vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension

Highlights of the
Activity & The Project MCS (Mentoring and Coaching Struggling
Discussion Learners) is a literacy intervention program of Mayorga
Central School, which aims to achieve effective instruction
to bridge the academic gap among learners. This reading
intervention aims to improve the reading proficiency level of
identified non-readers across all grade levels and provide
intervention that targets the six (6) Domains of Literacy;
oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary,
fluency, and comprehension.
Prior to the implementation of this literacy intervention
program, an orientation meeting was conducted to the
parents, SPTA BOD, and the teachers.
The schedule for the intervention program is from Monday-
Thursday for 40 minutes from 4:00 pm to 4:40 pm. This will
run from January 13, 2025 to April 2, 2025. There are 7

classes for the intervention program and the 78 identified
learners are grouped according to their intervention needs.
Classes 1-3 are for the identified learners with letter print
and sound recognition difficulty and difficulty with
syllabication. Classes 4-6 are the identified learners who can
syllabicate but can’t break into words or slow readers. Class
7 are for the identified learners with poor reading
comprehension. Formative assessment is given every day
with each session, and a summative assessment is to be
conducted after 30 days. Printed materials and visual
presentations through the TV are some of the learning
materials used by the teachers.

On the afternoon of February 24, 2025, due to the inclement


weather conditions and Orange Rainfall Warning from PAG-
ASA, as per Deped Order No. 22, s. 2024, classes and work
from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and ALS were suspended.
