Control HMI User’s Guide Chapter 1: Introduction to Control HMI

Chapter 1: Introduction to Control HMI

Control HMI is a managed InTouch Application that is maintained and deployed from
the System Platform IDE. This chapter introduces and discusses the applications and
configurators accessible from Control HMI.

Typical Workflow
The typical workflow is:
1. Edit the Control HMI $Template from the System Platform IDE template toolbox.
2. Test changes to the $ControlHMI Template before deploying changes to operator
workstations. Open WindowMaker and click Runtime to test the changes locally
in the runtime environment. This does not require deployment.
3. Use the Control HMI Framer application to manage user and station-based
runtime layouts, user permissions, and general features and functionality. Control
HMI Framer settings are accessed from System Platform IDE. The $ControlHMI
template does not need to be opened in WindowMaker. Right-click the
$ControlHMI Template to open IDE.
4. When changes to Framer and the ControlHMI application are tested and checked
in, update operator workstations by redeploying the Control HMI instances on
each workstation.
5. Create and assign the instances to ViewApp Engines on each station.
6. Deploy instances of $ControlHMI template to operator workstations.
For read-only runtime, create an instance of the Read-Only View Engine and
deploy an instance of the Control HMI $Template.

12 B0750AQ, Rev Z
Chapter 1: Introduction to Control HMI Control HMI User’s Guide

NOTE:
• The Managed Control HMI Application supports the use of Industrial Graphics
and Situational Awareness (SA) Libraries.
• InTouch WindowMaker need not convert the application resolution when
opened in different resolutions. If the application is opened in a different
resolution, select No when asked whether to convert the application.
• To reduce application size, the managed application contains three sets of
Detail Displays. The five sets of Detail Displays that are not a part of the
default set are available in the workstation and can be imported back into the
HMI application.

Runtime Features
• Control HMI provides access to the running plant environment. Control HMI
includes windows for monitoring and servicing alarms, navigation windows for
accessing user-built content, windows for viewing historical alarms and process
values, and detail display windows for viewing and servicing control blocks
created in the DCS system.
• Navigation support for user-created windows and content.
• Historian Client Trend windows for accessing historical process values.
• Windows for reviewing and servicing alarms.
◦ Runtime - Process Alarms

blocks.

Configuration Features
Control HMI also includes a library of Industrial Graphics and templates for creating
process control windows, in addition to libraries and examples for customizing the
layout of the runtime Control HMI.
• You can create customized copies of Control HMI content to replace the default
Control HMI content. This includes:
◦ Modern UI headers and menus
◦ Industrial Graphic Detail Displays
◦ Alarm Panels
Control HMI and FoxView can communicate through the use of OM Variables.
• Use the ITCMD OM variables to communicate to the Control HMI.
• Use the DCCMD OM variables to communicate to the FoxView.
Control HMI supports the ability to run in Read-Only mode.
• An instance of the Control HMI can be deployed to a Read-Only View Engine.
• This instance is always Read-Only and requires a Read-Only license to run.

Control Core Services Hardware

Your Control Core Services system can include these hardware items:
• Foxboro Fieldbus modules, fieldbus processors, and power modules
• Legacy modular industrial workstations
• Personal workstations (PWs, not laptops)
• Application workstations
• Multi-monitor workstations
• Pointing devices, including mice, trackballs, or touchscreens
• Printers
• Annunciator keyboards
• Data storage devices
Workstations can support:
• Four annunciator keyboards
• Four annunciator keyboard horns

14 B0750AQ, Rev Z
Chapter 1: Introduction to Control HMI Control HMI User’s Guide

• Two console horns

Multi-monitor Workstations
A Control Core Services workstation can support multiple monitors. The Control HMI
supports one, two, or four monitor setups. For more information, see Framer and
Alarm Management User’s Guide (B0750AR).
When configuring for multiple monitors, the AVEVA Intouch HMI requires these
conditions to be met. Any deviation might have unexpected results on the appearance
and layout of the Control HMI.
• All monitors must have the same desktop resolution.
• Monitor 1 must be the top and left most monitor. Additional monitors are
numbered from left to right, then top to bottom.
• The Wonderware Win.ini file, for each user account, must have the InTouch
multiscreen setting set to 1.
When configured for multi-monitor operation, standard monitors share a single
keyboard and pointing device, and the cursor moves from one screen to the other
screen.

