LIGHTING LOAD LAYOUT
COMPUTATION (Lighting Load)

A. Circuit 1 - for Lighting Load (Load per One Apartment Unit)

1. Determine the number of lighting outlets.

7 lighting outlets

P = 7 x 100 = 700 W

2. Determine the total current.

P = 700 I = 700/230 = 3.0435 A ≈ 4A

3. Determine the size of the conductor for Circuit 1.

2.00mm², TW copper wire = AWG#14

4. Determine the size of the conduit pipe.

Ф25mm conduit, PVC

5. Determine the size of the overcurrent protection.

15 A Breaker
POWER LOAD LAYOUT
COMPUTATION (Power Load)

B. Circuit 2 - for Small Appliance Load (Load per One Apartment Unit)

1. Determine the number of the convenience outlet

12 Convenience Outlets

2. Solve the total estimated load.

P = 12 x 2 x 180W = 4320 W

3. Determine the maximum expected current load.

I = 4320 / 230 = 18.78 A

4. Determine the size of the conductor wire.

3.5mm², copper THW, AWG #12

5. Determine the size of the conduit pipe

20mm Ф Conduit, PVC

6. Determine the size of the overcurrent protection.

30 A Breaker
C. Circuit 3 - for Other Load

1. Enumerate other loads.

REF = 1000
COOKING RANGE = 1500
WASHING MACHINE 1500

1000+1500+1500 = 4000 W

Circuit 4:
AIRCON = 1492 w
I = 1492 / 230 = 6.49 A ≈ 7A 3.5mm²

2. Compute for the current loads.

I = 4000/230 = 17.39 A

3. Determine the size of the conductor wire.

3.5mm², copper THW, AWG #12

4. Determine the size of the conduit.

20mm Ф Conduit, PVC

5. Determine the size of the over current protection.

30 A Breaker

Finding the Size of the Service Entrance

1. Solve for the total load current from all the circuits.

IT = 5.2174 + 18.78 + 17.39 + 6. 49 = 47.9 A

2. Apply 80% demand factor as permitted by the electrical code.

70x0.8 = 56 A 70 A
Breaker

3. Find the size of the service wire.

22mm², copper TW

4. Determine the size of the conduit pipe.

32mm Ф, PVC
LOAD SCHEDULE

COMPUTATION

For Circuit Number 1 and 2: Lighting Loads

“The Philippine Electrical Code provides that 100Watts be the maximum load per light outlet.”

Circuit Number 1:
P= 8 outlets X 100W= 800W
I = 800/230 = 3.47 A

Circuit Number2:
P= 7 outlets X 100W= 700W
I = 700/230 = 3.04 A

For Circuit Number 3 to 5 and 9: Other Loads

“The National Electrical Code provides that ampacity of the connected load shall not exceed
80% of the amperage capacity of the conductor and the fuse.” The maximum ampacity load of a
2.0 mm2 copper wire and 15 A, The breaker are30 A and 15 A respectively. 80% of 30 A and 15
A are 24 A and 12 A respectively. Therefore, for Circuit Number 1 and 2, the use of 2.0 mm2wire
and 15 AT breaker is safe. Also, for 2 pieces of 2.0 mm2wire, use 13 mm diameter of conduit
pipe.
Circuit Number 3: Refrigerator

P = 1000 W
I = 1000/230 = 4.35 A

Circuit Number 4: Range

P = 1500 W
I=1500/230=6.52A

Circuit Number 5: Spare

P = 1500 W
I = 1500/230= 6.52 A

Circuit Number 9: Spare

P = 1000 W
I = 1000/230= 4.35 A

For Circuit Number 6 to 8: Air-Conditioning Units

Article 67 of the Philippine Electrical Code provides that: “Branch circuit conductor supplying a
motor shall have an ampacity not less than 125% of the full load current.” Also, the code on
branch circuit protection for a single motor provides that: “It shall be increased by 250% of the
full load current of the motor.”

Circuit Number 6: ACU

P=1000W
I=1000/230= 4.35A

Circuit Number 7: ACU

P=1000W
I=1000/230= 4.35A

Circuit Number 8: ACU

P=1000W
I=1000/230= 4.35A
