Vstep 2-2
A recent study states that 58% of children use digital devices in the form of a tablet, phone,
computer, or TV at home. Many parents think their children learn more about violence
from TV than from any other source. Television was also cited for fostering bad habits by
glamorizing highly advertised junk foods and the frequent use of alcohol. Discuss the
benefits and drawbacks of watching TV.
On the one hand, people should recognize that watching TV brings a lot of benefits for young
people. To begin with, it is true that watching TV can help children reduce stress. For example,
after coming home from school, they can turn on TV to enjoy cartoons or comedy shows. When
doing so, they are able to have a lot of fun and blow off some steam after stressful lessons at
school. Moreover, we should not forget that watching TV is a good way for youngsters to gain
knowledge. In fact, when they watch educational programs such as The Olympia, World of
animals and so on, they can have a chance to learn a lot of valuable lessons. Added to this, it
helps childen to open their minds about the world.
On the other hand, besides the important advantages of watching TV, it has plenty of drawbacks.
Firstly, there is absolutely no doubt that watching TV makes children become more violent. The
reason is that when they watch action movies that have shooting scenes, they tend to copy them
and be easy easily to get angry. Secondly, it is undeniable that watching TV create a bad habit for
the young. In deed, they seem to be attracted by adverts about fast food and alcohol on TV;
therefore, they eat junk food which is high in fat and drink alcohol, which is high in fat and low
in nutrition and vitamins. As a result, they has a bad effect on their body.