Monitor Resolutions
The Control HMI supports 1920x1080 desktop resolution. When migrating from an
older system, you can choose to continue using the older Control HMI user interface,
which also supports 1280x1024 desktop resolution.

Control Software 7.x Migration Support for Legacy Control

HMI User Interface
The Control HMI has a modernized UI and modern UI features. the modernized UI
only support widescreen 1920x1080 resolution.
You can choose to continue to use the legacy UI. However, the modern UI features
are not supported. The legacy UI style continues to support both widescreen and
legacy 4:3 screen resolutions.
The legacy style Control HMI UI supports two different resolutions. This is
accomplished through the definition of station styles. All workstations and remote
terminals must be assigned to a style. By default, all stations belong to the default
style of the install application. No additional configuration is needed. Stations that are
not using the default style are the only stations that need to be configured.
See Framer and Alarm Management User’s Guide (B0750AR) for details on
configuring styles and StyleGroups.
The Control HMI application defaults to widescreen station style.
With stations styles you can:
• Place 4:3 formatted windows on each monitor.
• Customize menu extensions and function bars for each monitor.
• Define detail display locations.
• Add custom features to station styles.

B0750AQ, Rev Z 15
Control HMI User’s Guide Chapter 1: Introduction to Control HMI

Control HMI also supports migrated windows from legacy 4:3 applications and the
ability to display widescreen formatted windows. All windows must be assigned to a
window style. By default, all windows belong to the default style of the application.
Windows that are not using the default style are the only windows that require
configuring. See Framer and Alarm Management User’s Guide (B0750AR) for details
on configuring WinStyles and window assignments.
Key Window Style Features:
• Automatic placement of 4:3 formatted windows on each monitor.
• Automatic user notification when viewing 16:9 windows on 4:3 stations.
• Custom features for window styles.

Configurators
Use these configurators to create and configure Control HMI functions and create and
configure content for display on the Control HMI:
• Industrial Graphic Symbol Editor
• WindowMaker
• Control HMI Framer

Industrial Graphic Symbol Editor

The Industrial Graphic Symbol Editor is a modern design tool used to create symbol
library components and larger full process display level symbols. We recommend that
all runtime windows are built as Industrial Graphic Symbols. Graphic symbols have
additional benefits compared to creating process windows using the WindowMaker
application:
• Support newer technologies and security
• Easier to create and maintain
• Support multiple users creating symbols at the same time
• Automatic migration
• True link and propagation of change support
To view Industrial Graphic Symbols in the Control HMI, they must be embedded into a
WindowMaker window.

WindowMaker
The Control HMI is an InTouch HMI View application that is created and maintained by
the InTouch WindowMaker Software. This tool is used to create additional process
windows that can be accessed through the Control HMI framework and navigation
browser.
We recommend to first create the process window as a single industrial graphic. From
the WindowMaker, create a new window and link, or embed, the Industrial Graphic
Symbol into the InTouch window. Additionally, windows can be arranged and
organized into different folders that represent different plants, areas, or equipment.
The Control HMI’s Framer application can be used to set access permission on
windows and folders created in WindowMaker. It can also be used to change the
Control HMI runtime layout and functionality for different users and workstations.

16 B0750AQ, Rev Z
Chapter 1: Introduction to Control HMI Control HMI User’s Guide

Framer
Use the Control HMI Framer tool to configure the general functions of the user
experience. You can create and deploy different configurations to different
workstations. To launch Framer from the IDE, right-click Control HMI $Template in
the Template Toolbox, then click Framer.
Use Framer configurations to:
• Create navigation treeviews and assign the user location based access.
• Assign windows to the Control HMI’s navigation panel. The navigation panel
monitors the assigned alarm states of windows and communicates the alarm
state to the main Control HMI user interface.
• Assign windows and alarm tags to hardware annunciator keys and to the
navigation panel.
• Create alarm queries used by the Alarm Server to monitor the alarms received by
the station.
• Configure role-based permissions for accessing Control HMI features.
• Override the default graphics used in the Control HMI user interface. This
includes alarm panels and the main Control HMI user interface header.
• Define different monitor layout configurations.
• Assign created configurations to different workstations and groups.

