folder which has all you’d need to make your own compatibility patches for it.
Parting Words From Lilith
…And that’s it! Thank you for being such a good listener, and I hope you found my
guide helpful. Enjoy your time playing with the Unofficial Gay Fates mod! If you have
any further questions that my guide couldn’t answer, feel free to ask in the
#tech-support channel in the UGF Discord Server.
