Discussion Section Syllabus
Spring 2025
TA: Grant Harting
Contact: [email protected]
Course Requirements
Students are expected to come to class already having completed and ready
to discuss the lectures and readings each week. Students are expected to
attend the discussion section every week.
Attendance
Your Section attendance is a part of your final course grade. You are given
one unexcused absence.
To earn full attendance credit for each section, a student must be present for
the session for its duration.
Policies
Late Papers
Every student is given a no questions asked one time 24-hour extension.
Other extraneous circumstances must be cleared by Professor Busacca via
email ASAP.
Challenging a Grade
Students who wish to challenge a grade are required to submit a written
grievance to the Teaching Assistant, which includes the reasons for their
dissatisfaction with the grade received and what grade they believe is
merited. Reasons why the requested grade is merited should be included and
evidence from the assignment in question should justify this appeal. This
may only be done after a 24-hour cooling off period. This means that no
challenge to a grade will be reviewed until 24 hours after the grade has been
given. If after this period one still wishes to appeal one’s grade, the Teaching
Assistant reserves the right to issue a grade that is lower or higher than the
existing grade upon further review. This second, post-appeal decision is final.
The last day to challenge/change a grade is one week from being given the
grade. Participation and attendance grades are not subject to challenge and
any changes with regards to participation and attendance will be due to
exceptions being granted as outlined above.
Academic Integrity
Academic misconduct is defined at UCR as “any act that improperly distorts
(or could distort) a student’s grades or other academic records.” Extensive
additional information on what constitutes academic misconduct and
procedures for address it are available at the UCR Student Conduct and
Academic Integrity Program (SCAIP) website, at:
http://conduct.ucr.edu/policies/academicintegrity.html If you have any doubt
over what constitutes academic misconduct, please consult with me before
turning in any work in question.
Intellectual Property
All course materials (class lectures and discussions, examinations, and other
materials) and the intellectual content of the course itself are protected by
United States Federal Copyright Law and the California Civil Code. University
of California Policy 102.23 expressly prohibits students (and all other
persons) from recording lectures or discussions and from distributing or
selling lectures notes and all other course materials without the prior written
permission of the instructor (http://policy.ucop.edu/doc/2710530/PACAOS-
100). Students are permitted to make notes solely for their own private
educational use. Exceptions to accommodate students with disabilities may
be granted with appropriate documentation. In this course students are
forbidden from producing study guides and providing them to any person or
organization or posting them publicly.
SDRC
UC Riverside is committed to providing equal access to learning
opportunities to students with documented disabilities. To ensure access to
this class, and your program, please contact the Student Disability Resource
Center (SDRC) to engage in a confidential conversation about the process for
requesting accommodations in the classroom. More information can be found
at sdrc.ucr.edu. If you are a student registered with the SDRC, please ensure
you request your quarterly accommodations through rability.ucr.edu.
Exceptional Circumstances
Should an emergency arise, the student should attempt to contact the
Teaching Assistant as soon as possible. This must be done prior to class
unless the situation prevents even the act of contact. If students have
special concerns (e.g. needing to leave a cell phone on as they are caring for
a relative, or needing to leave early), these matters should be brought to the
attention of the Teaching Assistant as soon as possible so that
accommodations may be made.
*The contents of the syllabus are subject to change as they see fit. While
large changes are not to be anticipated, smaller changes may be made
depending on various circumstances.