Read-Only Mode
Control Software contains a Read-Only View Engine. Instances of Control HMI that
are deployed to this View Engine will run in Read-Only mode. When in Read-Only
mode:
• There is no access to the Tools menus and applications such as BlockSelect and
PLB Monitor.
• Users cannot acknowledge alarm or silence and mute horns.
• Alarm Panel actions for managing alarm states are disabled.
• Writing to all external connections are disabled.
• All permissions related to Alarm Management, writing data, or accessing tools are

Chapter 3: Using Control HMI Control HMI User’s Guide

Chapter 3: Using Control HMI

When using Control HMI, you might not have access to all application menu entries.
Menu access permissions are configured with the Framer application.

Starting Control HMI

Control HMI runs on Control Software operator and engineering workstations that
have Control Core Services installed and meet the minimum system requirements as
described in the release notes.
Control HMI is automatically started when a user logs into the Operator workstation.
Control HMI runs in the AVEVA InTouch WindowViewer application. Users must log
into the Control HMI to access most features. If the Control HMI is configured to OS
User or OS Group mode security, the Control HMI will automatically attempt to log in
the current OS User. See the Configuration properties in Framer and Alarm
Management User’s Guide (B0750AR).
• If Control HMI does not start automatically, verify that the AVEVA InTouch
Application Manager shows a deployed Control HMI and that it is selected.
• To manually launch Control HMI, go to:Start > Foxboro DCS Control Software
> View and Alarm Server.
• If Control HMI still does not start, verify Control HMI is selected in Start > AVEVA
InTouch HMI > Application Manager. Select the Control HMI and launch the
WindowViewer.
When started from a client workstation or on a server designated console session,
Control HMI will launch the Control HMI’s Alarm Server. Alarm Server monitors alarms
that the station receives by using queries and settings that are configured in the
Control HMI’s Framer application. The Alarm Server is responsible for sounding alarm
horns, managing annunciator alarm states, managing the Control HMI Process and
System alarm status, and showing configured window alarm states in the Control HMI
Navigation panel.
NOTE: When running the Control HMI from a remote session, the Process and
Systems status indicator might appear in the cyan state. This might be due to the
Alarm Server not starting on the console session. Review the OCMC logs for
information messages.

Configuring Security and Role Permissions

• Configure Galaxy Security from the AVEVA System Platform.
Navigate to Galaxy > Configure > Security.
• Enable security and security authentication settings. Control HMI Security
settings are configured from Framer Configuration.
Control HMI Security settings must match Galaxy security settings. Otherwise,
operators logging in will not have the same settings.
• Configure role permissions in Framer Permissions.
Control HMI features are permitted based on the roles of the logged in operator.
For information about configuring security for the system platform and Control HMI,
see Framer and Alarm Management User’s Guide (B0750AR).

Control HMI User’s Guide Chapter 3: Using Control HMI

Logging in to Control HMI

To log in manually, click the Operator icon in the upper right corner of the Control HMI
header, or turn on Menus and select Login from the File Menu.

The Control HMI Login dialog box appears.

1. Enter the domain if using a domain controller. Do not enter a domain name if
running in a local workgroup.
2. Enter your username and press Enter.
3. Enter your password and press Enter. If the user password is empty, click Login.

Control HMI will attempt to login when the password is entered. The dialog box will
automatically close if the login is successful. Otherwise, an unsuccessful attempt
message will appear.
If log in is not successful, open the OCMC Logger to review messages.

Running Control HMI and FoxView on the Same Workstation

You can configure Control HMI and FoxView to run on the same workstation.
However, a workstation can run only one alarm subsystem. Decide which alarm
management subsystem to use and configure the system by using the Common
Configurator. For more information, see Control Software v8.0 Installation Guide
(B0750TP).
These Control HMI features are affected when the FoxView alarm system is
configured to run:
• Alarm panels will no longer show alarms receive by the local workstation. The
Alarm Panel queries can be configured in Framer to view alarms received by
other stations. Please note that the Process and System button alarm states are
connected to the local station and may not be in sync with alarms shown in the
alarm panel.

