Lesson Plan in Science 6

Third Grading Period
Lesson 7: Energy (Energy Transformation from mechanical energy)
I. OBJECTIVES:
A. Content Standard
The learners how energy is transformed in other energy.
B. Performance Standard
The learners should be able to create a marketing strategy for new product
frommechanical energy to other forms of energy.
C. Learning Competency
The learners should be to demonstrate how mechanical energy can be transformed.
(S6FE-IIIc-d-2)
Objective:
At the end of the teaching-learning activity at least 75% should be able to
achieve
- Describe how mechanical energy transforms to other forms.
- Cite an example of mechanical energy to other forms of energy.
- Appreciate thatmechanical energy can be transformed to other forms to
make it more useful.

II. CONTENT
Topic: Transformation of Energy (Mechanical Energy)

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References:

B. Other Learning Resources
Pictures, activity sheet, chart, video
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Science News – conservation of energy
B. Reviewing of Previous Lesson
Look at the pictures. Identify what form of energy is used.

1.
2.

C. Establishing a purpose for the lesson:

Guessing Game: Pupil will guess what object is shown
(Example: car, sewing machine, train)
D. Presenting examples/instances of the lesson:
Short video clip
(https://youtu.be/6i1T_2BobUQ) –Transformation of Energy
E. Activity:
Divide the pupil into 3groups
Group 1 – Mechanical energy to heat energy
What you need: Dry Bamboo Sticks
What To Do:
a. Get two pieces of dry bamboo sticks. Feel the temperature of the whole
stick. What temperature do they have?
b. Rub the two sticks together at the hard side. Then, feel the portion where
two sticks are rubbed. What have you observed?
Group 2 – Mechanical energy to sound energy
What you need: Hammer
What to do: Hammering a nail.
Group 3 – Mechanical energy to electrical energy
What you need: empty plastic bottle, electrical wires, bulb, and bicycle
dynamo
What to do: Connect a bicycle dynamo or generator to a bulb in a holder.
Use electrical wires to connect the two materials. Turn the
handle of the dynamo and observe what happens to the bulb?
F. Discussing new concepts and practicingnew skills #1
Group Report
Sharing of results
G. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2
What energy transformation occurred when rubbing two sticks?
What happen to the hammer after you hammered the nail?
What happens to the bulb when the handle of the dynamo is turned?
Can we change one form of energy into another form? What other forms of energy
can be transformed from mechanical energy? Why transformation of energy is
important?
H. Developing Mastery
See which toy is the fastest
What kind of energy must be added to make the toys move?
Describe the possible energy transformations that can occur.
I. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living
A transfer from one type of energy to another type - like from mechanical
to chemical, what transformation can occur in your body as you eat food?
J. Making Generalizations
a. Describe how mechanical energy is transferred.
b. How do you know that the energy is transferred?
c. What are the other forms of energy transferred from mechanical
energy?

Background Information for the teacher.

Mechanical energy is transferred in three basic ways: by linkage; by direct
contact between surfaces; or by wrapping.
By a linkage such as the cars of trains. As the train engine moves, it pulls the
other cars linked to it.
By direct contact between surfaces such as gear teeth or a cam and follower.
The hour, minute, and second-hand of a clock move because of the direct contract
between their gears.
By a wrapping connector such as a belt, rope, or chain. A sewing machine a
belt that connects the machine’s head to the foot. As the foot is moved, the motion
is transferred to the head.

K. Evaluating Learning
Multiple Choice: Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1. Which of the following shows the mechanical-sound energy change?
a. Rice cooker c. alarm clock
b. Flat iron d. oven toaster
2. What energy transformation does train show?
a. Mechanical energy to electrical energy
b. Electrical energy to sound energy
c. Chemical energy to light energy
d. Thermal energy to heat energy
3. Which of the following shows the mechanical-radiant energy transformation?
a. Nuclear power c. spark generator
b. Solar cell d. candle
4. Alden is playing the string of the guitar. What transformation of energy show in
playing guitar?
a. Mechanical energy to nuclear energy
b. Mechanical energy to light energy
c. Mechanical energy to heat energy
d. Mechanical energy to sound energy

5. Rubbing hand is an example of mechanical energy. What energy can be

produced by rubbing two hands?
a. Electrical energy c. Mechanical energy
b. Heat energy d. Sound energy

L. Additional activities for application or remediation

a.Enrichment
What are the modes of transferring mechanical energy from one body to
the other body?
b. Remediation
Give example of objects that transform from mechanical energy to heat
energy.
c. Reinforcement
Draw objects that transform from mechanical energy to other forms of
energy.