28 B0750AQ, Rev Z
Chapter 3: Using Control HMI Control HMI User’s Guide

• Control HMI Framer cannot be used to configure Horns and Annunciator panels.
You need to use FoxView tools and utilities to configure Horns and Annunciators.
Annunciator panels and horns will be managed at runtime through FoxView and
the Alarm Manager displays.
• Control HMI Framer cannot be used to configure InTouch windows associated
with alarms. This feature is used in Annunciator panel configuration and when
selecting an alarm in the Alarm Panels to open the associated user display.
• Remote Desktop Server Clients (or Thin Clients) have to use the same
configured alarm subsystem as the Server station.
• Control HMI System and Process Alarm indicators will continue to show current
alarm states.
• ITCMD and DMCMD OM (Object Manager) variables are used to send supported
commands between FoxView and Control HMI. For instance, a button in FoxView
can be configured to open Control HMI windows in the WindowViewer. This
command will open “MyWindow” and then opens an AIN Detail Display faceplate
for “MY.AIN” in the Control HMI InTouch application:
ITCMD = “showwin MyWindow; stddisp MY.AIN AIN”
ITCMD and DMCMD OM (Object Manager) variables are used to send supported
commands between FoxView and the Control HMI.

Sending Commands to FoxView

1. To temporarily connect the Control HMI runtime to FoxView, add a tagname to the
Control HMI Watch Panel to create a connection.
In this example:

HY1W03 is the virtual machine (VM) name where Control HMI is running.
DMCMDis the command to send instructions from Control HMI to FoxView.
2. Launch the display in FoxView from Control HMI using the command stddisp
<COMPOUND:BLOCK>.
In this example:

Stddisp is the command to launch the faceplate.

COMPND1 is the compound name.
AIN is the block name.
Here is an example of an AIN block faceplate that was launched from the Control
HMI.

Historian Trends
The historian trends panel is used to view historical data from the AVEVA Historian.
Only points being historized can be added to these trends. Up to four historian trends
can be shown at the same time. There are four window sizes to select from which can
be shown in several different locations:
• Small - 1/6 the screen in the:
◦ Upper left or right of the program window
◦ Middle left or right of the program window
◦ Lower left or right of the program window
• Medium - 1/3 screen in the top, middle or bottom of the window
• Large - 2/3 screen in the top or bottom of the window
• Full window
You can create named sets of points to be displayed within the trend. For more
information on AVEVA Historian trending functionality, see the AVEVA user
documentation.

Using the Historian Client Trends for the First Time

After you install Control HMI and open any window with a Historian Client Control for
the first time, a system message might appear. For example, if you open the Historian
Client Application for the first time, a message might appear informing you that you do
not have permission to load the required support entities.

The application properly configures the support entities only if you log in with SQL
administrator privileges. Once configured, SQL administrator privileges are not
required.
When an AVEVA Historian Client application or trend connects to an AVEVA Historian
Server, it validates the presence of required client control support in the Runtime
database (for example, stored procedures and tables). If the supporting entities are
not found, the user must log into the Historian Server with an account that has SQL
administrator privileges. This can be done from the Historian Client Trend application.
1. Right-click the Trend Control and from the menu, select Tools > Servers.
The Server List Configuration dialog appears.

2. Select or Add the Historian Server Name.

3. Switch the Login mode from Windows Integrated to SQL Login.
4. Enter the SQL Administrator credentials.

B0750AQ, Rev Z 43
Control HMI User’s Guide Chapter 3: Using Control HMI

5. Click Update to update the Server configuration.

6. Click LogOn to connect the server and install the required components.
7. Verify that the trend connects to the server and tags can be seen.
After the initial setup is complete, SQL administrator privileges are no longer
required.

Removing the SQL Administrator Login

1. Re-open the Server List Configurator.
2. Select the server in the server list and click LogOff
3. Change the Login back to Windows Integrated
4. Click Update to save the changes.
5. Select the server in the server list and click LogOn
NOTE: It might take 1-2 minutes to complete this initialization process when a
AVEVA Historian Client control window is opened for the first time after a
system reboot. There are no initialization delays in opening subsequent
control windows after the first window is opened. To improve first time call up,
see Appendix A: Keyboard Shortcuts, page 183.
During migration, if your legacy application uses a AVEVA Historian Client control
that only uses a user login (for example, through a script), and the AVEVA
Historian Client server-side support has not yet been configured for the historian
database, it is possible that no administrative logon prompt appears after you
migrate the application to a newer version. Therefore, verify that you have logged
into the AVEVA Historian Server at least once as administrator using an
application, such as AVEVA Historian Client Trend.

Table 9 - Pen Scale Options for Selected Tag

Item Description
Automatically scales the value axis range to reflect the actual data
currently being displayed for the trend. For example, if the default
value axis range is 0 to 3000, and the data ranged from 1827 to
2059, the scale might be automatically adjusted to a range of 1800
to 2100. The adjusted scale does not exactly match the actual
minimum and maximum data values for the chart. The calculation
rounds the values so as to make the chart easier to read. Also, a
percentage allocation is added to the final values so that the
adjusted scale fits within the boundaries of the trend chart.
Autoscale Tag Therefore, the adjusted scale will be a round number slightly
above the actual data values. You can automatically scale a single
tag or all of the tags in a trend. For information on resetting scale
back to the original default, see Returning Tags to Their Original
Scale. Autoscaling is not performed continually for a trend. Also, if
the trended data includes points outside of the scale region, an
indicator ( ) is displayed to remind you to perform a second
autoscale operation.
Scales the selected tag up. It doubles the tag's scale. For
example, if the scale is 0 to 20, it becomes 0 to 40.
Move Tag Up
Scales the selected tag down. It halves the tag's scale. For
example, if the scale is 0 to 20, it becomes 0 to 10.
Move Tag Down

The values in the “Timeouts in seconds” field in the dialog has to be set to your
desired values. The default timeout for queries is two minutes. The WindowViewer
application collects data from the server every cycle. If the server is busy or it
disconnects, WindowViewer will try to reestablish communications with the server for
two minutes before timing out. All other window updates and actions will be
suspended until the two minutes timeout expires.
• Connection is the connection timeout in seconds between 1 and 600.
• Query is the query timeout in seconds between 1 and 600.

CAUTION
RISK OF OPERATOR CONTROL LOSS
The WindowViewer application will freeze if the Historian Server is not connected
and a window with a Historian Client Control is opened or is opening. The
WindowViewer application will freeze until this timeout setting expires, or the
Historian Server is connected. When configuring timeout settings, it is
recommended that you set the range to 5-20 seconds to minimize the duration of
timeouts when the connection to the Historian Server is broken.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in operator control loss.

Industrial Graphic Detail Displays

There are several notable differences between the Industrial Graphic and InTouch
style Detail Displays. The most notable difference is when looking at Detail Views from
the main Detail Display symbol.
• The Detail View is a separate window that opens next to the main Detail Display
window.
• Detail Displays and Detail Views can be set to resizable windows from the Control
HMI’s preference dialog box.
• Trend windows show real time and historical data and are resizable.
• All long text values are available in the Industrial graphic displays.
• More information and easier navigation.
• Industrial Graphic windows also support window pan and zoom features.

Chapter 4: Control HMI Alarm Management Control HMI User’s Guide

Chapter 4: Control HMI Alarm Management

Control HMI comes with a set of menus, toolbars, and windows that allow users to
interact with alarms. It includes:
• Process Alarm Status Button for show the current process alarm state and
accessing the Process Alarm Panel.
• System Alarm Status Button for show the current system alarm state and
accessing the recent events and message in the System Alarm Panel.
• The header also includes information about the alarm providers that are send
alarms to the workstation. Information includes the status of the provider as well
as alarm counts. If a station has a configured redundant provider, two alarm
providers will be listed. Select a provider to see its alarm counters.
• Control HMI’s Alarm menu provides access to runtime and historical alarm
panels.

Alarm Queries
Alarm panels use a query that collects a set of records from an alarm source. Each
type of alarm panel has its own set of alarm queries. The alarm queries are logically
assigned to the different alarm panels based on what is in the query. For example, the
Device Condition Alarm panel is designed to view alarm records provided by the
Fieldbus Alarm Provider. Any alarm query that collects alarms from the Fieldbus
Alarm provider are assigned to the Device Condition Alarm Panel.
The alarm panels also have the ability to view different types of alarm messages.
When the alarm panel is in Summary mode, the alarm panel shows alarms that are
currently active. When in Historical or Event mode, the alarm panels show a limited list
of the most recent event or alarm messages that have been received by the Alarm
Provider. Default alarm queries that are configured in Framer include the type of
messages to be shown. The type of message also determines where a query is

B0750AQ, Rev Z 91
Control HMI User’s Guide Chapter 4: Control HMI Alarm Management

assigned. For example, any default query that is configured for Historical messages
will be assigned to the System alarm panel.
The alarm query can contain one or more alarm provider queries, each separated by a
space. The format of a query is:
\\Node:0\Provider1\Group \\Node:0\Provider2\Group
\\Node:0\Provider3\Group
• Node is the name of the station where the alarm provider is deployed and must
include the ‘:0’ suffix
• Provider is the name of the Alarm Provider that is collecting alarm messages.
• Group is the name of the Area or Group of alarms to be shown.
Queries that are defined in Framer or saved at runtime can be selected at runtime in
each alarm panel. Each alarm panel shows the list of queries that is appropriate for
that panel. The criteria for determining which queries are presented with each alarm
panel are listed in this table.

Runtime Alarm Panels

The alarm panels provide the operator an interface to the alarm subsystem. The
CHMI provides three types of runtime alarm panels and one historical alarm panel for
reviewing different types of alarms, messages, and events. Many of the details
explained in this section applies to both, runtime and historical, alarm panels.
• Process Alarm Panel – Accessed from the Process Button or the View drop
down menu. It is used for reviewing current process alarms.
• System Alarm Panel – Accessed from the System Button or the View drop down
menu. It is used for reviewing recent system and process alarm messages and
events.
• Device Condition Panel – Accessed from the View drop down menu. This panel
is used to review device condition messages that come from configured Fieldbus
Alarm Providers. Several runtime features are not available on this panel.
You can configure the runtime alarm panels to automatically apply a custom filter
when the panel is opened. For example, a filter can be applied to show only priority 1 -
3 alarms.
You can individually customize each Alarm Panel Graphic to have different columns,
colors, settings, and queries. The different panels have the same basic layout. The
available actions and menus depend on the type of panel. The basic panel layout is
shown here.

For information about the AVEVA Alarm Client Control, see the AVEVA user
documentation.

Queries
The alarm panel can have only one alarm query active. The query retrieves all
messages from one or more Alarm Providers. The CHMI alarm Panel supports two
ways to create queries in the CHMI Alarm Panels.
• The Tools action bar which uses Alarm Provider format.
• The alarm control's Query and Filter Favorites dialog that uses SQL Alarm
Query format.
Both formats have the same basic requirements. Each provider query must include
Node, Provider, and Group. These fields do not support the usage of wildcards.
Example formats are:

B0750AQ, Rev Z 127

Control HMI User’s Guide Chapter 4: Control HMI Alarm Management

Alarm Provider Format

• Single alarm provider query string:

• Multiple alarm provider query string:

Alarm Query Format

Alarm Queries support more than just Tagname in the query. They can include any
additional column value:

Filters
One or more filters can be applied to the alarm panel to refine the messages that are
retrieved by the main alarm query. Filters are only applied to the message that are
returned by the main alarm query. Filters do not require a Node, Provider, or Group.
The Alarm Provider Format does not support or show filters. The CHMI alarm panel
supports two workflows for creating Filters:
• The FILTERS action bar which uses SQL Alarm Query format
• The alarm control's Query and Filter Favorites dialog that uses SQL Alarm
Query format
Filters have the same format as Alarm Queries, but do not require Node, Provider, and
Group settings: <ColumnName> <Condition> <Value>

128 B0750AQ, Rev Z

Chapter 4: Control HMI Alarm Management Control HMI User’s Guide

Wildcards
Alarm Provider Format
When modifying the Alarm Provider String in the Tools Action Bar, only the "*" wildcard
is supported in the beginning or end of the Tagname value. It does not support more
than one wildcard, or the use of wildcards in the middle of the value.
Supported Alarm Provider Strings with Tagname:
• \\AW0001:0\IASeries!$System!CMP.BLK.ALMNAME
• \\AW0001:0\IASeries!$System!C*
• \\AW0001:0\IASeries!$System!*NAME

Alarm Query and Filter Format

There is more flexibility when creating Alarm Queries, or Filters, from the Alarm
Control’s Query and Filter dialog or Filter Action Bar. The Alarm Query Format
supports any number of additional fields, not only Tagname. Each field supports using
the "%" wildcard at the beginning, end, or both ends of the value. It does not support
wildcards in the middle of the value. When using Wildcards, you must use the "Like" or
"Not Like" conditions.
Supported Alarm Provider Strings with Tagname:
• Tagname = ‘CMP.BLK.ALMNAME’
• Tagname Like ‘CMP%’
• Tagname Like ‘%NAME’
• Tagname Like ‘%BLK%’

Alarm Recovery and Redundancy

You can configure alarm provider redundancy for SCD6000 controllers to increase the
availability of the alarm subsystem. Consider enabling this option to allow the backup
alarm provider to recover the alarms database from the main alarm provider during
startup. This helps ensure that the backup alarm provider is always current with the
active alarms database, and ready to act as the main alarm provider if the current
main alarm provider is shut down, rebooted, or encountered a loss of power.
You must configure the SCD6000 controller to deliver alarms to both the Main Alarm
Provider and the Backup Alarm Provider. It helps ensure that alarms are always
delivered to both alarm providers from the source controller. This is required for
redundant alarm providers.

Chapter 5: Block Select

Block Select (the Compound and Block Overview window) provides a
representation of control databases.
Use Block Select to:
• Bring detail displays into Control HMI.
• Turn ON and OFF compounds and their associated blocks.
• Expand a list of the network’s stations and compounds, revealing the hierarchical
structure of the control database.
• View a list of blocks within all connected stations, and sort the list by different
criteria.
Access Block Select from the Control HMI Quick Access Toolbar or from the Control
HMI Utilities menu.
The Block Select window provides two views:

Command Description
Station View A scrollable hierarchical view of stations and
compounds on the left panel and a list of blocks for
the selected compound on the right panel
For more information, see Viewing the Control
Database, page 151.
Block View A scrollable and sortable list of blocks within all
connected stations.
For more information, see Viewing the Block List,
page 151.

The data in Station View and Block View are not updated until you perform a
Refresh operation on the stations.
NOTE: Block Select only provides data that has been downloaded to the Control
Station. It does not include the Strategy hierarchy because strategies are not part
of the Control database.

Station View
The database is organized by stations, compounds, and blocks. The database can be
viewed by placing Block Select in Station View. The stations and compounds
appear on the left panel of the screen, while the blocks for the selected compound
appear on the right panel.

Stations in the Database

When you open the Block Select window for the first time after installation, only the
stations appear. Each station, represented by a station icon, indicates its connection
status.

Interfacing with Control HMI

Access for turning compounds ON or OFF is based on the current state of Control
HMI. If turning compounds ON and OFF is protected in Control HMI, this capability is
protected in Block Select.
NOTE: If you enable Control HMI access in , you need to restart Block Select to
read the new access information.
Turning compounds ON and OFF is performed by the associated Control HMI. Block
Select sends a message to the associated Control HMI. The Block Select window is
not updated with new ON/OFF status information until all the compounds have been
processed by Control HMI.
Since turning compounds ON and OFF is through Control HMI, these actions are
subject to the logging properties and security of that instance of Control HMI. The
action will be logged by the Platform object for the workstation, if the Platform object
has been configured as an Alarm Provider.
When running multiple Control HMI sessions, be aware that Block Select
communicates with Control HMI from which it was called.
For more information on configuring access to Block Select, see Framer and Alarm
Management User’s Guide (B0750AR).

8. Save and close the Framer.

Navigation
The navigation section contains two settings that control the way:
• The operator navigates the electrical data.
• The amount of data shown in the grid area.

The States View deployed data contains two structured pieces of data that is used to
organize the electrical devices. These pieces of data are used to build two hierarchical
views in the Navigation pane. Operators can select the different views by selecting
from the top drop-down list. This setting is available on the ribbon and command bars.

Figure 16 - States View Ribbon Bar Navigation Drop-down List

Figure 17 - States View Command Bar Navigation Drop-down List

The Electrical Address view is constructed from the values found in the deployed
ORIGIN data column. For example:
ORIGIN: Substation_38EQI / LV_Bench1 / SCD6000 / ATV001

B0750AQ, Rev Z 169

Control HMI User’s Guide Chapter 6: States View

The IEC Address view is constructed from the values found in the deployed
GATEWAY and IEDNAME data. Using the same device information from the previous
example:

IEDNAME SCD_6K
GATEWAY SCD_6KSCD6K/GGIO3$ST$Ind1$stVal

The IEDNAME is separated from the gateway value and the $ information is removed.
This is used to create the hierarchical view. SCD_6K / SCD6K / GGIO3

The Page Size option allows the operator to change the number of items per page in
the grid. It is only available from the States View ribbon bar.

When working with a very large deployed database, performance can slow down. On
a pristine system with 100k records, the time to change pages, sort or filter, takes 3 to
5 seconds when the page size is at 1000. The operator can use this setting to reduce
the page size if performance has slowed.
This option is also useful if the default page size is configured to 250, and the operator
wants to export 1000 records with live values. The operator can change the setting to
increase the number of live values in the current page.

Special CSV Characters

There is only one special character that can impact the exported CSV files. Grid filters
that use the In List option contain one or more commas.
For example:
InList(“SCD100”,”SCD200”,”SCD300”)
These commas are directly used by .csv files to separate column values. When
found, these commas are converted to a special format.

Performance Consideration
Deployed Data Size Recommendations
The size of the deployed database impacts the performance of the States View panel
and the Control HMI. Actions such as filtering, sorting, and paging slow down for
large deployed databases. With 1000 records per page, the time taken to complete an
action is approximately:

Performance Deployed Data Size Time taken for an Action

Best Performance Less than 10,000 1 - 3 seconds
Moderate Performance Less than 50,000 2 - 5 seconds
Worst Performance Max 100,000 4 - 7 seconds

While executing different user actions, the Control HMI and States View panel is
unresponsive until the action is completed. The Windows Operating System marks
the Control HMI as unresponsive if the action takes longer than 5 seconds.
NOTE: When working with large deployed databases, consider reducing the page
size to improve performance.

B0750AQ, Rev Z 181

Control HMI User’s Guide Chapter 6: States View

Page Size Reduction to Improve Performance

There are many factors that can impact the performance of a workstation, Control
HMI, or paging through the States View data. This includes network issues in the
controllers, active background tasks such as virus scans, and the size of the States
View deployed data.
When working with large sets of deployed data (tens of thousands), the States View
might slow down while sorting, filtering, and paging through the data. Changing a
page could take 3 to 4 seconds. There are several supported options. The best
performing option is a page size of 250 values.
The default page size is 1000 data records and values. The default page size can be
configured in Control HMI Framer, or it can be modified at runtime by selecting a
small page size from the States View ribbon bar.

Windows with Historian Trend Control Takes Too Long to

Open for the First Time
Historical trends can take a long time to open on some systems where the Internet is
not connected. Scratchpad trend windows or custom windows that contain a Historian
Trend ActiveX Control takes several minutes to appear when opened for the first time.
This is common on workstations in a secure network with no Internet access. The
ActiveX control cannot validate publisher certificates through the Internet and times
out.

Solution 1: Disable an Internet Explorer Security Option

This is a global solution that applies to all applications that validate publisher
certificates over the Internet.
NOTE: This solution only applies to workstations that are not connected to the
Internet.
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools > Internet Options. The Internet Options dialog appears.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Scroll down to the Security settings.

5. Clear the Check for publisher's certificate revocation checkbox.

6. Click OK.

Solution 2: Modify the WindowViewer Configuration File

This is applicable to specific applications only and need not be used as a global
setting.
1. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the InTouch installation folder D:
\Program Files\Wonderware\InTouch.
2. Open the view.exe.config file in Notepad.
The file appears as shown:
